Played on the same bill as Slade in 1970 at an allnighter in London at a club called the Temple, my band Hosanna finished our set and it was nice to see Dave Hill had been standing there watching us, didn't see Slade perform as I believe they were due to go on about 4.00am and it was like a sweat shop in the club and then we got into a ruck with the guy on the door about our fee, he tried the old dodge that he would send us on a cheque, we were East end boys and we had met con men before, so we stood our ground and said we weren't leaving until we were paid., We couldn't leave our truck was on empty and nobody had a pound between us.......happy days ? Sometimes.

What made that track was Jim Lea's bass line, inspired. Reading Dave's book at the moment, well written and very interesting.

Dave Hill Taught me a few notes on acoustic guitar back in the 70's in Mum's kitchen. Funny thing is, it was notes to a T rex song !! Lol Good days :)

"People didn't have much money, but they certainly had invention." Yes, that was us growing up in a terrace house in Leeds in the early 70s, getting the bumper 2 week edition of the Radio Times and TV TImes; No phone, no central heating, black and white TV, and Christmas was a very, very big deal.

The sound was messed up, but Dave Hill is an amazing guitarist, and extremely underated guitarist. I've been playing guitar for year's, but I would like to learn more about his unique AWESOME technique.

I found some chords on the internet that I use for my own amusement (starts G, B min, D, D sus etc ) and they sort of sound like the song but they are nothing like what he was playing here. Still 1973 was a long time ago!

What is up with the audio? Garbled to the point of it being totally inaudible.
@PutItAway1017 жыл бұрын
Left and right channels are out of phase and they cancel each other out, you'll notice the effect or not depending on exactly how your speakers are spaced. It should be audible on headphones beacause the two channels don't mix. I can hear it OK on my room speakers but my little UE roll combines the channels and the result is garbage.

I Still Think All Four Members Should Get An Equal Share Of The Royalties...After All Slade Is Slade....Had That Have Happened They'd Have Probably Reformed And All Been Quids In....It Was The Principle Of The Thing With Dave And Don And Not Just The Money...And Who Can Blame Them......Slade Would Not Have Happened Without All Four Members...End Of...I Mean Have You Heard Hill's Playing On Slade Alive............F....k...g Awesome....And Don Powell's Thundering Rhythm ....Come On....It's Not Too Late Y'Know.

It's my favorite guitar EVER this was a custom made guitar for Dave back in the seventies. The neck comes from a Gibson (can't remember what model) with Fender single coil Rythem and Gibson Humbucker Lead, body is solid Maple and heavy as hell All those fantastic Slade songs sprang from this guitar.........well most of them, it's gorgeous. tones1957 (New Zealand) 2:42

I had a rather odd dream about a little elf like person almost a dave gandalf hill dwarf telling me that he played on all of t. Rex hits. But yeah...not a massive slade fan really. Not experimental enough for me. At least sabbath and zeppelin were attempting to find something new, father than Ash in on a tried and trusted t reps formula.

I,m beginning to think Dave hill can't play the guitar has anyone ever actually heard him play I for one haven,t I,ve seen all the pretending he,s playing on top of the pops he was doing a interview a couple of years ago for a music channel he had the guitar on his knee and talked about one of the riffs in one of van Morrison songs he never hit the guitar once so this video just adds to my suspicion
@anoistime22973 жыл бұрын
Based on this and other vids I've seen with Dave Hill recently I'm thinking Slade were an early fake boy band and I've loved their music since the 70's that was very sloppy beginner type playing,
@rongrainger96113 жыл бұрын
@Harold Sweathead Poor Dave didn't even get to write the songs, which is why his version of Slade are still gigging. All Slade's hits were Holder/Lea compositions
