Betty Ong is a brave hero for calling for help when she knew it would likely get her killed if the terrorists caught her. When they lost contact with her, my heart dropped. It was too soon for flight 11 to have struck the building yet, so I wonder if they caught her on the phone. I can't imagine the terror that she would have been in.

I'll never forget waking up for school and just watching it confused. I got on the bus and half of it was empty cause their parents kept them home. My 7th grade English teacher had the news on and all we did was watch the news that whole first period. She was a very strict and intimidating teacher but on that day she just sat and watched in shock along with the rest of us.

To all the people blaming ATC for bad communication, you clearly do not understand the timeline of these events unfolding. Most of this communication was happening simultaneously. And not necessarily in the order in which the video presents it. The first two planes were hijacked around the same time, it wasn't 30-40 mins later as the video might suggest. Use your head.

These controllers were thrown into the deep end all at the same time and were never to guess that 4 planes were gonna be hijacked in the space of an hour in their airspace

Retired Air Traffic Controller here. Thanks for posting. Very chilling. I was supposed to be flying that day in the cockpit with the pilots. My coworker wouldn't swap days off so I couldn't get my trip to workout. Glad it didn't. I ended up keeping my vacation day off which was 9/11 and woke up to all this at home. My sympathy for all who worked that day. I know that was hard on all of them. To all who lost someone, my heart goes out to you. 😪❤

I know. I can't believe it's been 21 years. I'll never forget that day in the city. And the week that followed. It was just heart wrenching. Totally solemn, quiet, no one was out, people just crying, hugging eachother, depressed, the energy was piercing. Firemen and cops on the trains finishing a day downtown. Covered in soot, ash, dirt, blood, just looking absolutely exhausted. I shook a few firemens hands thanking them for their efforts. My dad worked in bldg 11. AND he was in a wheel chair. When the first plane hit, his bldg was evacuated immediately so everyone got out. But my dad knew to get as far away from the site as possible. He was an architect and a contractor. He helped build the towers so he knew that they were loaded with asbestos building materials. All the search and rescue dogs were dead in under 6 months. Many responders have died and those still living most likely have medical conditions forced into retirement.

I was working for Delta this day. It was insane how much confusion there was. How many times the stories changed at first about what happened, what kind of aircraft, which airlines were involved etc. And then going outside about 2 hours later to hear zero noise at one of the world's busiest airports. We'll never forget.

We lived in the flight path of phl it was silent for the extent of the time. My son inlaw was in WDW and couldn’t leave his resort or get a flight out so he and his friends rented a car and drove home to NJ. I was working in a bank in SJ my kids were with my husband at his office and We didn’t know what was going on till my son called on my cell and said planes hit the twin towers and the the cell dropped off and only could use a landlines😮.

It’s amazing how used to the ambient noise of air traffic we are until it stops. I was working at a very busy car dealership in St. Louis that day and it was so quiet it was surreal. Not one plane except the occasional F-15 group. It happened again in my area back in 2012 and there was no news or information about why but my wife’s coworker was on an Air Force base nearby and there was a lockdown but no reason given. I still don’t know what it was to this day 11 years later. It felt just like 9/11 and it worried me so much.

I’ll never forget waking up in Australia as a 10 year old to the news. At that moment my Dad walked In the door from night shift, weeping. He worked for a U.S company. They’d stopped the factory that night, and watched it transpire live on the big tv’s in the cafeteria start to finish, nothing to be heard in the silence but grown Aussie men sobbing. Dad told us we may need to send donations over of clothing, toys- it was still unclear if half of Manhattan had been flattened along with the towers. We dutifully each lined up some of our best toys and put them in Dad’s car, certain he could somehow take them across the Atlantic to America in his Ford Falcon.

I remember being alone watching the late night news in Australia, when the broadcast was interrupted with the live footage of the first plane "accident",.. then watching the 2nd plane hit live... then I was awake all night watching the horror unfold until 11am the next day.. in tears, wanting to help somehow & not knowing how... Years later when I was in NYC at ground zero I remarked to an American lady that I couldn't get over the complete & utter kindness of strangers toward me the whole time I was in NYC (carrying my heavy suitcases up & down subway stairs, asking me if I needed help everywhere I went before I even knew I was lost, returning my lost items, just having my back).. I told her I'd always heard the "rude" New Yorker stereotype my whole life, & was shocked to find the opposite. In her loud NY accent she replied "Oh Yee-ah! People USED to be like that here, but that all changed after 9/11. People really started lookin' out for each other y'know..." I was suddenly overcome with so much pride for all the American people who let it make them better rather than bitter... that something good could come from something so awful.. and whilst it's typically Aussie humour to be amused at loud displays of "American Pride", I kept hearing my heart say "God Bless you America". It still does. I pray that without tragedy, may you all be this UNITED again..

