It was an ancient Dryad countermarch which my husband and I completely renovated for my first floor loom, and then I was devastated when I couldn’t use it. I’m sure you’re right. My David 3 should be here shortly and at present I’m worrying whether I shouldn’t have bought it! Actually, I can’t wait for it to arrive. Thank you very much for your advice and support. I wouldn’t be weaving at all if it weren’t for you and your courses, from my first rhl onwards.

Kelly Casanova ,your new Louet loom is beautiful. I think your explanation was excellent, and very well articulated , with a larger loom yes it's harder to though the boat shuttle and catch it , but as you stated a floor loom is better, but getting time is hard when family and work are pressing , and chronic back pain, all call by. S i'm impressed with your loom , it looks like a counter march loom ,smooth easy action ,can never beat it.... Go and weave it's a very satisfying past time and all weavers find pride in their looms and projects... Keep the videos coming... Andrew from Melbourne....

Good review. I own a Spring loom 110 cm which is not hard to weave though warping more challenging. I may have to consider this cute narrow loom. Re, break. Louet and Jane Safford came out with videos which really helped me. Learned so much about my Spring loom break and everything. There is one for the David as well.

I too love Kelly's videos. Not to compete with her in any way, for those who might like a longer, more in-depth video about another Louet loom, the Spring Louet Loom, here is a link to one that goes through the features of the Spring many of which are similar to the David (here). kzbin.info/www/bejne/e56YpIavnJWqoZY Jane Stafford is Canadian (small world with KZbin). I would love, love, love, to participate in some kind of seminar with Kelly and Jane in the same room. Perhaps if a few people like Kelly and Jane could go make weaving a more popular thing in the Middle East, world peace could move about ten miles closer to reality.

I have the same loom, 70 cm, and I like it as well. I agree about the friction brake, I like it but I wish Louet published more info on setting it up and adjusting it. I do wish the raddle was deeper but like you I would highly recommend this loom.
@KellyCasanova7 жыл бұрын
Nancy, how do you like the 70cm width?
@nancymcmullen51677 жыл бұрын
I also have a 40" Macomber so I have the width when I need it. I am happy with the smaller width on my David as I knew it would not be an only loom. Having said that, if I had to go down to one loom it would be the Louet. Macomber looms are made within an hour of me so used ones at good prices usually show up regularly. I do also really like the Macomber but I like the quietness of the Louet.

This is great, Kelly. Thankyou very much. I would like to ask if you have used a David 3 please? I have one on order but have found a listing for a David 2 which looks smaller with a lower breast beam than the 3 although the same width. I am very small and am concerned that I might have trouble with the 3 as I did with the previous floor loom I bought. If I could throw the shuttle, I couldn't reach the treadles! I can't visit to try either before I buy. Any advice you can give me will be very greatly appreciated. Dee
@KellyCasanova2 ай бұрын
Hi Dee, I don't think I can help you too much with this question as I haven't used a David 3. What is the width of loom you have on order? I am about 5' 3", shorter than average but not very short. I've had no problems with the David 2 with my height (it's a 90cm width).
@Jill4Today3 жыл бұрын
Kelly, great channel! I'm planning on purchasing the David 2 like you have and have a question for you: Is the friction brake standard on this loom? In all the photos I've seen, it doesn't appear to be on the loom. And I definitely want it. Help?? Thanks from Oregon.
@KellyCasanova3 жыл бұрын
Yes, with the new DAVID 2 version, the friction brake is standard. On the former David release, it wasn't, so be sure to check and know which one you are getting when you order 😉

Thank you for the great review. Your warps are always so beautiful and I've been very interested in the loom you got. Mine is a LeClerc Nilus and was given to me. The David is a beautiful loom. The compact size is amazing and it's really clever how you can get up close to warp! I am not sure I like the sliding beater though. Thanks for sharing your loom Kelly.
@bobbinmad2 ай бұрын
Thank you, Kelly. Mine is going to be 70cms as I don’t have a lot of space available. It’s not the width I’m worried about but the height of the breast beam as I’m 5ft 1” tall and concerned that if I sit high enough to be able to throw the shuttle without hunching my shoulders, my legs won’t be long enough to reach the treadles as that has happened in the past. There’s only 1/2” difference in height of breast beam between the 2 and 3 so I’m just hoping I will. Otherwise I’ll have to buy some platform shoes. (Just joking!)
@KellyCasanova2 ай бұрын
OK, interesting. But what was the loom that you had trouble with in the past? Because for me, sitting at my David compared to sitting at my much larger old countermarch loom is so vastly different. The David is so compact that it's easy for me to get very comfortable using a height adjustable piano stool. I can't say exactly without knowing your leg length measurements, torso height etc (and they would be weird details to ask someone for! 😆) but it sounds to me like the David will be a good fit for you. Are you on Facebook at all? There are plenty of David weavers in the floor loom/8 shaft groups who could share their experience with you. If you're not on FB I'm more than happy to ask in one of the groups for info from weavers of a similar height?

Thank you for the review it was great I also have the same loom I love it. But I'm not a big fan of the rattle because I just don't understand the metric system. Currently trying to put a 9-in warp on and the rattle math just boggles my mind. Can you tell me how you would figure out the math for the rattle?
@KellyCasanova Жыл бұрын
Yes, the simple way is to measure 1 inch on the raddle and count the number of spaces. Then, using the sett (epi) for your weaving project, you can figure out how many threads you need to place in each space, based on your number of threads per inch 😊

Hi Kelly, thank you for the informative video. Can you please advise as to whether one can do tapestry weaving on this particular floor loom or any other floor loom that you have used.
@KellyCasanova5 жыл бұрын
Technically you can, as you can get a good, tight tension. You would need to use a tapestry beater to pack the weft down. I don't use it for tapestry - I have a tapestry loom for that.

I am curious what your thoughts are on replacing metal heddles with texsolv. I bought a vintage 4 shaft table loom with metal heddles and was thinking if it would work just as well if I replaced the metal heddles with texsolv. I also got a large floor loom with metal heddles. That one won't bother me if it's noisy since I'll have to use it in the garage, but someday it may end up in the house.
@KellyCasanova3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's definitely an option. Many weavers with metal heddles will make the swap for quieter and lighter treadling 😊

Thank you for this excellent review. i have one question, does the spring system on the David give it an even warp, i.e. Are the lower warp threads at the same tension as the upper ones when treadling and if not is this noticable on the finished article?

Irene, the tension is excellent, providing you get it right whilst warping.

I just watched another David review and the man in the video said if you rub a little soap on the gliding rods it will move very smooth. Is the back beam removable? I thread heddles from the back instead of the front.
@KellyCasanova7 жыл бұрын
I have heard of others "greasing" the rods for smoother gliding, I have felt a bit afraid to do it myself in case of a weird greasy build up. I'll keep it in mind though. No, back beam is not removable.

Kelly, I have been watching all your lovely videos, and I feel inspired to buy the Louet David. I have been thinking about the David for a very long time, but just resisting because I am not sure how well I would do with a floor loom (more about coordination really). However this week I think I have to make a decision as I will been waffling about this long enough. Do you still love the David a few years on since you bought it? I contacted Louet today and there is one David left for sale before the next shipment :).
