It's amazing that despite every stand being rebuilt, aside from the obvious gaps in The Kop, Anfield still looks, feels and sounds the same today. I'm so glad the club has never left and hopefully never ever will. I can't say the same for Old Trafford, that place has lost its soul.

This was a fascinating watch in terms of how Ferguson was developing his team, that would dominate most of the 90 s...He was a long way off at this point, but the Pallister / Bruce combination was definitely taking shape...Hindsight is a wonderful thing :D Thanks for upload :)

I remember watching this game and it was a tough game. But next season we smashed them 4:0

How could we have let Beardsley go?? Every time I saw him in a Newcastle or Liverpool shirt I always thought what might have been.

He was one of the most skillful English footballers of the last 50 years. If we could have held on to him and Platt....

Kenny was trying to "manage" at that point in the sense of tinkering with personnel and formations instead of just picking the best available eleven and playing 4-4-2 which had worked successfully for decades. They still had the best squad in the country.

Kenny played Molby as sweeper in his first season in charge, so the "tinkering" as you see it wasn't something that developed - it was always there. Maybe you're right that he would have been better just playing the strongest line-up and letting opposition worry about it, but he did pretty well.

Late eighties good times, I felt like we were at last coming out of the dark ages of football following Heysel.

We should have won this, but our technique was still not up to scratch. We couldn't slice through teams as cleanly as you could.

You completely outplayed us in the OT return. Impressive turnout from your fans that day, too.

Great to see real conversation between united and liverpool fans as opposed to vile insults. Two great clubs with fantastic historys.

Im a pre 92 manchester united fan, first trip to old trafford was in 1983. Was always very impressed and a tiny bit jealous of liverpools success as a kid. 1985 semi final replay was the biggest thrill against them but much prefer engaging in historic nostalgia then hateful vitriol.

I cannot see why Dalglish played Molby on the left (definitely out of place) Whelan could have played there (he used to play on the left before the arrival of Barnes). Whelan left, McMahon and Molby in the centre would have been 3/4 of the 86 double winning midfield.

distantvoices I remember seeing him in one of his first games for Liverpool at Arsenal and I was surprised how mobile he was for a big guy. His screamer for you against us in the league cup at anfield in 85 will always stand out.
