I think it's difficult to disassemble these joinery properly, especially if you're on your own .... I do a lot of carpentry, and it's not easy to do that on this type of boat and construction. you need the right tools ...And take you time

@@BG65 I was basically stumbling through it the whole way. So many random screws coming from the backside in. Completely inaccessible so just had to cut!

These are assembled in complete cabins ect then dropped in from above before they put the lid on so to speak. Cutting in the joints is best but you need blades for demolition that cut wood screws and nails. Then when you go yo put it back together your best friend will be a kreg setup.
@david_shih

Trying to take it one step at a time so I'm not even thinking about reassembly yet. On the upside I've got the whole kreg pocket screw kit! Thx for the tips!

I feel really bad for all of you Lagoon 450 Owners having to go thru these extensive refits but damned if they aren't fun to watch. I absolutely love your sense of humor. My wife thought I was loosing my mind because at one point you had me laughing so damned hard I was crying. Even though I haven't mashed my fingers like that in years I remember when I was younger and doing something equally as goofy. Know that you aren't the only one going to bed sore on this night, my sides are killing me. Thank you for the laughter and may you find all of the materials you need in a timely manner. God Bless...

Both Colin and Jamie were quite open about having much experience with tools and having worked with them professionally. Of course it's hard to relate that to your own experience from seeing them on KZbin only, because 20 minutes a week are 0.2% of their time. Experience makes a big difference in efficiency. David: I am sure you agree that if you had to do it a second time, you would be way faster, and I guess even the second hull often feels better.

You will sail a properly repaired and seaworthy 450, and feel damn proud each day of having been brave enough to sail to Panama and do the repair with your own hands. Only in the middle of the process the thought is more like "what have I been thinking?". Without experience, many things look simple at first, but performers dive in, learn and do what's needed after having discovered the truth.

Nice to see you remembered to take the photos BEFORE cutting and prying like I told you to mate :-) You forgot to mention to your viewers the handy trick of Bagging and labeling all the "bits" in tougher FREEZER STYLE ziplock bags and then also INCLUDE THAT LABLED BAG in one of the photos.. as one can't always put the "screws back in the panel for later" So include your labeled bag of bits IN one of the photos of where it goes... This makes it easier to make sure each bag goes where it needs to later when you have a huge bag of bags o bits ;-) I've been restoring vintage boats for years, and I can tell you this will help.. Especially as I saw you forgot why you went topside ;-) I have the same Ryobi kit on the skoolie bus I built. It's good for light duty only, and handy as a kit. the heavy duty work you are doing you either need full leccy (corded) or let that shit rest and not over heat. Again it's a handy kit, but you're asking a lot. Borrow or beg a leccy sawzall for the heavy stuff. Also, nice job on the fan but another pro tip, turn it on in the beginning regardless what you smell :-) No reason to breathe ANY of it.. Lastly I want to point out besides the many things I have built I am currently doing a complete rebuild of a British Microplus 502 here in North Carolina. It is the ONLY Microplus in the USA. (verify on FB microplus group and ask me mate Ed ;-) ) I am using Raka Systems Epoxy on this one of a kind restoration. The quality rivals West IMHO and they are much more cost effective. I am unsure if you are sourcing locally, but I would be glad to reach out to them 9they are aware of my boat, well prior to covid..maybe need a reminder) And I am sure that considering the publicity of your bulkhead issue they would love to have some advertising, and may be willing to work with you on product vs advert etc. I am unsure how all that works, I am not a youtuber. I just like their stuff, and they are a smaller local FL company. Man I wish you were stateside... I have a place in belhaven NC.. If I was there we could make short work of the repair . Best wishes to you... been waiting for an update :-) Dave P.S. Also remind the viewers the cold water shower theary vs the "dust " cheers Again I am not uber tech I am "Veruca Tuxedocat" on FB Or Rolesvillemarina at the gmail

Ah yes! Couldn't remember who told me to take pics, thanks! Good idea on including the ziplock in the pic. So I used up all my west systems epoxy so i tried some panamanian stuff that was horrible and wouldn't cure. Just imported 10 gallons of US composites...so far so good! You got me thinking on the next big projects...if theres a way to make it to NC...

Funny vid dude. Try a small waist tool bag for small things like screw drivers, wrenches and pliers. Get a larger canvas bag for the power tools. it wont be as funny as watching you lug that stuff around but it'll save a ton of energy and tool failure from dropping them.

