@@LiftingVeganLogic You’re question is easy. What’s the moral difference between humans & animals? Humans are a completely different life form created in the image of God, and thus it’s evil/sinful/against God’s will to hurt or kill us. Funny how you thought that question was like impossible to logically answer or something. Also I have a question, do you support abortion? If you’re answer is yes then you’re hypocritical. It's pointing out the hypocrisy in your religious ideology, according to you it's not OK to kill an animal for food, it is for tech. Most would argue food is more of a necessity to survival than your Iphone, closet full of clothes when you could survive with a few different garments, could use kerosene lamps, could not go overseas because you aren't that important, etc etc but vegans see these luxuries as necessities for survival apparently.

Honestly, I think the caller screwed up a couple of times here, he shouldn’t have asked DP to justify himself to the Cow but rather to the caller himself, if he had been asked to justify capital punishment it would have been absurd to say “I don’t need to justify anything to you because you’re not on death row”. Likewise when he finished his word salad of animal agg environmental talking points, rather then redirect to the poor first question, he should have simply said “so if all of those points are provably wrong, you’d go vegan?” Irritatingly, he was given all the time and space to say as little as possible.
@garyloewenthal
@garyloewenthal 2 жыл бұрын
In fairness to the caller though, "Who do I justify it to?" is an absurd and probably unexpected deflection, and when you're on air in the middle of the discussion, it's hard to immediately think up the response that you might come up with after it's over and you have the time to think about it. In any event, I suspect that if DP saw someone trying to stab a puppy, and the attacker asked who he should justify his actions to, as some sort of justification for his violence, DP would instantly recognize the question as absurd.

When they start talking about other issues that are much, much harder to defend, that's when you start seeing who they really are. I'm probably the same. David Pakman was born in Argentina. That is a big meat eating country. I can't believe he thinks switching from meat & dairy to plant-based diet would require massive growing of more crops to get the same nutrition. Surely everyone knows by now that the vast majority of agricultural land is used to feed the livestock industry. As Ed Winters always reminds us, switching from meat & dairy to plant-based nutrition would free up vast swaths of agricutltural lands to be "rewilded." Perhaps David believes all livestock live on the Argentinian Pampas?

The amount of nonsense from David is mind boggling,talking about water usages in plant growing when one hamburger needs 2.5 tons of water to “grow”
@graememcelligott8874
@graememcelligott8874 2 жыл бұрын
I've roughly estimated land needed to grow crops for human use alone and it does come out to be less than is the case now. But it might be closer than it appears because you also have to allow for crops for other uses, such as oil and textiles. Consider that if plant-based products were used to replace wool and leather, for example, we'd need to grow those plants. The thing is that critics don't seem to realise how little land is needed to grow enough food for a single person. Most estimates come out to about .12-.13, possibly .15 hectare per year. Overall, though, Pakman did rather fail to tackle the questioner's concern. In the end, justification in regard to moral concerns comes down to the person themselves. The real question is, how do you justify it to yourself.

Perhaps the question posed to him and response videos like *this* will force him to reconsider? Very little of Pakman’s content is related to environmentalism or the impact of CO2 emissions. Not long ago he did a video promoting electric vehicles- but that’s about it. I’m not surprised at all that his overall lack of interest in the science of environment related feedback loops would render him (still) a meat-eater. He’s admitted in the past that he doesn’t know much on the topics of the climate crisis.

@bringhomethebasil8729
@bringhomethebasil8729 2 жыл бұрын
@@planetofthevegans880 yes, please read my very first sentence. The rest of my point was that I wasn’t surprised at all by his response because all meat-eaters find their reasons for why they continue to consume animals. He’s said many times on his channel that he is not vegan and he’s never advocated for it. He also doesn’t care much to investigate the science behind the climate crisis and how a plant based diet (vegan) diet could minimize that impact. He’s simply justifying his eating of meat by faulty, repetitive statements that others routinely use.

