But for us poor folks who can't spend $100.00 a meal, the regular keto diet works fine. I'm down 2-3 lb a week and reversed my diabetes using store bought stuff.

What about moonlight? As an evolutionary question it makes sense that moonlight might have some mitochondrial effect or therapeutic significance

I see that the negativity spiral has been started. I think we lack some objectivity here. Dave Asprey is for sure a specific guy. He manages to have a family, be an entrepreneur and share with us so much FREE content which (believe it or not), gives hints to enlarge our knowledge. He gets a living out of coffee and books so I think it's ok to get some advertisement from time to time. How many things you have studied at the university that eventually turned out wrong or useless? Well, university wasn't compulsory and you paid a lot of bucks. Dave shares FREE information. Do I believe everything he says? No.But the same concept must be applied in different contexts, just to citate one, religion. Do I think Dave has been an invaluable contributor to the "high fat movement"? Definitely. Don't be too negative when it comes to FREE knowledge, put all pieces of information in a box. Then decide if it is worth opening it. My 2 cents :)

Of course food quality is important but most of us can barely afford to pay our bills and food. We do the best we can. It is very easy to say buy everything organic and at the highest quality wen you are wealthy. 😔

Find it odd that under Asprey Videos people feel like beeing negative...oh wait....its like that nearly under every video on the internet. I think he is a very interesting guy. And there is no need to like everything about him. His approach to beeing a healthy beeing i find interesting. I think i will test this bullettproof coffee at least one. I have good experience with changing my diet towards more good fats, aoviding sugar and bad fats. So i see what he is saying with his mitochondrial approach and his coffee.
@seanmcdonald4156
@seanmcdonald4156 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure I agree with everything Asprey is saying but some of the meta points are spot on. I don't use the bulletproof brand of coffee nor his oil. I use Keto 8 oil which is one of the purest forms of C8 out there which flys through the liver as ketone's none of the other dirty MCT's are included. I imagine his "special" blend is basically that. For most people who are starting keto or not high performance athletes, they are probably going to get great results eating a healthy fat diet. I do agree, pork rinds and crap made with the bad oils you should stay away from even though they are high fat. As I've built my own research over the last 9 months, I've made those changes. As far as sweetners I add nothing anymore to any food unless its included in something I buy and I try to stay with only stevia. Its taken a while but I don't really miss sweets anymore. Probably the hardest thing is finding a pure olive oil based salad dressings, most all called "olive oil" dressings are 50% canola which is bad. I've found 1-2 that are pure but will probably move to just making my own. Good discussion overall I always learn new things from these interviews, like the format and keeping it both scientific but understandable for the non medical person.

I like his points on red light and darkness. I don't feel comfortable with just how much he throws the word "mitochondria " around. They're not "little bastards". Terry Wahls is who I trust on that front given her triumph over MS. I still think Dave provides value so it's important to filter out the self-promotion and ego to get to the nuggets. He probably deserves to have the ego, it can just be distracting. Final point is exogenous ketones. I am seeing conflicting info that taking them while on a normal diet may not be so safe. But YMMV. Thanks for the great work Mike.

Jen Veasey Do your homework on Dave. He came up with a great idea (Bulletproof coffee), BUT he charges exorbitantly for his products that are not much better than anyone else’s, and is very obviously in it for the money. He’s a very wealthy man in the first place, who’s lost sight of 98% of us. He also obviously has fallen off the dietary wagon, so he’s not one to talk.

I have felt like junk for so many years...just conventional medicine has helped a lot of auto-immune symptoms, but has also introduced much more damaging risk factors. So I'm working on doing my homework so that I can get better and move away from the harmful therapies that are keeping me functioning. Food quality (mold in our packaged foods? of course there's mold, what do they care.) - burning fat in a balanced way - understanding protein and what my brain needs - I can learn a lot from this guy. I'm not drinking anybody's kool-aid. But I appreciate the information he's willing to get around and share. It's just more to consider and more to learn.

For 6 months I was on a strict ketogenic diet and was drinking bulletproof coffee multiple times a day. I couldn't understand why I started gaining weight, definitely fat rather than lean mass, but when I took away the bulletproof coffee, even with the MCTs, I stopped gaining weight and slowly began to lose fat. Go figure! I don't think one could argue that butter and MCT oil is comparable to whole food sources of healthy fats. We all know the benefits of MCT oils but essentially they are empty calories that provide a metabolic boost. We can live without the metabolic boost and could use the micronutrients that come with better sources of fats. I'm with regards grass fed butter, what's better; grass fed butter on spring greens, spinach or broccoli, or grass fed butter in coffee that you could learn how to enjoy without added fats?

I have (had) ulcerative colitis. I had minor surgery. The Dr said no dairy. No fat. Eat stewed chicken and veggies. Oatmeal for breakfast. I ate that for ONE YEAR. I stopped bleeding but I put on 10 lbs. in July I started the ketogenic eating. First, I’m 71 and I’m an American but I retired to Panama . So getting keto food in a store is pretty non existent. I just finished my 4 th month and I’ve only lost 26 lbs. my goal is from 275 to 175. I did a protein power diet yrs ago and lost 80 lbs in 8 months. I’m losing 6.5 pounds on this diet. Also, my stools are bloody again. My Dr warned me about fat. I’m disappointed. I think I’m going to higher protein and cut the butter, . I love MCT oil in my coffee. Totally focused after that. My inflammation now is almost nonexistent. My BP is way down. I don’t have much energy though. And I have lost some weight. So that’s good. Do you have any experience with people who have my problem? What are they doing to lose weight.? Thanks...anyone can answer if you know....

