I left Kano finally to USA July 1991. I lived in Kano for 9yrs and was working for Alitalia Airlines in the 80s and early 90. It is good to see it again. Yes Kano has the biggest market in the Northern Region. Great job David, I love it. I had Italian friend Mr Galgani who use to buy hides and skins from the local people and sent them to Milan for use in making leather shoes and bags. Dan Gari Kano.

Beautiful, a lot has changed since I left sabo-gari in 2007, my last visit was in 2014. I grow up there and some of my family members are still living there. Now I can't live there, because I don't want to live anywhere in Nigeria that is more the six hours from my village in Imo state! Good work bro David, God bless you more in all you do

Thanks so much for this video, and the others on Kano. People like you are what we need to showcase the positives about Nigeria, and importantly, the fact that we will gain more by living together, than asking for the country to be divided. This was an eye opener for me. I haven't been to Kano in decades, but now, I am more encouraged and excited to visit. I really loved the market scene, and the narrative of the impact of the Igbo entrepreneurs in the leather market value chain vis-a-vis cross border trading with the Republic of Niger. You should do more of these types of videos showcasing the real Nigerians.. Great Job Sir!!!

Another nice video, 👍 Kano is relatively peaceful like he said but just like other parts of the country, political periods are very unsettling period. Sabon Gari is indeed a huge place but it's about to be dwarfed by the new market being built by the state government in partnership with brains $ hammers. To be the largest in West Africa with hotels and warehouses included. Most of the traders understand English well even if they don't speak it well. You can also learn conversational Hausa within 6 months of living in Kano which also makes it easier for nonnatives to set up a business. Northern Nigeria is the bridge between North Africa and West Africa so naturally, its markets will always have an economic advantage. But there will always be a rivalry between Kaduna and Kano 😂.
@DavidNkwa
@DavidNkwa Жыл бұрын
Will the traders be willing to move to the new market been built? Many times the location and accessibility will be the issue. Moreover for some reason people just prefer unorganized market
@mahmoudtokura
@mahmoudtokura Жыл бұрын
@@DavidNkwa The new market is not for these kind of traders, its more for industrial level merchants. For example, the largest pharmaceutical market will be there so agencies like NAFDAC and NDLEA will also have offices there. It is called "Kano Economic City".

The root cause of every riot needs is very important to avoid a repeat of such. Let us not forget that no matter what and despite the fact that we are human being we still have some areas that constitute differences which we need to respect. Most especially religion and politics. Nigeria constitution needs to take care of the local issues that make us different. Nigeria is a big country made of small countries or nations while those small countries are made of smaller countries or nations. Once you can respect the religion, tradition and politics of the local areas we found ourselves, then the problems will disappear.

If you know how many Igbos that have been slaughtered in that Kano you won't be talking shit. Since the civil war until this last few years that the killings stopped. Igbos living on Kano must know that before the ran from Kano to Kaduna they will all be killed. I remember the killings our pple suffered in kofar ruwa and how many bodies that was recovered. I think Igbos should bring their goods sell and go back no need of living because the culture and religious practice in that state is very very dangerous. I know kano since the 80s and i lost my uncle in one of the massacre of Kano

@@drinkskhalifa7153 look I don't know why you keep talking this way and I don't know how old you are. If you are old enough you won't be telling an Igbo person that Kano is very peaceful. No matter how difficult a place seems to be Igbos survive. Igbos lives in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Oman, Iran and other dangerous places and some will always talk good about that place. I have known Kano and the entire northern states since early 80s. All those pple you saw talking are under 40yrs and knows nothing about Kano. If I give you the list of Igbos who has been killed or disappeared in Kano state alone you won't believe it and that doesn't mean that Kano doesn't have good guys. I have a lot of friends from almost the entire state of the Nigerian federation but it doesn't stop me from speaking out the wrongs of each area. So Khalifa telling me to be good ambassador is like telling me to promote falsehood ir lie by telling pple you will live your normal life in Kano. I will never advice a northerner to go to the southeast and live normal northern life it won't work I will rather tell them the difference so when they get their they respect pples culture and believes just like every Igbo going to the North must be careful talking religion or trying to discuss Islam and also must be ready to accept bad words like Arne, and kafiri, maguzawa and other islamic words against him

@@SpiderDike-kb8dh if you're talking about history if history doesn't change then the whole world is not safe for human . You got your experience and now things change for good but u refused to accept the peace effort. Things happened years back and it no longer happening now, may these generations are better and they decided to do things differently but people like were working tirelessly to breach that. When was the last time you heard religious crises or ethnic???
@SpiderDike-kb8dh
@SpiderDike-kb8dh Жыл бұрын
@@drinkskhalifa7153 I refused to use derogatory words against you but you said I am fooling myself. I don't know if you have ever lost a loved one maybe ur father to barbarians in the name of religion. If you loose your source of livelihood to some ethnic group in the name of protecting their religion I wonder how you will praise such group or even wish them peace. I speak and write Hausa language fluently and I still follow the sermons of many of the islamic clerics and I know very well that crises will surely erupt one day and it will consume those who relaxed carelessly in those areas. Any issue that has to do with Islam in the north is very dangerous and can't be quelled easily even the law enforcement agents who suppose to save you are part of the religion and has the same believe. Yes islamic religious uprising has stopped for some time now in the north because the Northerners are battling with another islamic ideology that is against their normal routine making the other pple less problem of them for now but I will tell you that when it calms down islamic riot must happen again in Kano. Though the southeast has learnt to retaliate by killing northerners as well but it's only that the calibar and numbers of Northerners found in the southeast are very small compare to the population of Igbos in the north. I wish Nigeria disintegrates with the islamic Republic of Nigeria and the people's Republic of Nigeria and you will see how everywhere will be progress and development