How is someone so smart let cognative dissonance make one look the fool? David is usually quite thoughtful but this made him look so bad. He didn't enter the conversation allowing his thought to be challenged & keeps bringing up environmental points that aren't even true, it's just a made up thought of that's how he imagines the future not based on anything but imagination & not looking at facts of how much crops/water go to feed livestock. Also look at a field of cows, monocrop of 1 grass, no trees, 1 species of animal; the cow. That's just "grass fed" cows. Mice are killed by the milllions for cows/feed/fields alone & would be severely reduced by stopping breeding/creating deforestation for cows. Severe monocropism happens with animal ag at a massive scale, yet he didn't bother to think about it & pointed at plants. David's arguement is there will be 5 monocrops (also wouldnt be true were the world to go vegan as there are over 30,000 different species of vegetations/fruits humanity already consumes) which is what the meat industry is doing right now on mass scale far greater than a vegan one would ever cause. Land for animal AG is #1 cause of deforestation & killing/removal/genocide of indigenous peoples, like in Brazil & Canada that's happening right now. Grass fed animals take more land/cause more deforestation. Canada is shooting wolves - cubs included - from helicopters to "protect" cows/fields (they rarely hunt cows yet that's how they choose to portray it) under the guise of "conservation" on top. That's what people pay for to have grass fed beef in Canada. Land taken from cariboo, elk, moose, etc etc for the monocrop of COWS. I hope David wakes up... Thank you for doing this video! Then he doesn't even register things like no mass farms needed for many places & instead community gardens & community fridges to feed each other. But most people aren't even prepared for that thought process either.

As a relatively new vegan (almost 2 years) I’m amazed at how bad and misinformed anti-vegan arguments are. Reminds me of the “anti-atheist” (I know, weird term) arguments I keep hearing. Once I had done the heavy lifting and realized I was an atheist, I kept holding my breath waiting for that devastating argument that proved me wrong. It never came, and when I do hear these supposed “checkmate, atheist!” arguments, it’s like…really? Only it seems worse on the anti-vegan side. I think it’s at least party because most people truly have never seen these places (feedlots, slaughterhouses, meat processing plants, dairy farms) and their nitty gritty detail practices and just don’t realize the scale of the atrocity and suffering that is just routine practice. Most people go their whole lives only seeing the “sanitized” final product in pretty packages and in idealized advertising. Anyway, nice video, thanks.

I perceive a logical fallacy at 7:45: False dichotomy between a world that maximizes monocropping and a vegan world. For example if one did not use any monocropping whatsoever to feed animals, one could still fish or hunt. This entails that one would eat barely any meat at all, but that is not my point. My point is there is a false dichotomy. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Davids point about all the infrastructure that has to be changed is irrelevant. Here’s an analogy, imagine society evolved in such a way that there’s $1 trillion industry in building hidden spike traps along every sidewalk in the world, imagine the infrastructure that would have to be in place to build these and to service them. They would have to be a dedicated lane in the road for the body removal service vehicles. The spike factory workers livelihood depend on there spike careers, all the body removal workers would be out of jobs, the spike sharpeners.... What about the people who make the pumps that pump out the blood from the pits.. I could go on and on about why we should just continue to make these hidden spike traps in the sidewalk. One can instantly realize why that is a bad argument

David is exactly the target audience for vegan messaging. He clearly knows it’s unhealthy, causes suffering and is wrong so says he try’s to buy ethically sourced meat. And yet he excuses himself by saying the alternative is worse - water usage, crop monoculture, land use, without having looked into the science. I believe David bases his judgements on evidence so can be helped by gentle, supportive, encouraging education. Ask any counsellor how you change someone’s habitual beliefs and behaviours and there is a well trod path we can all learn from.

how do so few people realize that we would grow fewer crops if we all want vegan because the animal victims that are consumed eat way more crops worth of calories than we get out of their flesh? like how when calorie of be requires 6 to 25 calories of crops? and the fact that 90% of all soybean production in America is literally done just to produce crops for farm animal feed?

Eating meat, eggs and drinking milk are not illegal therefore I can take part in these actions without ever having to justify my actions to anyone.
