Worth remembering that TOR has a lot of nodes owned by government/s. It was developed by the American government for their military from what I remember?

I remember something someone told me a while back with respect to the whole argument of "I'm not doing anything wrong, what do I have to hide?". Its a bit vulgar but "Are you intimate with your significant other in a place where everyone can watch? Why not? What do you have to hide? Having privacy doesn't mean you are doing something wrong".

I see a picture of Edward Snowden on Naomi's wall, so I thought it would be fitting to quote him here, especially since you started the conversation making the point about people saying they have nothing to hide, and why bother to advocate privacy: 'Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say'.

15:59 This is true. Crucial services I need will only allow chrome or edge. Those privacy tools on the more private browsers are what makes them 'incompatible'. when they say Incomplete, they mean 'we cannot see your secrets'

I’ve given up. The fingerprinting they use is insane and using a vpn, brave, etc are useless there are too many ways too fingerprint someone and collect data. The only ways is to not use these service’s and software period that collect information. I try my best like she says though but here I am using KZbin though.

Very interesting video. I recommend that you interview either an attorney or a prosecutor regarding how data is collected by governments. This also goes for protonmail and vpn services. Most cases where data is collected will never be released to the public since the perpetrators are either atp or groups like revil for example.

This is one cool chica. We need more people like this in the world:) For me privacy is about freedom of mind. Freedom of choice... I went on an advertisement abstinence a while back. In which, I committed to not witness an advertisement for 1 solid year. I learned a lot. You see, I already knew ads were doing things to our brains, but when you actually walk the walk you learn much more. One result is : I can articulate why they no bueno. The short of it is : Adverts program the mind and change peoples basic seek & reward behaviors/habits. This not only chips away at our basic freedom, but it also modifies how people navigate their lives. Problems are solved by monetary means. Ads reduce the amount of effort people are willing to put forth to make their lives "their own." They modify how people assign value to things. The seeking behaviors being reduced is probably the biggest thing to be concerned about. I can ask a simple question to exemplify this >> When was the last time you sought music which was new to you. Music which is a new genre. Something you've never heard before. Did you succeed ? How long did you try ? For those people who actually *have* sought this >> How did you get there ? Was it from recommended ? Was it from a curation(like editors picks) ? Here is an exercise you can do to expand your music universe : Go on to bandcamp or soundcloud and search for words or make up song names. Random words or things on your mind. Keep listening to new stuff on that search result until you find something cool... There are so many evils which have arisen from ads that I have lost sight of the benefits they were created for. They are literally turning peoples brains to mush. Affecting peoples dietary choices and ultimately their health. Think about it. One cool result of my advertisement abstinence stint was a peace in my mind. A peace of mind. A peace which is typical of meditation. It was beautiful. Privacy is bigger than persecution.

Great video and another great guest! Privacy is a mindset, based on one's own circumstances. Most important, make very small changes and try to help others one small step at a time. Michael bazzell has a podcast (privacy, security and OSINT), with how-to basics on phones, sms, email, etc. for average people. His book Extreme Privacy is excellent, covers the full spectrum, and was recently updated. Superb reference material at the very least. Some other great resources: techlore, the hated one, opt out...

With regard to privacy focused messaging apps: Session > Signal Signal is my daily driver, but with regards to privacy, Session is > Signal. The reason being, Signal, while encrypted, it is still tied to your phone number. So there is still X amount of obfuscated data being delivered to that device. Session is a decentralized app that creates a unique hash to identify the packet recipient. Re: Cloud... SpiderOak Love the channel. Stay gold.

The biggest question i have about something like brave, from what i heard is that Google tracks you not just from cookies and stuff, but alsof from your logins. the fact that you log in to somethings like youtube, they still are building a user profile purely based on your logged in profile, same why they always tell you to never log in if you are using TOR. How can this be stopped while still using a profile with what you need.

Any alternative to Qubes that does compartmentalization in the same way? (tried Qubes-R4.1 but got graphical artifacts and glitches even after following the documentation and disabling desktop composition, I'm guessing it was because of RX5700, seen a few complaints of people struggling to get Qubes and Xen vm to play nicely with 'modern' desktop hardware).

I like this vid. Good insight. My privacy was previously exposed to Naomi Brockwell and I am holding her totally responsible..

Consciousness about privacy and knowing how to protect it is crucial in today’s digital world. However, sometimes it feels like talking about it is a waste of time. I mean, the amount of data and information people voluntarily spread about themselves through Facebook/ Meta products, by using Google products, through Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social platforms, is more than even the most wet dream of intelligence agencies. 😊

Generally, sound advice. However, when protonmail signups shows your keystroke letters even once, don't trust em. They are conscious of this weakness yet has designed this flaw by choice per response by the agent. So is it really secure when your password is shown when signing up?

Internet privacy/anonymity is a double-edged sword. If you would ever come under investigation for some reason and you have little to no digital footprint, you will stand out like a clown at a funeral. For every measure you take to hide yourself you shuld also do something else to look completely normal and boring.

Great video! Any alternative to Extreme Privacy recommended? The book is not available in digital and is very difficult and expensive importing printed books in my country.
