Totaly cool I have been thinking about building an engine from scratch My old man use to buildguns so I have a clausing lathe and a bridgeport mill at my home shop. You do excellent work man kudos to you. 80 lbs-ft of torque is awesome for 7.95 ci. Im on the Texas coast and want a radial engine for an airboat.

I know it's an old post but I have to agree. About 8 years ago, a friend of mine had problems with the lift engine on his hovercraft while cruising the river. He stopped on a gravel bar to work on it and while running and messing with the plug wire, it shocked him and he jerked his hand into the spinning 6 blade fan on the intake side. They saved his fingers but it looked like he stuck his hand in a wood chipper.

Yeah, I have to agree... my neighbors would call the police first, followed immediately by the zoning people. But gawd, how I love that sweet sound! GREAT JOB!

Truly a work of rare skill and craftsmanship! One thing that made me cringe: Obviously, you're fully aware of and avoid the propeller. But say there was a fluke mechanical failure - say a valve spring breaks, a valve drops, and parts go flying. Your involuntary autonomic response would be to pull away. Your conscious awareness of that propeller, no matter how acute, would evaporate for a split second, long enough to lose a hand. You really need to shroud it. Ugly, I know, but shit happens...

Superb,a work of art! Did you carve the propeller as well? I think the engine could power a ultralite hangglider type aircraft, I flew RC planes years ago but wouldn't want to prang a model plane with one of these in it's nose....

I would say there is some god given talent thank you for the comment i do enjoy maching it keeps the brain in shape

I've used 7075 for the cylinder heads,master rod and slave rods its plenty hard holds threads real well and machines nice,and easy to find scrap at metal yards.most every thing else is 2024.thank you for the comment

thank you for the comments,at the time this video was made this was the first run-in, at the time you mentioned I was tweeking the main jet,the engine was running on colmuns lantern fuel.I found out ,the lower the octane,the easyer it is to burn.

So I just saw the video today, very nice I have to ask, what happened to that beauty? I agree with another guy who posted that your neighbourg must hate hearing this thing! did you change the mixture at or around 3:30min? the engine sounded much better. I love that it runs on straight avionic fuel. too big for my application but wow, congratulations! A year later!! LOL
@biglift436510 жыл бұрын
dear unca Dave , did you finish my engine yet ? Mom told me you would have it ready before christmas. i dont mind much if its a little later . let me know when i can and come pick it up :) *grin*

the cubic inches is about 7.95.I suppose you could upscale it,it would be a major job though.

Have you ever seriously considered (I mean "seriously considered") the MFG/production of this engine or slightly smaller radial engine for the world wide RC groups? I am sure you know, the only MFG'ers of small RC radial power plants are outside the USA. Certainly, it takes funding plus marketing/sales understanding that the establishment of a notable lower purchase price per unit would give a quality USA made produced a stable controlling niche in this growing RC radial engine market.

Would make a huge model aeroplane...maybe power output too great for true scale .....eg "Steerman " where the engine would not be to scale.

@Law1915712 жыл бұрын
How much hp does it produce?
@mrcatdoc12 жыл бұрын
I dont know the horse power but the torque I estimate at about 80 lbs-ft

know this thing is really small, but you suppose one could get 400+ hp & torque out of a radial motor that size?

im asking 10,000.00 but ill take less make me a good offer

I would shut my dog away first
@ryanjames17012 жыл бұрын
the engine in the video could never make anything close to 100 HP let alone 400+HP to make 400HP or more u would need an engine of 250cid atlest but relisticly in a slow turning radial you would need someting like 700+ cid
