Hi Kenny, that's actually a second pressing you have there, not a first, as there's the letters "CBS" in the arrows at the top of the record label. Columbia merged with CBS in 1961 so it a copy from 1961 or later. Great video!

I have recently bought ( inexpensively on Amazon) a DMM cut on a reissue label called Jazz Wax Records (somewhere in Europe)...it sounds fabulous, spacious, highly detailed and not-in-the-least digital, lovely quiet pressing too, I highly recommend this recent reissue if still available at the low price I paid 9 months ago (£15/$20)!

I have the Classic Records version of this. Haven't played it in a while, but I still remember how it sounded as clean and real as if it were a modern recording; too bad Classic Records isn't around any more, as my copy sounded pretty darn realistic. Your last place version would have made me suspicious just because of its nature and packaging. It LOOKS like it should be last, to me. I never heard of K2HD, that's a new one to me. I can believe the AP version sounds best and the original is next among the versions you've presented. Thanks for doing this video. I also just subscribed.

Great video! Although this video is a couple of years old, I wanted to share my thoughts. Interestingly, I have the 'Digitally Remastered Directly From Original Analog Tapes' on CD, not vinyl, and I agree that it's a poor recording. I also own the Sony CD and SACD versions, as well as the Japanese SACD, but I haven't had the chance to try the K2HD or UltraHD CDs. In my opinion, the best way to compare digital versions is to rip both the CD and SACD, then play them back using the same source and DAC. This method provides the most accurate comparison. I won't dive into the topic of streamers here to keep this comment concise, but I assume those interested are knowledgeable enough to carry out this process.

TIME OUT is a great demo album to use if you have to set up a stereo system in a room. Especially when dealing with speaker placement. It's a great album too to audition different DACs and PHONO cartridges. The drum solo being mentioned in this review (TAKE FIVE track) is something to pay attention to. It is only present in the left channel and it echoes all the way to the center of the soundstage where - I believe - it hits an invisible wall and stops. If you can discern this on your system, then congrats you have a great system that is set up properly.

Another reason to not play audio samples is that KZbin audio is mp3 which simply isn't good enough to be able yo show the difference in sources. You tube's crappy audio while supporting 4k video frustrates me.

If I recall correctly, the only say to get a true SACD playe (not a Blu-ray player that plays SACDs) to output digital signals is through I2S and then you need to have a DAC that has I2S with the correct pin out configuration (eg. PSAudio's I2S pin out using HDMI connectors). No such thing as DSD out on an SACD player through Coax or Optical .

The Sony K2 XRCD is very good, much better than most stars red book 16/44.1 pressings. It has a minor background hiss as they included lots of resolution/information without trying to alter or filter the master, providing as much of the true recording as possible. But do not worry of that minor hiss, it is forgotten the second the fabulous music starts playing.

These days even new standard CD`s can sound better than new vinyl. Too much companies, that just smell money. Buying new SACD`s and other special CD reissues can make even good old pressing on vinyl obsolete. But I prefer spinning vinyl than listening a digital disc.

Using sound clips to compare something like SACD and CD on KZbin is completely worthless, because the sound format of a KZbin video is much lower resolution than either file.