People talk about not being able to afford organic and healthy food and I understand because I don't make very much money myself to support my family of 3 kids and my father. But if health is the most important thing for your whole family perhaps look at how much you spend on cable and junk food and cell phone services and any extra things that are out there. If you make your food a must like it should be over almost every other bill you will pay it first and then skimp on the other things. It's just a thought many people on here complaining about it or having negative thoughts we'll probably not agree and that's fine but if it's the most important thing to keep your family healthy there are ways to figure out cutting out bad stuff. Maybe not everything but a good portion of it.

I’ve been roasting my own single origin coffee beans since 2001. At home that’s all I drink and usually just a cup in the morning. Last week I did a bullet proof coffee in the morning and then went to the gym. My energy level was through the roof. I had to stop myself from going further because I was afraid I might get hurt. My recipe is 8 ounces of coffee 1 tablespoon of Kerry Gold butter, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of MCT oil, 3 tablespoons of grass fed non homogenized heavy cream. Cinnamon on fresh ground nutmeg.

I liked Headstrong, and I agree with almost all of the content in the book, but overall it wasn't quite as compelling for me as the Bulletproof Diet was. Dave is getting better in presenting science-based content but it's not fair to expect the same type of content that Mike provides, or Terry Wahls, Rhona Patrick, or anyone else with a deep medical or scientific background. It also seems that he receives a lot of criticism from listeners on the basis of not coming across as being particular humble, but I think that he's adding great content and promoting life changing strategies that benefit people's health. I suspect it's not as easy to interview him as it is for most of your guests, but once again, as always, great work on this Mike. Plus, Bulletproof coffee has to be one of the best ideas ever....

@seanmcdonald4156

Time in "keto"? The first 1-2 months are transition, you can get low ketone levels after 2 weeks but nearly anything can knock you out. Track your macros, in the beginning go for 75%-80% fat, 15%-20% protein really 5% carbs no more. Your carbs should only be from leafy vegetables when starting nothing else. you really have to eat very bland and boring in the first 2 months. If you are not coming out of the keto flu and having trouble transitioning, its probably either you are not hitting those macros and your electrolytes are not in balance. You have to be getting 4000-5000 mg salt daily, most people eat half that and you will need to add alot of salt in to get there. you can buy chicken broth and add salt to it daily to help supplement but also salt the hell out of everything. Also supplement in magesium and potassium, I use a daily powder drink called "emergen-c electro mix" to add those in but these also should come from upping your leafy vegetables daily. Breakfast is the key, planned correctly, you can get the majority of your fat in the morning which sets up success for the day. As an example I get 1300 calories at breakfast of my 2200 total daily and get 130 grams of fat towards my 178 gram goal for the day. Keto is not easy to adapt to, its not a "quick fat loss diet" which I think a lot of people believe. All the weight you lose in the first 2 months is water and glycogen leaving your body. You don't become a fat burning engine until month 3 and then it just gets better. 9 months in, I am fully keto adapted, have never had a cheat meal, and feel healthier than ever before in my life, since November I've been losing ~0.75lbs fat weekly on average, measured by dexascan. Keto really needs to be thought of as a lifestyle that is permanent, not thought of as a diet that someday ends......

Ben Holland yeah I’m glad he wore a short sleeved shirt...otherwise I’d be mistaken and think he was getting fat. He’s a greedy capitalist ...but he’s not completely wrong about what he says about diet...full of shit about mycotoxins to sell his own coffee though....lol

Lots of talk about ketosis, but nobody talks about rash that people get, including me, from ketosis. That seems like selling an flight tickets but not telling people that they might crash :D And no it's not like the rash will go away if one sticks to the diet. I've done many experiments over the years and there just doesn't seem to be any way to solve this issue.

Flisker Try coconut oil infused with ozone. I had a nasty rash on both legs and it went away after using the ozonated coconut oil. The stuff I used is made by PurO3.

Elior Hallo agree. at 19.16 he says he takes test and keeps the levels at 700 mg twice a week ... its mg this is 10 x more than an 18 yo produces. i stopped watching.

agree he's too full of himself, but the HRT (test) is 700ng/dL, for which he may inject .5cc twice a week or 1cc once a week. that would be a range that's ideal for his age, and maybe comparable, but likely less, than an 18yo

at the very right moment he said that Mike should have ended that interview, right away! check out Mike's face when Dave said that he put 30 pounds of muscle in 6 weeks... i bet Mike was thinking... wtf?!!! I like this show as i think that Mike brings some really good content to it, but Dave Asprey? no way... even more, check out Dave body language when he said it, it says it all... anyway, whatever if you want to lose fat and put 30 pounds of muscle in 6 weeks, drink a cup of coffee worth of 500 cal of pure fat!! we are still in time to get shredded for the summer
