people forget what prisons are actually for, its not just for punishing people, its for keeping good people safe from bad people. lots of young people wear it as a badge of honor going to prison and comng out wiht better criminal expertise they picked up in prison. its shit man. the whole prison system sucks but i dont think its the answer for them to be out in public

bring back hard labour and rehabilitation then' 2 things will happen other than them getting fit' they wont want to go back and they will have access to learning life skills, just a choice on how they use them once they get out but i can garentee if they a breaking rocks by hand 7 hours a day instead of lying about in their cells watching tv getting fat it wont be so attractive to risk going back.

In Singapore, drug addicts do not go prison, they go into drug rehab centres and they engaged the families, societies to steer them back onto the right path, some actually continue studying when in the rehab cos the home is not ideal and companies has trainee programmes so that they can learn a skill, landscaping, baking, cooking.... actally the individual choice is very important, they have to feel the urge to not waste their lives in this matter, some turn over when they saw their friends died of an overdose or jump off while high on drugs. So that individual have to make that choice to turn around but giving them money to keep them addicted is sending a wrong message.

Best way to avoid re offending is to make prisons that bad. People don't wanna go back. Leave 2 beds and 1 toilet but have 10 people in the 1 cell to shear the 2 beds. Give guards the right to put prisons in their place with a batten or a gun with live rounds. You don't go to prison and get the same rights as law-abiding citizens. A few broken ribs will remind a inmate that they are a criminal and in jail.

While they may enjoy certain tax exemptions or deductions related to their charitable or community-oriented activities, their primary purpose is not tax avoidance. When a wealthy individual uses a trust to avoid paying taxes, the primary purpose is to reduce their personal tax liability and protect their assets. It's well known that supporting drug deals and beneficiaries actual improves the social jobs in this country that you generally have to get a degree for, there is a local economy for it, teachers, graduates and office workers that spend their earnings at the supermarket. I know it seems morally wrong, but to count to 10 you need 1. However if everyone gets addicted to drugs AND you have no social workers, then you are in trouble, so how would you have social workers to start with if you didn't have a minority drug users?

If a benefit wont fund a drug addiction, why is he using the logic that cutting a benefit will force them into positive life changes. If the benefit doesn't fund drugs, it funds life - and he wants to cut a benefit of those with addiction issues (scientifically literature suggests that this is often caused by trauma, genetic predisposition or societal stressors). So effectively, his solution to welfare recipients with drug addictions is; make drugs more of an option to reduce stress, or force them into mania by restricting their access to basic necessities. This dude is a size 22 clown shoe.

Well if they get in I hope they provide non-religious options for drug addicts, as so many seem to be religion based. Those who do not have faith in a god struggle in those courses. Those who are addicts from taking opiates get a government paid substitute to stop them using, however it keeps them an addict, is that considered treatment or part of what ACT wants to get rid of? Also many of the people he is talking about on the sickness benefit have been told by doctors and by the government they can't work. Those who have been on it for years and for years being told (and accepting) they can't work may not be able to adjust to all of a sudden being told they can, and that they have to.

How do you change a person who choosed to do bad things in the past to want to do good things in the future? Let them out of jail early or not send there at all? What you need is a religious conversion if you truly want that kind of turnaround in a person. Check with what religious communities have effective prison ministries with results for turned around lives. Possibly even ask Brian Tamaki about it if he's had an effective ministry in that space.

The purpose of prison is punishment not rehabilitation. If you can rehabilitate at the same time, great, bonus. But it's negative reinforcement at its core. That does work to a point and keeps criminals off the street for a time so the rest of us can get on with it. The solution to an imperfect system is not to let everybody out of jail.
