I've been watching Dave since he started on KZbin. I even did some of the Pathfinder coursework while I was in Afghanistan in 2012. Much of this stuff has helped me to stay productive even under the worst of the circumstances. This is still one of the most underappreciated channels on KZbin, even after all this time.

You sold me on these adapter systems longgg ago.. and they just keep getting better and better. I also highly recommend everyone take a class in reloading ammunition. It’s very valuable information to know in a doomsday scenario. As we shooters know, in an emergency or panic, ammo is the very first to go off those shelves. If you know how to load your own, you’re already ahead of the game. Buy the materials (powder, primers, projectiles, etc) when there is no panic, that way you have it in advance for a decent price. The stuff basically lasts forever in a cool, dry environment.

A few years ago, I bought an el cheapo Fedarms SS12 folding/collapsing single-shot shotgun - to stuff in a backpack, and a flock of these adapters from various vendors - even including some 50 year old Savage Four-Tenners, that convert 12 gauge to .410 - as a project to evaluate the concept. I think it's brilliant, frankly, and it shouldn't be limited to single-shots. I have two side by side coach guns - one an outside-hammer black powder gun with Damascus barrels, that I'd only shoot 12 gauge black powder rounds in, but that with these adapters, which provide all the barrel/chamber strength required of the rounds they chamber, becomes a double rifle/modern smokeless 20 gauge/versatile platform - like a "Lego gun" equivalent in the shotgun world. Makes black powder Damascus guns usable field pieces again. These adapters work equally well in over/unders, giving you a rifle/shotgun combo or a centerfire/rimfire double rifle that switches back to a 12 gauge in a wink. My next test is with a Mossberg 600 pump using a smoothbore rifled slug barrel with rifle sights and a rifled insert, to capitalize on the sights. A manual load through the side port into the adapter (installed in the barrel before the barrel is installed on the gun) will require some workaround for the extractor/ejector, but it's a project - and that's exactly what these things are really good for - exploring what CAN be done, and how to work around the obstacles to extract the most versatility possible out of your armament inventory. Interesting video!

I am a HUGE fan of sub cal shotgun adapters. I've collected so many in various calibers and manufacturers over the years, love every one of them. Fun plinking and a great way to stretch out ammo and save money. I have a couple of smooth bore ones but I def prefer the rifled adapters. All my rifled adapters are extremely accurate. Great video, thanks for sharing 👍

I had to do a little studying but I finally figured out where you were headed with this. I started with a single H&R 12 ga mod choke, bought the 8” 22 cal adapter and the black powder adapter, then I picked up a .22 cal pistol with both cylinders and a holster. I didn’t quite understand the reasoning with the 45LC/410 until I watched the Last Shot video and it all came together for me and made sense, so...I ordered the stack pack and am looking at a Bond Arms Grizzly 45LC/410 derringer.

I've bird hunted with the same SxS 12g for many years. 10 y ago, bought a pair of 20g adapters. I dont use high brass. Low is sufficient. Having the gun loaded with 12 and 20g helps extend my ammo and allow me different shooting options. R bbl is mod, L bbl is full choke. The combinations and load amounts are quite useful. My 2 c.

I bought a "Rossi Matched Pair" (MP) in .22WMR/.410 a couple of years ago. I put a red-dot sight on the rifle bbl. (w/adapter), but left the irons intact. It breaks down into a 20" case and it's a nice, light, versatile addition to the car trunk. Great for camping trips...cost about $200 back then.(2020)

Good stuff. I have a bunch of these adapters even more then dave showed. They're great little things for what they are. I did find that you can kind of "time" or "pattern" the 22lr adapter by rotating it in the chamber to see how it shoots. It's pretty damn consistent if you can remember what way you oriented it each time you put it in. Mine hits pretty much dead on with the adapter facing the 9 o clock position in the chamber. Basically putting the 22 closest to the left because it's off center of the adapter.

Great video Dave! I have the videos you did years ago about these adapters as a saved video. Also the one on the butt stock and fore stock that holds survival gear for the H&R shotgun. I already had a 20 gauge but found a 12 gauge a couple years ago and yet to buy the stocks for both of them. To me those stocks make sense for a survival situation. Maybe cover those butt and fore stocks as a added video to this series??

Dave, a huge thank you for this video. I have a single shot H&R 20ga and this video is awsome. Hope to find a stack pack for this gun. It was my very first gun for hunting when I was 12 years old. I always loved hunting with it because of the lightweight and options. Now, I'd have even more. I've even killed deer and turkeys with it. I feel that little 20ga is a must-have survival gun. I only use the 22 adapter and keep the rest as a backup, but I found something pretty interesting. If you run a 22 revolver alongside this setup, you will get better accuracy at distance as the rounds don't tumble out of the barrel. But at 10 yards, the grouping was virtually identical with the adapter as it is with the pistol. It lands pretty much where the bead is. It was when it went out to 15 yards that it really started to open up to about a 5 inch group, and that may be because the bead starts to obscure the target more. Still, it works as intended. Definitely nice to have in a pinch

does Short Lane make an 8 inch .22 LR adapter for the .410 shotgun? for the 20 GA. shotgun? if so, it would seem to me, that would be better than the 12 GA. adapter for .22 LR. A lot of shooters will get an adaptor just for fun. If you only have 1 break open(single-side by side or O/U) shotgun for everything the sub cal adaptors come in handy, if whatever you are hunting is beyond the shotguns range. Right choke and shell, you can shoot big game out to 50 yds or a bit further with buckshot. But 100-150 yds is where a 30-30 or bigger cartridge come in handy. My last deer was shot with my Browning superposed 26" I/C-Mod at a bit over 100yds with an old 30-30 Win barrel machined down to fit my O/U chamber I had it made back in the 1970's. Very nice 10 pointer. By handloading got that gun, from a 25 yds to a 40 yds Buckshot Deer gun. But that 30-30 adaptor made it a 150 yds Deer getter

@TheTimMarshall
@TheTimMarshall Жыл бұрын
45-70, is that available? I’m not sure, but just with my limited knowledge of the utility of projectiles, there’s probably no need for one. A 45-70 is a heavy hitting, generally shorter range cartridge. (Also, an expensive one.) you can get that with a 12ga slug. These adapters are more for if you’re out and about, and need to shoot a squirrel with your 12ga, but don’t want to eat a bunch of lead, is my understanding. Or actually humanely take a deer in the same situation with a rifle cartridge.

How does this system in a side by side 12ga. Double barrel. Do these adapters come in a longer rifle barrel length. Shooting a shotgun in one barrel and an accurate rifle round that would be accurate out to 250 yards would be wonderful. Just a quick question, I’ve seen some of those adapters coming in 30-30 and 45-70, along with other similar high powered rounds. Have you seen anyone use them? And or are they reliable enough to not damage the barrel. The last question is, I like to hunt a lot with a traditions 50 cal flintlock using round balls in particular. That being said could i also use round balls with this particular set up? I love the added advantage of being able to use any available ammunition at my disposal, but again i also really enjoy being able to cast my own round balls and use it in the same gun. Love your videos, extremely informative!

You going to just your powder load and also your shot load in the 12 gauge and have a perfectly profession gun for all situations at close range. What you could use is a rifle insert and a scope mount on your 12 gauge then you can convert your 12-gauge into a rifle capable of hitting game at three hundred yards or more
