Dave Navarro, Chris Chaney, Taylor Hawkins, and Corey Taylor perform "Man in the Box" by Alice In Chains at MoPOP's Founders Award fundraiser.
The Museum of Pop Culture's one-night-only annual benefit event streamed for FREE on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 with an unforgettable performance from Seattle's own Alice In Chains, plus an acclaimed lineup of tribute artists who put their own spin on some of the band's most iconic songs.
The Founders Award event serves as the nonprofit museum’s principal annual fundraiser for youth development programs, access initiatives, community engagement, and world-class exhibitions.

I would have been more happy if he Slipknot-ified it rather than tried to sound exactly like Layne. You're right Corey is great, but Throw in some screams, something to make it interesting rather than trying to hit exactly the same notes. Nothing more frustrating watching covers from established musicians who have their own style making a carbon copy cover

@colinmurphy3478

@@acidoblivion Yeah it is about Layne. He was the heart of the band; every latter formation and cover simply pales in comparison. This is coming from a guy who likes Jerry's solo work and knows he wrote most of material; however, Layne simply took the band the next level with his raw talent and writing contributions. When Layne sings, I "buy it" and when others try to cover his style, I simply don't buy it. He has an authenticity that is hard to put into words.

This shows why phrasing is so important when singing. Corey can hit the notes. That's not the issue here. The point is Layne had such specific phrasing as a singer WHILE still hitting the notes, basically no one can match with him without doing an impression. Just think to yourself how Layne sang the word YEAH and see what I mean.

I agree with you. Layne has such an unique style, his vibratos were so good, his range and drive too. If you listen to the early AIC demos it's clear that his producers helped Layne to develop his singing style a lot, a great example is the demo of Bleed the freak.

@@henriquehatta8124 u could be right, but I'm more inclined to think LAyne developed it all on his own. saw an interview with the engineer from recording sessions and he said layne would work on his stuff separately from the band and then bring it in to show them. Spent less time in the studio and on his 4 track at home or wherever. Was always doing that from the start, even when living at the rehearsal studio he worked in, b4 they made it. For being a man of such small stature physically speaking, Layne had an incredibly powerful voice. Not only that, but in Mark Lanegan’s book, he talked about how Layne, now matter how hard he had partied the night before, always made it on stage and blew audiences away, night after night. Sometimes he would be up all night partying, walk right out on stage and just blow the audience away with how powerful his voice was. He was without doubt an enormous talent.

Corey Taylor is 47, guys. Layne was still in his 20s when he was doing his last gigs and he hadn't been touring as relentlessly in previous years either. What this really shows is how good a singer Duvall is.

Corey Taylor is doing a fantastic job here. It won’t be AIC, it’ll never have that vibe without Layne and Jerry together, but Corey is leaning on his vocal technique heavily to hit the chorus notes. It’s worth noting that Corey is like 25 years older here than Layne was when he recorded it, and almost all of them have been spent as the lead singer of Slipknot. Great job

@@ellyisonyoutube4017 Hitting the note is not the same as hitting it with proper technique and it sounding good. Corey is a very good singer and performer, but this song is out of his range and it didn't sound good. It is a very tough song to sing though. Layne's way of enunciating and vowel modification makes him sound unique. If you sing this song any other way it just sounds weird.

All these covers are kick ..s. won't ever forget my first and unforchantly my only AIC concert, at the lovely Lallapaloosa in Ogden Utah, at the fairgrounds. About 1992, summer I think. Primus headlining, AIC, second. A shitload of great bands there. Tool was on a second stage- we missed them to see some other. Got so sunburned and the dirt was so out of control they had to throw water at us. My mistake was wearing tevas and no sunscreen. The pit was intense when Primus hit the stage.

love this however the original with all the feeling we get from that chorus can never be outdone. The stud beautiful factor on that stage though, them guys are some heavy hitters and did this song justice. Navarro killed it on that solo. Corey sung his heart out.

Corey's only mistake here is he's going for (feeeeeeeed) on the chorus instead of (faaaaaaaayyyyyd) which gives it more power and oumph, the way that Layne used to do, and the way William is doing it, if you watch other videos of this song by Layne or William, you'll know what i'm talking about .
@lidu2133
@lidu2133 3 жыл бұрын
That's due to his vocal range. Some singers tend to change certain vowels to keep themseleves in the right pitch. Something like Faayeedd will take more efforts than feeed if one doesnt have the right vocal range. But I sure do agree the fact that Faayed sounds a lot better and that Corey did a great job.
