I feel like though the institution cost a decent amount of money, they have to cover costs and such. Just the fact that Mr. Lynch is trying to expand the influence of meditation though the world is a beautiful thing.

@retread01 The technique can be practiced without believing anything spooky or pseudoscientific (as can vipassana, as can the practice of stilling the mind in general), but it seems that some of the representatives of transcendental meditation feel they can make claims about objective reality based upon their subjective spiritual experiences. Meditation helps me feel amazing and helps me in interpersonal relationships, transcendent experiences, bla bla bla, but some feel they can go from this to

hello ushilives im doing zen, zazen, im still beginner, and my zen master said that you dont need some special kind of method, mantra etc. to experience the deeper levels of consciosness. so i dont understand why is he only talking about transcendental meditation? not to mention the mahariushi university costs 108.000 dollars. they seem to have good intensions, but still i can smell money behind it.

@retread01 TM is an action that can be taken without involvment in any group whatsoever. It is an individual action chosen by the person. You don't need to join anything. At that, if people were to join it, it would be a cult, not a religion. However, people hiring a meditation guide is normal. Meditation has proven to work for people. And people getting more into meditation is normal as well. People buying books on TM is just an extension of that. Have you tried it?

@retread01 (continued) making claims about quantum physics and things of the like. It is very much like a religion in the sense that they have found an area of science which is currently difficult to understand, and they've inserted their metaphysical claims into that space. In any case, if TM works for people and makes them happier and such, I don't mind. It's an esoteric dispute, but I don't think the technique of using a mantra can get you to the base of consciousness as well as letting go.

@retread01 False, TM is an action. Saying TM is a religion is like saying that praying is a religion. Understand?
