Peacock definitely wasn't optimum streaming, and streaming is not the path to growth necessarily ...but streaming is faaaaantastic for people who already know about the sport. No need to worry about setting a DVR for the right channel or hoping that the DVR follows long enough if there is a delay. Streaming also guarantees that the network or local affiliate can't trump coverage of the start or finish because of other properties or priorities on the channel. Hopefully they find a way to figure this out without sacrificing anything that's good about this deal. ...still wish Indycar would just invest in streaming on their own by way of a series-specific app like F1 has. To your point in the previous video, they already own the production company that does most of the work... and it's potentially some extra income for the series.

Please let me know what your thoughts are I do agree with your point of view

This is the bow on Roger Penske's IndyCar and American open wheel auto racing legacy. This is a watershed moment, will mean putting the ghosts of 'the split' to bed for good, and give the series the coverage and audience it deserves. And, when all the DTS-driven new racing fans in America sample IndyCar and realize, race-over-race, it's a far better, more competitive and compelling series, a new generation of fans will be created. And the money, both from the deal and sponsor exposure, will mean more for talent, development, everything. It's ALL to the good.

Like you said, gotta thank NBC because it forced fox to make every one of the races nationally broadcast. Disney/ESPN has F1 and I’m sure FOX sees the potential. The only downside I see is there will probably be a lack of a streaming service.

Move the start of the season up to begin the weekend after Daytona. Race every other weekend leading up to Indy, including at least 1 oval in that part of the schedule. Would get us close to 20 races and fill out the season pretty well.

Another thing FOX has the advantage of is for future scheduling, they can ask for different types of tracks to be on the schedule. As far as scheduling goes, why not redo Lucas Oil Raceway to get the track up to indycar specs and run a race to compete against F1. You stay in Indy and challenge F1 at the same time

I have no "Cable TV." I have no "Live TV" streaming services. Fox has NO streaming options for people who don't want to pay for dozens or hundreds of channels they don't want, so "No more IndyCar for us." And no, we're not going to pay for the "all the sports channels" service that might happen some day, if it survives litigation attacks. And no, I live in rental property so I won't have an antenna on my roof. And "network TV" comes from about 60 miles away -- no indoor antenna will do a decent job with that, either. No IndyCar streaming = no IndyCar for a growing percentage of TV viewers. But that's OK with me -- who needs to watch the Penske Parades, anyway?

On the topic of the month of May, realistically in the modern day I don't think it's plausible to have two whole weeks of time trials unfortunately. Indy GP exists as a good excuse to stay at the track for most of the month. But if we're doing the on track idea for the entire month, what about instead of moving the Indy GP up to Week 1, how about they race at Lucas Oil? Stays close to the track, and sorta makes it where you have a build up to the race, where you got a short track, a road course, then the big superspeedway, while keeping it all in Speedway, Indiana. That seems like a modern solution to justify the entire month of May being at Indy to me.

What will happen to Imsa racing on NBC TV since Indy is going to Fox?
@Trainlover19956 ай бұрын
IndyCar can't really fill the gaps on their schedule because NASCAR is gatekeeping the major ovals from them out of pure spite for their continued existence. NASCAR views IndyCar as their greatest competitor, and wants them to fail so all of the sponsors will come to NASCAR like they did in the 90s and 2000s.

Toughest issue for me is a personal problem. It's that we are a cable cutting family and I only spend 5.99/mo for Peacock. If I'm not able to watch the races live, I will need to subscribe to cable/Hulu Live/KZbinTV in order to set a DVR. I won't be abandoning my favorite series, it's just going to be more costly for me.
@tom_hoots6 ай бұрын
I got rid of cable TV because there was almost NOTHING on that I cared to watch. I tried KZbin TV, and gosh golly -- it's the same problem. Dozens or hundreds of channels, and there might be one episode per week of anything that's worth watching. NOT WORTH THAT KIND OF MONEY. Now I'll have to go back to that just to get IndyCar? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. I'll just watch the highlight videos on KZbin after each race.

This is great for Indycar, but my concern is that after 2025 FOX may try to push more and more races onto FS1 or maybe even FS2. I don't have cable/satellite and I'm never buying it again. I'm also not going to pay $50+ a month to watch Indycar on a paywalled streaming service. I hope that one day (if the TV deal becomes less favorable) Indycar would consider moving away from traditional TV networks and possibly stream the races live. Maybe for free with Ads and have a paywalled Ad-free service. Streaming races for free would not only bring in a lot more viewership, but also a lot more younger viewers. Increased viewership and a younger demographic would be great for helping the teams secure sponsors.

