Dave Grohl on his singing voice

The frontman of Foo Fighters regrets that he doesn't have the singing voice of a John Lennon or an Adele, but as Dave Grohl tells Anthony Mason in this web exclusive, he's fine with being able to exude the raw passion of "dissident, noisy, crazy punk rock."

On a live he just screaming, forcing sound. Mercury, lenon on live trash too.

@@maximus1295 screaming is really hard has to be done right.. Especially for a full show, and many nights in a row like he can do.

@@orrinogen it is a common of rehearsal or smthing, but studio it is a fake music from musician if he can't repeat it. I listened enough, they just "working" on a studio, fixing with computer errors and thats how commercial freak industry work! But! How they learned a technique, a vocal training? No doubt, they not worked on this, but if they worked it was not such a good teaching. Overall, studio music can make from anyone a "star". If singer can sing he must show his correct singing, if not tickets must'n seld!

@@jamesvancam no, he is a disaster, like any micro dilettante. He sandwiched his poor voice. Beatles, jaksons, mercuries, bibers, etc..... Its a commercial trash

It's that "raw passion" that makes Dave one of the greatest still doing it. You can see he has no technique (even though he uses some scream and distortion - drive - techniques, but he doesn't have that "vocal-arts-student vibe"), and he misses some notes, but he is a beast. And you also can see, from 90's to now, how much he has developed as lead singer, when he embrassed his voice, and started working on his things, specially his drives, which, for me, is his trademark from 2006 foward. For me, by the time Wasting Light was released, he was fully grown and had stablished who he was (as a singer) and embrassed what his voice sounded like. But it's always nice to see Dave speaking about himself.

Many people have "passion" but still can't sing. Dave has character. A distinct character to his sound and voice that sets himself apart. All that is needed.

vocals are to me more about having a charactaristic voice and create interesting melodies. And yeah it shouldn't be spoiled with constant out of tune singing, but he sings in tune most of the time. And he has just that, if you hear him, you know it is him. No voice like his and he is not trying to sound like someone else like MANY vocalists do these days. Keep sh*t genuine and from the heart

Well i would have some self doubt to if my friends where all huge rock stars and your just a punk rock kid from DC.....I have the same thing to when i play music....everybody is wayyyy better than me....im just waiting for somebody to find out im some punk kid from a small town.....
