I always thought of him as a sort of hipster who is a bit too old to be a hipster. Especially in the recent decade or so in which he started sporting a neckbeard and wearing flannel and plaid shirts so often, though here he's wearing some indiscernible shirt thanks to the mic, it's probably ironic. Also, his material is so often sarcastic and ironic, along with the nature of his overall demeanor/attitude, and he exudes a certain degree of pretentiousness and elitism. I doubt I'm the first to think of the word "hipster" when stereotyping him. IIRC, he himself admitted that he has a hipster-ish vibe that either he himself recognized, or ceded that others have recognized. In the end, it's all just labels man.

Actually about that edible arraignment bit. When my mother died my colleagues sent me one. I was sleeping in the palliative care center every night and the food there was terrible so I didn't eat much. When I got home the day after she died, it was the BEST thing they could have sent me, because I had practically no food in 3 days.

Its soooo fucking difficult to overcome so I really respect and admire comics who can handle bombing and take it in stride, but I absolutely LOVE those few comics who somehow actually thrive/enjoy/revel in it. IMO there is no one better or more fearless than Norm MacDonald at successfully bombing. He loves it so he never tries to correct/avoid it, so he just steers right into it instead. He is the KING of using uncomfortable, awkward, high anxiety situations/atmospheres/crowds to craft something HILARIOUS. The best thing about his style of comedy is the total unpredictability. Sometimes you aren't even sure what part of the joke you're in so you really have to stay on your toes. Dude is a genius.

Maybe watch his "Making America Great Again!"special, or watch his recent live tours. He doesn't hit too hard against Trump, but there's a bit of that there. Though I wouldn't call any of that material "stupid".

Dionysus I’ve watched or listened to pretty much everything he’s ever done. I’m a huge fan, but there’s something with all these left leaning comedians, him included that do the same trump slights during interviews. I find all politics repulsive, that’s why I dislike when they do it.
@mikeisapro6 жыл бұрын
I'm with you on that, I hate it when comedians use political talking points in their act, especially if it's not funny. Dennis Miller comes to mind. But I've seen little partisan politics from David. He touches on things and makes fun of everything, but he doesn't seem to me to be for one party or the other, except on specific issues like gun control, and even then, he doesn't really use his stage performances as some platform for right or left-wing talking points, a la Miller, but rather is just being a comedian and making jokes tangentially related to his views, and it makes me laugh and I take it with a grain of salt. I agree totally that partisan politics is awful, and I don't want to see it in comedy, unless the context is light and the material is funny, and even then, it shouldn't make up a majority of the show. But any person simply expressing distaste for any president during interviews isn't offensive to me at all. I didn't give a fuck when Louis said he liked Hillary in an interview, as he's a great comedian that made me laugh a lot and was never partisan in his act. Cross is also a great comedian, and while he obviously doesn't like Trump, he doesn't make much ado about it, in my opinion. But if David offends anyone because of his personal beliefs related in interviews or made in jest during his act, then they're free to not listen to or watch his material or his interviews.
