Reminds me of the original 21st century long hunter… I remember when you cleaned the barrel with sand in the creek and mentioned shooting pebbles. (Yeah, I have been watching and learning from you for years!)

A word of caution, if you get a misfire, do not open with the breach facing you. The charge may go off and send the adapter your way. It was allegedly a problem with the old Huntsman.

Beyond impressed with the thought process behind the 12 gauge loadout. Never would’ve thought about the rounds color, brass type etc for being able to differentiate your rounds for different game.. and that before we get into the adapters. Well done Dave once again

It’s not a competition shoot, if it puts food on the table that’s the TOOL I need . Common sense says you don’t use bird shot for a deer or bigger . And I try to keep a few of each bird shot , buck shot ,or slugs. Always great to see the knowledge you share cause always learn something new.

Todays gun and hunting industry is so flooded with elitism and people saying you gotta do everything a specific way or not at all. It’s nice to see somebody getting back to the basics and showing that for most people, you don’t need the newest coolest gun to shoot game

First off congratulations on the deer Dave. And the versatility of the 12 gauge breaks are absolutely amazing in my opinion! That's a good tip to remember your loads if you have them all in a pouch loose. I've heard a ton of good reviews about those adapters, they have several different calibers that you can choose from and I think that's a great piece of kit to have to expand your survival. I love your longhunter videos and can't wait to see more!!

@Dave Canterbury I just seen this on your Facebook too a shotgun can take any two or four-legged animal in North America, and it can shoot softer than a 20 gauge by lower recoil rounds plus all the extra accoutrements you have laid out in front of everybody. So the question isn't, what's better? it's why don't people just accept that it's a phenomenal platform? It is amazing for many situations not just hunting. And like you said on Facebook the shells are easily discernible one from another, unlike 20 gauge where they're all yellow. AND the 12 gauge shotgun has so many rounds made for it now there's thousands and thousands of different options of slugs and buckshots and everything else you can think of these days the possibilities are endless for a 12 gauge.

I was concerned about the round ball in a shotgun chamber going through the force cone smoothly but I see it's not a problem. I've used my single shot with the short line convertor but was a little chicken about the round ball. Thanks for the tips.
@TFWS62 жыл бұрын
I was concerned about that too. Out of a hull I can understand because the plastic hull guides the ball right to the center. With the adapter it has to ride the cone. I guess it’s no different from shooting a ball from a revolver.

I always keep the primer out, until I’m ready to hunt. But that’s just me. I made a habit of doing it while hunting on public land, so I didn’t forget to remove it when I got back to the truck. You couldn’t even pay me to hunt public land these days, but I still do it out of habit.

I've bought the 209 adapter, and 12 gauge to 45ACP adapter. Love them both. I can head shot at 50 yards with the 45 thanks to the longer sight radius - and lots of practice. That's the extent I'll try because after that I can't see the target any more (bad, old man eyes). No, I won't be hunting with the 45 at 50 yards, that's just for funsies.

I tell people like this. If it puts meat on my table, it's the perfect gun for me. I'm not out there competition skeet shooting. I'm out in the woods..... actually hunting. I've used smooth bore with slugs, and put a big 10 point buck on the table. It was my grandpa's 16 ga. I've also used my 12 ga with a rifled barrel to put a deer in the freezer. I've put plenty of rabbits and pheasants on the table with my 20 ga.

Its so unfortunate right over the border here in PA that they do not allow this method and consider it illegal. Its ridiculous as you've stated, its clearly muzzle loaded however PA Game Commission refuses to recognize it as one and consider it poaching if used, likely what that guy referred too. Hopefully we can get them to recognize this method as legal as it would really open the door up for muzzle loader season. Great vid

My being a NON hunter, not an anti-hunter, I look at this in a different light. This system of adapters and a single barrel shot gun makes up an excellent survival set up, along with a side arm, for a different purpose. You have always said; "always find more than one use for anything in your kit, if possible". With this setup and some various adapters, this goal is easily attained, is relatively light in weight and compact in size. Normally. I don't watch hunting/trapping videos, being a non-hunter, but I've learned that Dave Canterbury videos cover stuff others channels don't . I almost always learn something new. Id like to know where you got that nice tan colored bag from. It is exactly what I'd like to use as my haversack.

Hello Dave I have been watching your video's for a long time I love how your K.i.s.s. mentally and multi-use of the items you carry. I have one question about affective range. What would you say is the maximum affective range for the round ball in your experience. I know it would depend greatly on the shooters ability, but it would be cool to see a video of you shooting out to your maximum range hitting your target. Thank you very much for the great information and awsome learning tools. God bless and keep up the great work. KC

Dave, quick question about your butchering. I know there's probably a million ways to do it, but my grandpa, and dad always taught me to let the deer hang for at least one day before actually butchering. They said it was to completely drain the carcass, and to sort of age the meat. We would gut in the field, hang, and skin when we got home, and let it sit. What's the reason to do it all in one day?
@DavidCanterbury2 жыл бұрын
I will let them hang 2-3 unless temps are going to be above 45 which they were yesterday

Great video!!! I had an h&r 20 gauge prior to me watching your videos. But when you started a video with these adapters I sought out a 12 gauge. I cringed paying $120 for it but I didn't see too many in my area. Maybe touch basis with the synthetic stocks you used to promote years ago that had storage in the buttstock and the fore stock. So question. Did your tracker cat give up after the creek? Because it didn't like the water. LOL.
