Hell, I'm 63 yrs. old and have been a huge Savoy Brown fan since the mid 60's. Dropped into a bar on Battery Street in San Francisco in the late 70's and to my surprise, there was the band performing. They shredded that night!

@@smwrbd He played Detroit pretty much every year right up to his death either billed as Kim Simmonds or Savoy Brown. You could usually catch him at The Magic Bag on Woodward in Ferndale. Saw him my self 100's of times from the 70's to just before Covid.

I always wanted to see Savor Brown back in the seventies, but never did. They played at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano in 2019 and I went and saw them. I'm glad I did, the show was good. I bought a Savoy Brown T-Shirt and always get lots of compliments when I wear it. I didn't know that Kim passed. Sorry to hear that. Rest in Peace!

It's a DAMNED SHAME there isn't more live video of the original line-up. Video tape was in it's infancy, cassettes being introduced in 1971. Chris Youlden has such a strong influence.

I discovered Savoy Brown in the late 60s and was probably the only one in my group of music aficionados who appreciated their chops. The group was probably the first "extended" track artists (along with the Dead). Kim, thanks for the hours of musical enjoyment!

I was lucky enough to see them in Seattle, at the Paramont. They were headlining, with Fleetwood Mac, and Long John Baldry. It was a great show, and I think it was even broadcast live locally by one of the Seattle radio stations. Great night, and great memory’s. I didn’t realize how lucky I was to have all the great music around. Still have all my albums!

I was turned on to SB by my Mom in 1969, at age 10. 4 years ago I saw SB live for the first time in a small tavern in Annapolis,MD. Since then Ive seen them at the blues fest in Hagerstown,MD. and again at the Rams Head tavern in Annapolis,MD. Kim Simmonds is an incredible guitar player, and a very friendly guy. After his shows he gives autographs, photos, and takes time to talk to fans.

Saw these guys at the Hollywood Palladium October 1972 along with Uriah Heep and Hemlock. I think it was my first live concert. I can still remember standing on the floor absolutely blown away by all three bands that night. This album had just been release earlier that year. I can remember it like it I was standing there right now. Great memories.

I saw them at the Fillmore East in early '71 and I saw them again on Saturday at the Throckmorton Theater in Mill Valley. It's a different band every time, but always KILLER!!! See these guys! Your ears and soul will thank you. And Kim is a very nice guy.

That night in 1968 was magic.The old Marquee Club,Wardour Street,London's West End.Savoy Rown and a little band that came on first,went by the name of Jethro Tull.Utterly brilliant,two sets apiece trying to outdo each other,one of the best nights ever. :-)

So you saw them with Mick Abrahams??? That evening must have been magic. Their first album on Island must have just been released. (wouldn't come out here in the States on A&M until sometime early in 1969.) shortly afterwards Mick quit & formed Blodwyn Pig. They had a dedicated following here in the States too. He still plays/ tours, health isn't the greatest fromm what I understand. A second CD reissue of the first album "Ahead Rings Out" has been available for a few years that includes all tracks from US & UK editions plus singles. It's a must have!! Thanks for sharing your memories!

I'm 60 and i often say that i don't need the trash they call "music" these days, because i keep discovering "new" music from the old days, bands and songs that i didn't know, and many i knew but never listened to. And here i am again, i can't believe i had never heard of this band -not even the name. Music from the 60's and 70's will live on, long after the trash of present day is totally forgotten. Of course there are some great bands and musicians these days, but what gets promoted by "the system" is just mucus.

Got to see them at the Fillmore East in late 1968 early 69-they were supposed to play the week before but got held up coming into the US-they were the opening act for a show that was supposed to have Jeff Beck as headliner-but the Beck Band broke up that morning(got back together a week or so later)-so Savoy Brown ended up opening for Johnny Winter (his first show up north) and Chuck Berry in his first coming out of retirement show, to say the least it was a stunning show especially for a 17 year old kid. About a month later saw Savoy Brown again at a hockey arena on Long island- this time they opened for the Jeff Beck Band (with Rod Stewart on vocals and Nikki Hopkins on piano) and Mountain was the middle act in their debut show, Total price for these two shows around $10.Since we did not drive yet so my Dad had to drop off and pick me and a buddy up after the show- the Fillmore East show we could catch a train into the city. Different times for sure.

Jesus f*ckin' God. I am 57 and that sh*t brought tears to my eyes. At about 7:30 that guy starts one of the finest guitar solos I've ever heard. I do spray work on a golf course and was out there today spot-spraying crabgrass with a backpack around green surrounds and listened to the studio/vinyl version while I was working (yes, I have a dream job...on a very fine course indeed...) of this which always, always gets to me but this is something else entirely.
