Cheers. I was wondering if you will do a video about gloves. How to clean them, what to look for when you buy them, how much to spend etc. I have a couple of pairs of cheap and cheerful Sondico match gloves, from before I started to keep goal more. They're OK but get smelly quick, and develop splits pretty fast too.

You still at it these days? 😅

@@danielhall8383 Don’t bother with Sondico ones Daniel, spent slightly more on some Precision ones from Just Keepers, 4 games in and not a mark on them.

Hi! as an ex volleyball player, im learning to play as goalkeaper (thank you for your channel BTW) most techniques feel very natural. The V shape is a basic technique in volleyball. Is the most effective because as the ball presses against the hands the fingers wrap around the ball automatically and effortlessly. Thanks for the videos continue with the great work please. Hey David, could you give some tips on one-on-one's ? Maybe even make a full video if you have much to say. I like to play with my feet's wide because i fell much more comfortable and i fell that much more area is closed down, also i can move faster, but ball just keep passing through my legs.
@DavidHaynesGK7 жыл бұрын
Hey ya! Thanks for the comment! Yes, I'm most definitely planning for that to have a stand alone video - it's a really important topic to cover and quite challenging for us goalkeepers. As regards to the ball going through your legs - that's probably a technique thing (It's hard to say without seeing you in action). I suffered from the same thing, I'm fast out, good at closing the angle but i'm tall and have long legs which means it used to go under me a lot. Check out my block save technique video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/epabh4WQltuLhtE) - that save can be used 1v1 really effectively if you close the angle fast enough - it also means the ball wont go under you as it's super fast. it's also means you don't over commit early and still have a good range of movement if the striker tries to take it around you. So even if you have a wide stance by default and that's comfortable for you, that's okay if you can still get your knee down and make sure there's no gap between the legs. does that help? if not, explain what and I'll be happy to try and offer more specific advice :)

Thanks ! it sure helped a lot :) Congrats on 3000 subs, your channel is blowing

David, what knee pads do you recommend for 7 a side on a solid Astro surface? Got great elbow pads from BodyProx but they don’t do knee ones.

i have a very bad problem of only being able to dive to one side, for me i can dive to the left side pretty well but when the shot goes to the right i am in big trouble. do you know how to overcome this?
@DavidHaynesGK7 жыл бұрын
Hey ya! This is something I faced when I was younger, I'll be doing a video on diving in the near future to explain in detail but i'll try and help here. It's one of two things, and probably a combination of both. There's the technical side of it and also the psychological side of things. I'm assuming you can dive okay to the right - so you know how it should feel and understand how to technically do it. So it's probably more of an 'in the mind thing' - How about trying to practice on something soft.. maybe on a double bed? It sounds silly but get used to falling to your left side. Do it without a ball and get your body used to falling and even jumping to the left. Then maybe take it on the court and get a friend to practice with you, take the pressure off and it doesn't matter how many times you can't do it... but I bet if you keep practicing there will be a time where you DO do it... and it'll get easier from then, I assure you. You can dive left, you've just got to learn how.
@mirusse7 жыл бұрын
Jackarnigi What David said was right. I am right handed but always found myself making great saves to my left but not even making average ones to my right. Just practice going down to your weak side outside of a game situation and it should start feeling more natural. I don't know if it's common but i found my foot on my strong side was at a 45 degree angle pointing out when getting ready to dive so that may have caused me to be able to get down quicker on my strong side but evenly hampered my balance for getting down to my weak side.

David Haynes Hi Dave, great video. I'm a 5-a-side keeper too. Not been having the greatest of luck in my last few games, getting beaten over and over again by shots I should be saving. Any tips on how I can get my confidence back up as I don't feel like playing anymore purely out of embarrassment of how poor my form has become? Any advice on how to judge what side of me a power shot or regular shot even may be going? Also, saving powerful shots causes lots of pain in my hands and wrists potentially putting me off making a save for the next few mins. Any tips on how to avoid or overcome the pain? Thanks David, Safe hands :)

@@bf3sniper101 as for the bad feeling and your confidence: Just tell yourself that it is only a game and have fun making saves, then it will become better again. You dont have any pressure like the pros, so just enjoy it. As for the pain, I dont have any advice there, got the same problems. Only thing might be to use tape or maybe even gloves with fingersaves.

I need tips on how to save penalties in 5 a side.Also in a 5- side match the shot comes in so fast you've got to dive before the player has hit the ball sometimes. Is there any way to get some idea where the player is going to place the shot before he kicks it?.
@ThatsMyKeeper Жыл бұрын
pk stopping at higher levels is all about homework.... pay attention to who's left or right footed on the other team...... once you know that the person taking the kick is say right footed, then watch the angle they line up at....... ...if they are off at an agle that is wide.....then it should be more difficult for them to "turn" that shot across their body without drastically turning their hips....... (meaning your right side)... that being said....you still have to watch their hips as the approach and set their plant foot down.... if the hips are more open (on this right footed shooter who linesup at an angle off to the right (as you see it facing you)....) chances are they are going to have a hard time "turning" that shot scorrs their body asnd in most cases they are going to the far post from where they lkined up......(your left ...their right) if their hips are "flatter" and more paralele with the face of the goal as they approach and plant to shoot...its more likley they are going across their body to your right (their left).....and with right footed shooters this is often how they will be able to generate more power, so its often the shot you will see from most right footers.... watch the run up... ....is there any swooping or "bend" in their run up? (same right footed shoot lined up at an abgle to your right behind the ball.....if he were to take a straight run to the ball from where hes lined up behingd it.....then hes probably drilling it to the right side..(your left)......if he kinda "Swings" the run up to the ballmore towards the ball as youre looking at it, then its more possible he's looking to get more torque and turn that shot to your right....(his left) of course this is just in m y experience........ their are still very good strikers that KNOW this too, and they will use that against you.....for instance.....that same striker could even exaggerate the turning of his hips as he plants so we might think oh hes going to my right (the left side to the shooter), but then he hits the ball with a travela (outside the right ) swingin the shot to the opposite side......... hope any of this helps!

can we use a split save for outdoor goalkeeping

Of course, I use it in 5-a-side all the time - it's low, fast and covers a huge width. It's perfect for it if you can do it. I have a tutorial video on it if you fancy checking it out :)
