I haven’t heard this song in 20+ years! Haven’t seen her since ‘97 in college Texas Tech. My first love. We both moved on to others. I’m sure she’s doing well as I. BUT every once in a while as I’m driving on a highway and out of nowhere that old feeling hits me. Last verse still gets me: “It can happen in the dead of the night or any day of the week…I still have that dream about you!” She’s probably forgotten me but I haven’t forgotten her. KP thank you for that time in my life, great memory!

You are free now, and I won't try to outrun the thought of you now , like I have for so many years. You love me and my kids and grandbabies so well and so much. Thank you. I am so sorry I didn't get to tell you one last time this side of Heaven. I know you are up there, doling out those big and beautiful bear hugs to everyone who has gone before us. And thank you for loving Jesus, for giving us that comfort. So that when the thought of you catches up with us, we know we have eternity to catch our breaths...ride those hills..gather those cows and love on em...I can just see you and Buttercup!!!

It’s 2:00am and I’m listening to this for the first time in many years. Like you, my Ex wife and I were like fire and gasoline. We were married in 1990. Within three years we were separated. It was a tumultuous and rocky relationship. We still saw each other and dated during our separation. One time She had been out of town on business and called me to join her at the motel she was staying at. I drove down there and we spent the night together. While we were together, this song played on the radio. I wished that we could stay just the way we were in that moment. I spent a lot of years hoping for what might have been or could have been. After three and a half years of separation, we got back together. It did not last and we ended up divorced after ten years together. I am in my sixties now and have a good life but every so often my mind will go back to that special place and time and I feel that old familiar pain..

David Ball, I don't know if you read these comments but sir, this song is still in 2023 one of THE most beautiful songs ever written and recorded. My mama was born in Spartanburg and I was born in Simpsonville and raised in Piedmont and Easley. Thank you for representing so well. We're proud of you David and we love ya. God bless.
