Pastel Portrait Tutorial: How to draw the Outline using a quarter grid. Sharing my techniques and tips on how I also Scale up a reference image, create the background, then explain the quarter grid method.

Hi I just found your Chanel you videos are great and work exquisite. Thankyou for sharing so much with us, apologies if it's been mentioned in the video and I've missed it but I just wondered why you choose grey for your outlines ? And if there is a technique to choose which colour to use of if you just always go for that one. I hope this makes sense thankyou so much. Hi Claudia, thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I understand what you are saying, I used to use multiple colours for the outline years ago, I have found that the carbothello 708 grey pastel pencil is magic, as grey is a neutral colour I can add colour on the top of it and the grey will melt into the colour without becoming muddy. It is easy to erase too. If you check out the beginners guide video in my channel, I go into more detail on there. Also I have several outline videos on my channel too. All the very best... Dave 😊🙏🙏

@@DavePortersArt brilliant thankyou so much I'm in the middle of my first pastel portrait that happens to be a wedding portrait, I've used the mouvey type colour for the outline as I'd not found you when I first started my portrait, it seems to of worked well so far but will definitely give the grey a go. Thanks for your response x
