Perfection takes time. Don’t beat yourself up, I have been working on a 1956 F100 now for 8 years but plan to finish it up by winter. There again perfection takes time. What is the compression you plan to have? The short block looks like a dish piston and the heads look like large chamber. Talk DV into trading up to a good used bridgeport.

Mark, the compression is going to be 11.1 to 1, the chamber is pretty shallow and is only 63cc.. on the bridgeport he has some big plans once the other room is complete.. Andy

I heard on a porting video that hemi heads aren't the best for N/A because the line of sight during overlap is too good and you get too much intake charge hitting the exhaust on overlap. He said hemi heads are better suited to boost for this reason. Mind you this guy ports inline heads to 400cfm so he must know a thing or two.

You guys have verified why the boss 429 was a great nascar engine. A great head coupled to a big bore, short stroke big block that was happy at 7000 rpm in 500 mile races.
@UnityMotorSportsGarage
@UnityMotorSportsGarage 3 жыл бұрын
CJ, when you think about it.. it does make sense.. with the head design it was meant to run wide open on superspeedways and operate in a narrow rpm range... The team's of the day figured out to make it work on shorter tracks they filled in the bottom portion of the port to make it D shaped... This reduced the port volume and increased velocity and port energy.. which made much more midrange torque... That helped the car come off of the corners.. Andy

@@cjbert6790 interesting story. The first 426 hemi where used in vehicles to pull trailers. In the early 60s a well know drag racer who used w series Chevy in his sling shots, pulled his car with a hemi. After the first trip to the drags he realized how much power the hemi made and took it out the following week for use in the race car. The introduction of the hemi into the NHRA was born. Dan Knapp eventually joined the ramchargers group. They actually made more torque as a 426 then the 454 Chevy and Ford big blocks of the time. The big block Chrysler bottom end is still the leader in low rpm torque per cubic inch. Even more then the 455 buick.
