Daughters are performing their 13th encore tour for You Won’t Get What You Want. the album has gone triple diamond and has been the bestselling album in 134 countries for 88 months running. kids all over the globe are flocking to the super bowl to hear the band get it’s biggest gig yet. the whole world watches in awe as the band opens up with their new and improved 30 min version of “city song”. the audience can’t contain themselves. people start swan diving from the seats onto the field. just when they thought the moment couldn’t get any better, a new figure walks on stage, and it’s none other than brockhampton’s biggest member, tony fantano. after performing a guest verse so incredible Tom Brady collapses and dies, canceling the super bowl, fantano pulls out a gun and kills all the members of Daughters. the audience is shocked and disgusted, but intrigued, because this IS fantano. he brought Daughters into this world, and he took them out. they sit in silence anticipating what’s next. he whips out his trusty bass guitar. he loudly proclaims “i am Daughters now” the crowd is ecstatic. he plays the entire album on his bass. the audience is shocked and in awe. as “Guest House” ends, the crowd is worried what happens next. as the song comes to a close, fantano yells out “TRAN”, and the audience beckons back to him. “SITION” and he starts the play the album again. the concert continues for the next 12 days. the NFL is cancelled, the world is in shambles. all that is left is Daughters, and all that is left of Daughters is fantano.

first album is kind of schizophrenic grindy mathcore stuff a la early Dillinger Escape Plan, The Number 12..., Psyopus, Tony Danza Tapdance, etc. Then the lead singer dropped the screaming and they become a weird noise/grind Tom Waits. I don't like their first album but the next two are stellar if you're into this kind of stuff. Haven't checked out the new one besides the first couple of songs; it seems a bit slower and moodier.

I have never heard of this band nor a whisper of anything related to them, but you got me to listen to this whole thing. I just feel musically assaulted. I've never experienced my emotions for music quite this way before and I can't even say if I enjoy it or not. It's like I'm just in pure shock of this creation manifested from the darkest part of the human mind, and I don't mean just Daughters' minds. This is the darkest part of EVERYONE that people are terrified of, manifested in music. It's like a fact of existence expressed so perfectly by Daughters that I don't even know if this does or doesn't appeal to me musically. All I know is that this is definitely deserving of a ten just based off of the artistic ability and vision to pull this thing off. Thanks for challenging how I listen to music melonboi.

These guys were SUPER under the radar during their original run, the only reason I heard of them was because they opened for Dillinger Escape Plan's final shows last year. Like you, I had never quite heard anything like them before, and I quickly fell in love with the little bit of material they had out. Which made it even better when they completely blew their back catalog away with this album, which is easily the best thing they've ever done. I'm so glad Fantano is helping expose them to a lot of new listeners like you!

I had heard the name a couple times, my first experience was when I saw Brock from Invalids wearing one of their t-shirts and I was like "Hey, yknow why don't I check these guys out." Listened to the entirety of Canada Songs which was their only album on Spotify and I left with my at the time not-quite-so-musically-open ears feeling assaulted, wish I knew at the time they had other albums out that just weren't on Spotify. Fast forward a year or two ish and I hear they released a new album (before Anthony reviewed it, saw someone mention it in a another KZbin comment section) and listened to it and I definitely had to agree. I didn't know what to think at first, but as I gave it time I slowly realized how extraordinary it was, by the time Anthony reviewed it and I saw the yellow flannel I was freaking the fuck out in happiness, the 10/10 blew me away. And now this album currently sits on the official top 500 best albums of all time list, just around 470 I believe.

I feel like this album may pose somewhat of an antithesis to Swans' To Be Kind. (at least when it comes to why he scored it with a 10) Whereas Melon gave TBK a perfect score because of its absolute mastery of abstract expressionism and it's extreme intensity in displaying this surreal, apocalyptic, almost animalistic, raw energy, You Won't Get What You Want is the exact opposite, it's not abstract, it's extremely figurative and extremely direct. It holds no bars, it just completely abuses you and makes its themes unmistakably clear. A lot of music tries to capture a very specific emotion, or state of mind, and (i guess) Fantano feels like he hasn't yet heard an album that managed to do just that as brilliantly and as intensely as this one. It's kind of like comparing a Mark Rothko painting to a Francis Bacon painting.