Perhaps ticket combos for St. Pete and Homestead so they could be back to back? Edit: Perhaps if Indycar is forced to be stuck with a 6 month timespan to have their season due to contractual issues, then they should really embrace the Internet(and steaming, and start looking more seriously at what possible options can be done for video games. As important as history is to Indycar, any games should embrace that as well.

David I understand better the importance of this new tv deal. However, there are fans who live in areas that are not served by broadcast tv networks. The only way that tv is available in my area is either cable, satellite dish, or internet streaming. Antennas are not an option in my area unless you have a tower with a monster antenna on it. If fox can offer there coverage on an affordable platform similar to peacock I would consider this good.

As a european fan, i hate the short season and actually like this new deal, because maybe Eurosport can get one too! The short season is kind of a bummer, seeing that most series here run until early-mid october like the DTM, but no huge gaps which is good! (SBK has a 2 month gap this year, imagine that) Gateway during the day is great, so i'll be watching it live.

As a fan for over 50 years, I'm cautiously optimistic about the TV deal. Yes, there are gaps in the schedule and I hope in 2026 they can fix it with more racing. It would be cool to bring Phoenix back. That was a tradition before Indy for years. If they can build the audience next year, maybe new markets will emerge.

With Indycar heading to FOX, it does ponder what's going to happen with NBC going into the future. They'll have spare budget to use on their other prospects. One that comes to mind is IMSA because while not having been announced yet, it's likely NBC will renew their contract with IMSA after this season ends. If they renew, NBC could put more races on network TV instead of cable. Also, will there be more promotion of the races as there hardly is any promotion for IMSA races ATM. However, this does bring a big question: Is NBC going to turn their IMSA coverage into hyping up the NASCAR coverage when the NBC portion of the cup series starts in August next year? Plus, what's going to happen with the current on air talent as most of the staff (Pit reporters and commentators) aren't experts in sports car racing? Yes, NBC streams the races on peacock and uses imsa radio for some of the support series, but they geoblock all of the Pilot Challenge and WeatherTech races imsa live streams on their KZbin channel. Plus, they don't show practice and only show qualifying outside of the races. Big questions need to be addressed should NBC renew their IMSA TV deal
@matthewsallman17006 ай бұрын
I don't bother with NBC or USA for IMSA. I don't want to worry about where does the coverage go next hour. I just watch the whole thing on Peacock. I like Peacock, I have watched IndyCar, IMSA, and Tour de France on it.

For the Barber date in May, Easter is April 20, and I would presume NASCAR Talladega is April 27. I still would prefer Barber to be in Early April because Alabama is quite warm even in May. They may not want to compete with the Masters as well.

I live about 2 hours from where the TV Antennas are located. Even with a 50ft tower. The signal is terrible. Its a good suggestion for people who live in less rural areas. I am an IndyCar fan. I never fell in love with NASCAR the way I love IndyCar. And for many years now I only watch the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. I don't watch much TV. I loved that Peacock was very affordable and allowed me to watch races after work on Sundays. I know there are going to be alternatives. But I doubt they will allow me to watch races after the fact. And I know the options are going to cost me 4-10 times what I pay now to watch IndyCar. Then add in that all the street races are extremely boring and there are hardly any ovals left on the schedule. I might step away and just watch the Indy500 and forget about the rest of the season. I know the world is driven by money. But I see this deal hurting IndyCar in the long run. The NASCAR vibe is going to leak into IndyCar more than it already has. And the cost will drive most of us who just wanted to watch a few races without it being a passion to watch racing due to the massive increase in cost.

Feels like good news, feels too good to be true as well. In the short run, if IndyCar uses this for good growth, I think they'll be okay. If it doesn't hit off the bat, I worry about races getting dropped a couple of years in. Look forward to seeing what this looks like. As long as IMS Productions is involved, it won't be an utter shitshow as far as quality goes.

I would like to see them get an international guy to do the broadcasts. Indy is such an international series these days and the broadcasters need to have a working knowledge base of global Motorsport. We don’t need people having no idea who or what SVG is and how to say his name when he’s charging through the field in his first race that they’ve seen of him.
