My absolute favourite song of all time❤️One of the most emotional and interesting songs of any artist out there. I feel so connected to it and each time I hear it, it makes me happier. Thank you dear David for this beautiful masterpiece, I will love this forever. Love you❤️⚡

What is great about this is it is at a time where he is just coming into his own... at this point he had Mick Ronson and Tony Visconti and his band just getting ready to record his third album The Man Who Sold the World which was truly his first rock album. At this time he still might have had John cambrige on the drums before he switched to woody . At this certain point he had out his first two albums that pretty much flopped in the UK besides this one song and no one knew who he was in the United States at this point... little did he know that three years later he would be the biggest thing in rock and roll on the Ziggy Stardust tour .. he did a great job on this performance considering the orchestra he was playing with was playing his song a little fast.. I thought his vocal's were awesome

what an amazing singer...listen to how he sings the refrain at 1:40...so completely loose...it's like traditional, almost old-fashioned singing, but he's so comfortable improvising and changing the melody--wow.

What a professional. That orchestra was clearly playing it wrong on purpose. Wrong notes wrong speed, you can't accidentally screw up an entire song. He makes it clear with his face but never stops putting on a good performance.

Who are you to say it was on purpose? Like this version along with any version. Get off your high horse
@tillyfromthecrypt75712 жыл бұрын
I think you're totally right @Faded Gabe even the electric guitar was off. I feel like the orchestra transcribed it while listening to the song only once, and clearly didn't understand what it was. Maybe they paid no attention to the lyrics? Maybe they didn't like it so transcribed it the way they would if THEY'D written it? Also, perhaps they sped it up to get it over with. The backup CLEARLY had a different vision or a MAJOR disconnect, but Bowie did an amazing job! Especially with the sabotage or some over-inflated ego trying to rewrite his song! 🕸️🦇🖤🦇🕸️

@@tillyfromthecrypt7571 I think it was more about trying to make him look bad cuz they didn't like his weirdness or androgeny. Either way, he handled it like a pro before he was even crazy famous. Amazingly professional.

Still capable of a great power, modern after 38 years, this masterpiece of the dreamlike genius of Bowie is pure legend: one of his most beautiful metaphors on loneliness, on loss of control and on the escaping from this reality. A really beautiful song that always will travel among the Stars, with our imaginary. THANK you for the highest quality, that makes me dive better, for a moment, into my "etheric Space"... and for this sharing, also ennobling YT.

No kidding. He's especially pissed off at the end of the song. It's not just the shit guitarist... the drummer got the breaks wrong the first time and then completely sat them out the second time. After that you can clearly see Bowie was incensed.

So all this tells us that the pick-up bands on shows like this were a bit hit and miss eh? There surely must’ve been more competent (or less pissed) jobbing guitarists and drummers available!

I remember watching TV in the early 70s sometime and right after the evening film they went right into a Bowie video. It must have been NBC but it was mind blowing to the max. I don't remember the song I just remember thinking WHOA! Anybody recall that.

Ladies and gentlemen, is not the music we should be criticizing. Even if they did or didn't do it on purpose to spit on the young star David Bowie. The lyrics speak for themselves. Something our modern society has no taste or acknowledgement anymore.

David is great as always but The Les Reed Orchestra is terrible. Check out David's face at 49 seconds and again at 2:06 minutes. They are out of tune as well hardly in time. David takes it in stride though.

Man, it sure sounds like the house band screwed this up. The tempo was all messed up, you can tell David was trying to just keep pace despite their awful playing. They should have just had a giant hi-fi behind him playing the mix without his vocals and guitar with a single mic stand pointed at the speakers lol
