Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and director David Mamet has, in his own words, gone from a Hollywood veteran to “the hermit of Santa Monica”. Celebrated for his plays American Buffalo, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Speed-the-Plow, Mamet has dedicated his formidable energy to the culture war raging in La La Land.
To mark the publication of his memoir, Everywhere an Oink Oink, Flo Read spoke to Mamet about the death of storytelling, antisemitism in America and his zeal for Donald Trump.
// TIMECODES //
00:00 - 00:45 - Introduction
00:45 - 05:58 - When did David Mamet realise he was destined for the storytelling business, and how has the industry changed?
05:58 - 10:40 - The politicisation of the screenwriting industry
10:40 - 17:43 - David Mamet on being politically outspoken in a liberal industry
17:43 - 22:40 - The role of the mainstream media
22:40 - 23:28 - “Nobody cares about diversity”
23:28 - 28:01 - Does David Mamet feel any differently about being an American Jew in light of recent events?
28:01 - 36:20 - Will Donald Trump win in 2024?
36:20 - 38:44 - Does Mamet believe in banning speech?
38:44 - 42:28 - The future of Hollywood
42:28 - 43:06 - Concluding thoughts

This is what Ian Bremer is saying it not an Arab or Palatinian. I have been to Israel and have seen their Jewish fundementalists who are worse than Hamas. They spit Christian clergy in the face. There are plenty of Jews who hate those religious natinalist is Israel. These are mostly poor ulta religious Jews who came from eastern Europe ghettoes and stayed in Israel. The ones who could leave left. They assasinated their own prime minister. I bet he doesn't know any black person. No teacher tells a kid that you are of wrong sex As for his support for Trump he seems to have forgotten Charlotte ville or his meeting with Kanya West. Let me tell you why Netanyahu got on with Trump: Because both of them want the Jews to immigrate to Israel. After all these years Israeli population still hasn't caught up with Palastinians. Netanyahu was begging the French Jews to immigrate to Israel. This is why he promotes antisemetism out side Israel. This is why he got on with Trump . Open your eyes.

@@ps5801 It’s true that there are some very solid voices in the Jewish community including people like Prager, Medved and Greenwald. However, EVERYBODY knows, but no one will say out loud, who’s behind all of the elections fuckery, media manipulation, and Deep State machinations. By simply stating what is plainly obvious to EVERYBODY, one will immediately be labeled as anti-Semitic. Finally, it may come as a shock but I’m actually a Judeophile and I have a deep respect for Jewish culture, heritage and faith. My political opposition to a broad swath of this group is just that…political. I'm here on the dusk of my wonderful life, missing my family members. David Mamet filled my mind, took me into his time in another place than mine. I will listen to this many times. As to President Trump I spent every day of his Presidency being amazed at all that he accomplished, hearing Mamet list it all was truly wonderful, so many days I would wonder how are people missing out on such ground breaking accomplishments. I greatly appreciate the gift of this interview and time spent. I will listen to it many times, share it, and most of all ponder it when sitting outside in the sunlight .

I still can't understand why anyone but Trump can say all the nasty things they want about others, far worse that Trump ever has, but somehow when Trump says anything that anyone disagrees with, he is manipulated to stand out like a sore thumb, as if everyone but him walks softly and speaks only the kindest words about any other person. I mean hasn't the media done nothing but throw mud in his & his supporters faces? The anti-Trumpers have twisted reality to it's limits to demonize anyone who doesn't hate Trump, but Trump is the "mean" one? Damn this world is so grossly inside out and gas-lit to the max. I don't think there could even be a more hypocritical time in history than right now. Trump has brought out the screaming demons hiding in people, and man do they unleash in their agony and bitterness. Democrats and anti-Trumpers are the all-time "dish it out a plenty but can't take the smallest part of what they dish out" crowd. In 60 plus years I've never seen anything close to the current hatred for Trump, and complete lack of self-awareness in those who oppose him. And I've even seen how many "conservative" pundits have a habit of holding their noses every time they mention Trump. They're almost worse than the Left in their smug self-righteousness, and I've learned to hate every stinking one of them for revealing their own inner cry baby. Trump brings out the insecurity of all the people you thought had their sh_ together. Ironically Trump is the only one left that I have any respect for.

To borrow one of the great lines from, appropriately enough, the movies; "Hold on to your hat, it's gonna be a bumpy ride". Mamet really puts it into the most honest perspective; about how it's gonna get worse before it gets better, but his belief that we will get there is worth holding on to our hats and everything else. It amazes me how fresh genuine reason can sound coming from someone with his long years of experience doing battle with the establishment and, I think, himself. Thanks for bringing it to us.

The interviewer’s questions were very mainstream and the she must have had a reality check as she did not confirm or deny anything. I am an actor, writer and director in Community Theatre who supports a family by teaching school kids day to day. Rarely do I hear or see theatre that grapples with our modern society in Australia 🇦🇺 or modern democracies. Most, if not all the mainstream practitioners and critics say how wonderful the shows are because they get kickbacks like Mamet says. Thanks for letting Mamet run his mouth in an unconventional manner.😮😊

What I love most about the world is to see different cultures and how they have evolved over the centuries. It makes this planet magical. How different societies find new ways to solve their own problems and live their lives. I love the diversity of this world. But how do cultures become unique? Through periods of isolation, because we naturally stick together and form smaller groups. And although migration always occurred and wars always merged two cultures, those periods of isolation were longer. Globalism is the opposite of diversity. It is dilution of a culture by centralized power who claims to know the right way of living their lives. So, for those who support diversity and inclusion, if you also support globalism and the WEF, you are actually killing diversity over time. Those two don’t go together. I do not support a path to a one world civilization, poor of culture, replaced values, weak and mediocre. A lot of us questioned the importance of tradition and classical education. Now I see why. The world without them becomes so weak and vulnerable. Yes to free enterprise and no monopoly, where trade becomes the true diplomacy and the reason why we dont kill one another despite our differences. We are dealing with a global mafia now…

Good grief, you guys didn't watch that movie to think that about Sound of Freedom. The film was no different from any other film in Hollywood. The acting was good. The production was good. NOT GREAT, just good. There was no religion in this movie, less than most Hollywood movies. So there's was really no reason at all for her to call it a right wing movie. Rescuing kids from kidnappers is not "right wing", and it was based off of a real story.

Not disagreeing, but I think she was deliberately repeating what the mainstream said - though it seems she has not seen the movie. The bit they skated over was how a movie about sex trafficking of children could be - and was - framed as right wing by liberal media/ critics.

Hate is a human emotion, felt by the human, just like love or any other. To express an emotion felt cannot be a crime. To act on a feeling resulting in true physical harm, is already a crime. Free speech, all speech, and from that we see the thoughts and potential intentions of other humans. Whether they act on them is an entirely different thing

"Hate crimes" were invented by the ruling class to deter those motives for crime that particularly offend either the sensibilities or the security of the ruling class. The Soviets and Nazis also had "hate crimes." Free nations do not have such a classification. In America they were first imposed in the 1960s, the decade when America as a free nation ended.
