@@harrodsongsHuhhhh? I watched his show, live, back in the day. Take my word for it - that's really her. She was on numerous times, usually broadcast from her own kitchen. His crew would go to her home & set up their cameras, sound & lighting. Sure it's easier today to set up for a remote broadcast but Letterman's crew could manage. They did it all the time. The so called head made of stuffing with the goofy teeth was likely made in their prop dept. His mom didn't make it, obviously. It was likely made of Papier Mache. I don't know what you see as beyond the limited technology of the day.

The holidays are no good without pie guessing, The Lone Ranger story and of course Darlene love.

Laughed so hard with my dad every year hearing that Lone ranger story. And Darlene Love's performances were always memorable. Also loved the tradition of knocking the meatball off of the top of the tree.

According to Robert Morton, Dave had a very strained relationship with his mom, and would joke that he wouldn't have to call her because of her being in segments like this. Interesting that two of the greatest late night entertainers, Carson/Letterman, supposedly had difficult relationships with their mothers, not to mention them both hailing from the midwest.

@kstepko Жыл бұрын
He was not. Dave’s father died in 1973, approximately a decade before Dave became the host of Late Night (in 1982) or Dorothy’s first appearance on Dave’s show (in 1986). She remarried in 1983; her second husband died in 2013.
