The heart and soul of THE Temptations! Listen closely and you can hear a distinct similarity in the gritty soul of Ruff's voice with that of Sam Cooke's. Two of the greatest sweet soul singers ever recorded. Sadly, at this point E.K.'s shimmering falsetto, had peaked with, "...Imagination..." and was rapidly declining from decades of chain smoking. No longer was he able to sing out those angelic high notes, that bought tears to the eyes of women, and men alike. Rest in Peace my brothers. You weren't here long, but your impact is everlasting. 🎤👓🎩👞🎤🎩👞🎶

He did it on the Reunion Tour (a whopping 9 minute rendition at that) in every show I’ve heard but you’re right - he strayed from it in later years, instead opting for Statue Of A Fool or I Wish It Would Rain.

This sounds like an alternative version of the 1987 concert David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks did in California as part of the tour they did with Mary Wells and Martha Reeves (from, perhaps, the following or previous night) that was captured on the DVD "Dancing In The Street." Great job! The music quality is even better - HD?, and you can hear every instrument and voice, though, if you want to see them perform these songs, you would have to seek out that concert at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJjLkGygYrCjgdE

Can someone tell me where and when this concert was performed. FABULOUSSSSSS!!!!!!!
@adolphusmitchell35643 жыл бұрын
i think santa monica california. during the summer of 1987 david, eddie, martha reeves, and mary wells went on tour together(with david and eddie being the headliners) this is from the first show (2nd one has a video). after this show i read in tony turners(road manager for david ruffin and eddie kendrick) that mary threw a hissy fit about how long david and eddie were on stage(she'd been complaining about them headlining over her earlier, since she was Motown's first star) and threatened not to do the 2nd show after getting paid, which is why some of the songs like, boogie down and girl why you wanna make me blue, weren't performed the 2nd show because David refused to limit the number of his songs and tried to talk eddie out of it. David was convinced they could continue without her or replace her with someone else because by this time her voice was failing due to years of chain smoking and throat cancer, she shouldve been on rest but she needed the money (her husband, curtis womack, is the one announcing them), three years later 1990 she would be dead
@coraguice8667 Жыл бұрын
Martha Reeves is decease? Yes I seen the video by the young lady talking about the incident at the concert per Tony Turner's Book. However where is the video of the concert/ part 2. Seem like they really had a lot of fun and a fantastic show in spite of the incident. Thank You for your reply. GOD Bless You. P. S. Yes I get it. You are talking about Mary Wells. Yes sadly she died of throat cancer. The book reviewer pointed out Martha Reeves that got mad so I thought. David Ruffin surely was out there on which ever one of them it was lol. He was my favorite.

Was this apart of the tour they did with Martha Reeves and Mary Wells during the summer of that year the line ups the same except there’s a few more songs this show
@Wrighto4 жыл бұрын
I believe this is part of that same tour. 1985 had them with Hall & Oates and the anti-apartheid Sun City album. 1986 had them touring a bit/doing their own thing (like Kendrick recording a duet), 1987 they toured with Martha and Mary. 1988 had them touring together more 1989 came they got into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they met up with Dennis Edwards and formed the Kendrick Ruffin Edwards group spanning from 1990-1992 Sorry about the history lesson haha, but yeah I'm sure it is part of the Martha and Mary tours they did
