I always find the bachmann screws the most difficult things to remove , especially when some are screwed in too far by the factory. Great informative how to video! Cheers Matt

Nice job yet again Dave! British diesels are by no means my favourite but the Class 37 does have a certain "baby Deltic" or American fifties sort of charm which Bachmann seem to have captured quite well. Joachim

Have the exact same engine, i used a ESU v.40 sound with dual sugar cube speakers and i also changed out the horrible lights to fibre optic tubing with leds. And while i had the loco upside down i got rid of the toy like couplers and changed them to kadee's.

Great video - do you run the loco in in DC mode before fitting the DCC decoder ?

I hate the rat's nest of wires in the void where a speaker can be placed. It is also easy to get some of the wires trapped in the side of the body and frame. I found the screws around the bogie were difficult to get to and replace. Final whinge, I fret about the flexing of that PCB when removing/adding the chip - there isn't much space above it either. I sometimes think there is a "well that will do" attitude with the manufacturers, they will fret over the outer detail and scrimp on the inner nuts and bolt.

Another great video Dave. I found fitting a decoder to my railfreight petroleum sector 37 much much easier than a 47. I use lenz and lokpilot dcc decoders, I did see a video from Everard Junction where Richard had a problem with a newer Bachmann 21 pin DCC decoder, mainly with the smoothness and also when hitting the kill power command on the DCC controller the loco would continue to move, slowing down based on the inertia setting. Have you found any similar problems or are these now fixed?

no, I have not had any problems with their 21 pin decoders at all. Some of their 8 pin ones have misbehaved in the past though!

Hi Dave Is the decoder you fitted produced by zimo? I recently fitted Bachmanns new 6 pin in a shunter and the packaging states it was manufactured by zimo, just wondered if this 21 pin version is the same. I thought the detailing packs with the 37 were pretty rubbish too, shoukd be better for what the loco costs. Cheers Paul
