Mr Brubeck will be missed, amazing artist, and no doubt a fantastic father. Would have been 92 on the 6th of december 2012. And we are so damn lucky we have it all on tape. Thanks to all who made it possible to revisit and cherish our memories.

His music brought people together ... I remember reading a comment from him after he played a gig where both Reagan and Gorbachev were in the audience. He said he couldn't speak Russian but he understood body language and noticed Gorbachev was tapping his foot to the beat. I suspect this tune will be playing in Heaven now ... rest in peace.

Just learned of the passing of Dave Brubeck. I'll be glad to put 2012 behind me - so much musical talent has been lost this year across so meny genres. Thank you for your service to America and your immense contributions to her Jazz heritage, Mr. Brubeck. You will be missed... David Warren Brubeck, December 6, 1920 - December 5, 2012

On this day in 1962 {June 17th} the Dave Brubeck Quartet, with Paul Desmond on sax, performed "Take Five" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... It was Dave Brubeck's third appearance on the Sullivan show, the first two times were on October 16th of 1955 and then again on the same date in 1960... R.I.P. Mr. Brubeck {1920 - 2012}, Mr. Desmond {1924 - 1977}, and Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}...

Fred Kaplan, in his book “1959,” describes the origin of “Take Five” this way: Walking around Istanbul one morning, Brubeck heard a group of street musicians playing an exotic rhythm, fast and syncopated. It was in 9/8 time-nine eighth notes per measure-a very unusual meter for Western music…. It was a traditional Turkish folk song, widely known-in Turkey.

Grazie.
