Dave Asprey is the "Father of Biohacking" and CEO and founder of Bulletproof 360, Inc. He is a New York Times bestselling author, host of the Bulletproof Radio podcast, and the creator of the global phenomenon Bulletproof Coffee and the Bulletproof Diet. His new book, Fast This Way: Burn Fat, Heal Inflammation, and Eat Like the High-Performing Human You Were Meant to Be, is out now!
What you'll learn from this episode:
Where the idea for Bulletproof Coffee came from, what it entails, and why it makes us feel good.
How to fast sustainably instead of burning out on fad diets and fitness regimens that aren't meant to be followed for the long haul.
Fasting for metabolism and performance vs. (or in conjunction with) fasting for spiritual reflection.
How to turn off the desire for food and avoid other stumbling blocks that threaten to wreck your fasting plans before they even begin.
Why you should ignore the derision of self-righteously suffering purists who insist you're not really fasting if you use Dave's advice to break the rules.
And much more!

I have been fasting and living this lifestyle for over three years... Finally to the point where I intuitively know what my body needs and when, weather it's vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, or if I need to eat some carbs to balance hormones....My parents just started IF and it's amazing to think back to three years ago when I started and how far I have come.....I can over fast if I'm not paying enough attention!!!

Happiest point in this whole thing is NO MORE KALE! I’ve been forcing this stuff down, hate it, ate it because I thought it was good for me, and it was awful. Loved the podcast and just bought the book. Started IF after hearing Dr Fung on KZbin and have been struggling with getting to 16 hours. I’m going to try these hacks. Thank you so very much 💐🎆

Tried it once, cuz you know "health" etc. Thought it might be like cabbage and I could stir fry it in sesame oil. Lolz. Was like trying to chew bark. Noxious bark at that. So I chucked it back in the wok, added water, covered and basically steamed it for 20 minutes. When that made no difference I moved on to boiling the shit out of it, and when it was still woody and gritty and awful, I made my hail Mary butter pass. Usually anything is edible if you add enough butter to it, right? Wrong. Had to chuck it all out, and here's the real kicker: there's a posse of wild badgers who show up at my back door every night after they're done digging up half my garden. They will eat anything, and I do mean anything. They stole one of my gardening boots for crying out loud. Never found it so I guess it was eaten. But the buttered kale? Nope. Was still sitting there untouched the next morning. I tell you, the stuff is uniquely unpalatable. Can't understand why people torture themselves with it.

Dude is a genius no doubt. I must say though, if you’re trying to put on muscle, it’s extremely hard to pile in 3k calories of quality protein, fats, and carbs in an 8-6 hour window. That’s a lot of food. A whole lot!

Hi Max, I just saw this video. About kale, it has only 1.7 mg of oxalate which is very low compared to spinach (460 mg), chia seeds (227 mg), or cacao (379 mg). So, I wouldn't worry about the oxalate. Check where Dave got his numbers.

@azulposeido
@azulposeido 3 жыл бұрын
I think sesame seeds are high in oxalates or maybe another anti nutrient. You don’t need to use tahini. You can make it plain, with olive oil or a substitute for the tahini. I make hummus extremely infrequently because I can’t tolerate it if the chickpeas are not pealed and that takes a while.

Two of the three hacks require eating 100's of calories. (1 serving of his prebiotics is 35 calories, bullet proof coffee can be hundreds depending on how you make it). May be effective but just does not "sit right". Daily fasting: I think the optimal eating window is somewhere between 3 and 6 hours. Completely sustainable 4evah (skip breakfast, and have a late lunch/early dinner) and easy to get daily calories in that amount of time. I can see how true OMAD would not be sustainable or have negative impacts because it's hard to get daily calories in one meal so you go in to a deficit which may have near-term weight loss benefits but is probably not sustainable long term. However most folks doing OMAD are actually doing 1+ hours a day. Long fasts: At least one weekly 48+ hours is sustainable 4evah. Absolutely no issue with this and it's a great weekly "reset". Interesting info on exercise and kale. I'll stop feeling guilty about not eating kale and give the exercise recommendations a try. Thanks! YMMV everyone is different so it's all probably true (for someone) but love all the fasting publicity/discussion.... keep it coming, "liked and subscribed"!

I have done and do all the things he suggests, and that is being led by the HOLY SPIRIT as a BORN AGAIN believer in the LORD Jesus with the evidence of speaking in other Tongues. I grew up in the occult and left it to follow The LORD. Coming from that background, what he said about shamans and spending a nights in that cave where occult practices were conducted in ALARMING. The reason he looked like the "indian guru" when he returned to the US is because those same demons possessed him when he yielded to them. The dark side is VERY intelligent, cunning and patient - something the so called churches do not understand. I don't identify with any religion including christianity. The LORD Jesus is TRUTH and He did not come to establish any religion.

Have butter during your fast to make it easier? Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Fasting means giving your digestive system a break. If you just keep hydrated you should be fine.

Maybe you are not listening. The point is if it allows you to extend your fast then it is good. All the fasting experts acknowledge this...stop being obtuse.

Yeah, not sure I want to listen to Asprey on fasting. He's gone too far on his "bulletproof coffee" and supplements. I do think "snake juice" (salt + pottasium in water) is a good idea for electrolytes, but once you add calories it's no longer a fast.

@@JD-rc6lq No, adding any form of macronutrients (fat, carbs or protein) breaks your fast. Almost all experts besides Dave with his silly Bulletproof Coffee agree with that--even keto ones.

I think your body can't absorb more than x protein in one time so that's why bodybuilders eat throughout the day . David said you can just eat a big lunch and still put on muscle...

Look to why it's dry. Are you taking prescriptions? Is there a deficiency (minerals, electrolytes/salts)? Cough drops mask the symptoms. Good luck 🍀
