This was my wedding song in 2003. My spouse passed away in 2006 and when I hear this song I picture his handsome face and smile. It brings me back and is painful but yet comforting. He had a rare cancer and passed at 32 years young. Today would have been my husbands 48th birthday and I thought I would listen to this song with our 16 year old son.

My mom died in 2014 and her ashes are in a box next to my stepdad’s on my boat. I’m honestly thinking about sprinkling them into the Chesapeake everywhere we travel in our boat. They absolutely LOVED being on the water and would be so proud of me and our boat. I miss them both so much too!

Well intentioned but a dopey comment nonetheless. Notoriously difficult to get on the ladder as an artist and yet VERY easy to get the shaft by the companies and slippery b'stards. Great music doesn't come into the equation so much.

Rest I'm peace to my mother who passed in 2018 when I was only 12. This was a song we sang together many times... I'm now turning 17 in November and I've crawled out of a serious hell of coping with the loss. I was forced moved to a new school with much better peers and I've changed and matured a lot. I wish she was here to see where I am now. I miss you mom

Reading all these comments from people sharing their experiences and personal relationship with this song. Life is just about our experiences. This is me reminding myself to be happy and not care about things that don't matter. Love yourself as you are because there is only one you in this world. Could this guy be one of the most underestimated artist of our era? No gimmicks, no platform shoes, no ziggy make up on his face, not to decry those who done that. They were very good. But this guy's just bread & butter, very good bread & butter. I feel like I could go out for a pint with him anytime, he has no hint of star ego. + I like freshly baked bread & butter, with maybe some strawberry jam, who doesn't?

I only heard this song for the first time ever a few days ago, I went into town to run some errands. As I was eating a sandwich and drinking coffee I sat down on a bench and this busker started playing the guitar and singing this song, out of nowhere I started crying like mad😭🙈 the lyrics and the song in general moved me to the core and brought up feelings of deep sadness, loss, regret and helplessness I stored away in my mind for a long long time! I’m a mess every time I listen to this song! It’s been ages since a song moved me so much and touched my soul! Thank you David Gray for this masterpiece 🙏🏻🙌🏻

Beautiful; reminds me of Dad. When I was at my older sister's wedding this June and she did her father daughter dance with my dad, to a country song she chose, I thought to myself what would I choose? And I decided most likely David Grays Babylon because that song sticks out from my childhood with my father, but this is an amazing choice too. I just remember growing up listening to this man's unique voice and the way it made me feel so light and free. I also contemplated maybe Tracy Chapman's Fast Car.... I went to my first concert at Wolf Trap with my dad, we saw Tracy Chapman. We snuck in McDonald's cheeseburgers in our back pack. Ah, what a lovely time. I was about 10 or 11 years old. Thanks dad.

This is such a beautiful song. Listening to it takes me to bittersweet memories of both of my mom and dad who are no longer with me. I miss them both so much. Not a day goes by that I don't cry for them. They say that the pain goes away but it's a lie. It never does. My dad died early this year and I was not ready to let him go. God knows how hard I fight to keep him alive but in the end God had a better plan for him. It just hurts me soo much that I can't see him anymore. Tell him that I love him and give him daily hugs. My heart is so broken.

I'm 16 and I appreciate this music so much. I have heard it through my Dad and find it incredible. All my friends go off and listen to their modern music that I don't really like, however each to their own. This music is absolutely phenomenal and I love to listen to the older bands also like Pink Floyd. The closest modern artist have come to this greatness is through Ben Howard and Bon Iver. I recommend you to listen to a few of their songs each.

I rarely post; as I do not use a moniker. My youtube profile is my name. One September I lost my job, I had to end a relationship of four years and my very old cat was consumed by coyotes. It was a life learning curve. I took an escape journey and ended up at Quadra Island. Riding down a tight road with wildlife - a bald eagle flew so close to me I could hear the wind of its wings - and making my path towards Kwagiulth Museum and Cultural Center, I settled by the waves. I had my little iPod. And I had my bike. And I had many tears. The repeat on my music was David Gray. It could have been anything else, but that particular music brought me solace. And most importantly, acceptance. Every expression of anything written could be a personal metaphor for those who read or listen to it. David Gray's music happened to work me through grief. It is only recently I have started listening to his voice and words again. And I will forever be grateful. And I will always remember the waves on the rocks at that special place.