David, in answer to your question about why you smashed your hand, it's part of the education... we all keep smashing our hands periodically to remind us to think a bit more about what we're doing ! ( and for the views ! ) I really like the fan system, it will make life more tolerable for temps, but you'll still need a vacuum attachment integrated with the sander/grinder to suppress the HUGE mess it will create. If your tools don't include that feature, you can go to the market and find a plastic bottle or two from laundry detergent, or better, beverages in clear plastic bottles with various cylinder or cone shapes to make a vacuum adapter for your tools with a box knife and duct tape. A little heat will also allow some creative bending or molding of plastic to get the best fit for each tool and shape of deck/hull where it's being used... PS get a dust separator like "Dustopper" or "Dust Right" so your vacuum cleaner(s) don't clog up every 2 minutes, and plan on multiple vacuums, you'll need to cycle them like your hand tools or they'll burn up from heat and dust.

Mike...love the explanation on why, I tend to remind myself more often than others. Good tips on the diy shroud, I brought a couple and both didn't fit my DeWalt grinder. As for the dust collector, I brought 2 dust deputy's which go inline into 2 of the largest shop vacs in parallel. It worked well and probably reduced the dust by 90%, but to be honest even 10% of dust was horrible to bare! Grinding videos coming soon!

They were able to make it look pretty nice in the end, but then again I’m not them so we’ll see. However the pure demolition job I did in the previous video (forward cabins) need to be completely rebuilt. I’m thinking we’ll do something completely custom for our needs, like a micro workshop/office in one cabin and maybe a quad bunk (submarine style) for the kids in the other side. I'm a big fan of the sailing parlay KZbin channel. And what I learned from watching them I believe would help. Especially if lagoon stepped up and provided. Not just the mod to fix the bulkheads but lent some expertise and how to dismantle the cabins with minimal damage. In the last episode of Salem parlay, I made this as an extended comment from what I've seen. Good luck on your dismantle and repair through the doing much good can be achieved along with the experience.

Yep! Think you have have reached the point of no return as far as thinking you will place the original cabinetry back in it's place. Would definitely re-think, and place some more access panels where needed. You are going to have to show others what you did in the future. I now have a better understating of why many of these Cats are creak, and moan festivals in the water. Going to boat shows and seeing all these lighter weight, all white, interior fiberglass designs are no bargain either. Where your boat is situated definitely has some storage, and outside labor advantages. But material availability has to be a ball buster. Getting the boat back in the water should be the primary concern. Keep up doing the routine maintenance on all the systems. We owners of these money pits in the water are all in the same boat. The projects never end.
@david_shih

@@david_shih Relining the faces on cabinetry in place has come a long ways in recent years. It's not very hard to learn how to do. Gives you the chance to insert some lighter weight components. Stiffening the bulk heads should eliminate most of that creaking, and moaning. Can't go wrong stiffening the length of the outside of the floor deck as well. Since you have the boat out of the water it's very easy to do. The channels end up not being visible. The channels will also benefit redirecting the water that eventually ends up splashing on the underside. Something Parlay has not addressed. Putting the floor deck back in place is not enough after seeing how much his deck flexed, and lifted in spots. Be a hero, and bring it up to him. This conversation is just between you, and me.

@@rnbspowa7of69 and they’re worth every penny! To be honest the only reason I got the job is because the guy hiring didn’t seem to know much, if anything, about boats.

Funny stuff David……..all the while I’m sad that your boat has suffered so much unseen damage that wasn’t your fault.

Hey BOB thanks for continuing to watch!!! I'm finally done with all the demolition and have actually begun the repair process so it's slowly coming together now. Also, I was sitting on the flybridge just now reading your comment to the boat and she wanted me to tell you that she doesn't want your pity and it's not her fault. Women...

@@david_shih haha! Women for sure. No, it wasn’t her fault either. I’ll leave it at that.

David, how’s the boat in age compared to parlay? Newer or older?

I think I’m a year newer than parlay. 2013.

@@david_shih I am so happy to hear from you and your true to your word. David, I am a huge fan of your channel and Parlay, the best on KZbin. My friend in Quebec Nick from Nick’s Garage mailed me his window decals and patch for my Mopar Jacket. Is there any possibility at all that you could help me and ask Colin if I could be mailed two of his Parlay decals for my man cave? I would be elated to possess Parlay decals.

I do like your videos and looking forward to more (as if you don't have enough to do). Sadly for me, you are still 1000% more handy than me. So, you may not be up to Parlay standards, you are still above a lot of us. Sorry about the Dogecoin problem. I thought for sure you cashed out.