I guess because it shows just how hopeless they were. I can’t fathom my best option in a moment would be to jump like that. Horrific. With that said, I think the person above who said there are worse things, was possibly referring to bad things that can happen outside of the 911 scenario. For example, as horrifying as it would be to have to jump from those burning towers, I’d rather have to do that than experience the loss of one of my children. So, I suppose, depending on the person, there are indeed worse things that can happen.

They wanted to put people in one of the most intense and horrific situations possible where escape was basically impossible, and it was just pure torture. Being on the hi jacked planes and looking out the window and seeing NY city was definitely extremely terrifying, but still not as bad as what the people in the towers around and above the impact felt. Any time someone would jump to their death that fast shows you how dire and horrific their situation must have been. We heard some phone calls, but there were definitely people in much worse situations and likely people burned alive. RIP to all of those that died that day other than the terrorists.

@@garyolsen4160 - I was talking about how this comment section brought together a diverse group of people, all wanting to build each other up and stand in solidarity. 9/11 was an event that was supposed to make us hate each other, yet the comments here show that there is still empathy and compassion amidst animosity. I judge people on an individual basis, not as a group. Every group of anything has extremists. However, while being far more public, most people do not follow such extreme ideologies. Most are your average person just trying to live their lives as well as they can. I was 10, too. I remember that day so well. I was in my 5th grade math class when my teacher got a phone call that sent her into tears. She turned on the TV and put the news on. Next thing we all know, we are being told to go home and that our parents were coming. When I got home, my mom, dad and I stood right in front of the TV in absolute horror....crying and covering our mouths in shock as the towers fell...it was horrible. Conversations between ATC and planes always ask "how many souls ? How much fuel ?" And the monitoring pilot answers with the number of passengers (souls) + crew .... fuel ... So "souls" is just the way

I'm inclined toward the latter view, that the system that they had to navigate in order to convey the information to the right people was disorganized. There may also have been technical problems, which could help explain some problems with intelligibility for example. Having no special knowledge, though, I could possibly be giving too much benefit of the doubt. I just personally don't want to prematurely blame the individuals involved in this coordination problem.

This is always so surreal to listen to. It’s amazing how many controllers can remain composed during something like this. It was easy to hear “MAYDAY!” from Flight 93 and screaming/struggling, followed by what sounds like hijackers sending transmissions. Handling this entire situation required so much individual coordination and heroism….and that’s an understatement. America was broken but also united as one that day. We need to remember this.

My husband was working as an air traffic controller in Portland, Oregon that morning. I was finishing up a night shift as a nurse. I was a little glum as 9/11/01 was my son’s 19th birthday-his first away from home as he had just started college in Texas and I was missing him. The day shift nurses started coming in, saying “turn on the TV”. Just then my husband called me at work (something he NEVER did) and told me that he was staying late as they were landing every plane in the country as quickly as possible. I passed this on to my co-workers who said that this can’t be true, it would be unimaginably difficult. But they did it very rapidly. I have seen a video of the radar that morning and it is eerie as the little blips disappear. I went home to sleep. When I awakened I was told that a building had collapsed. I remember thinking “I guess it wasn’t a dream”.

I was in nyc in a meeting in a conference room at 8:40am when the first plane hit the World Trade Center. I watched the second plane hit from our office balcony at 35th st. We had colleagues staying at a hotel outside the Pentagon who described hearing the plane fly overhead before crashing. I went into a kind of depression for at least six months after September 11. This recording came up in my suggestions and it really takes one back to the events of the day. The shocking horror of it all. The coming together too. What a very dark thing to have happened. However, as a private pilot, listening to these transmissions and radio calls really give me a feel of what kind of horror went on that day from an aviation perspective. Flight 93 was a flight that a friend was captain on - but he was off for medical reasons and was not working. He used to commute to San Francisco from Seattle to make that trip, and he loved that flight. Every time I hear these recordings, I think of him. He was a fabulous pilot and wonderful person. To be clear, these radio transmissions are more chaos than one would think. Protocols and communications were modified following 9/11 in order to avoid duplication and misinformation. That said, they did as good a job as they could do given the circumstances. Bless them for their service.

I remember this day as if it happened yesterday, absolutely an unimaginable event that the entire airline’s community, pilots, companies, controllers, NORAD, attendants, passengers, etc all performed to the very best of their abilities as professionals and hero’s. My sincere thoughts, prayers and my utmost respect for all involved in this tragic situation and sincere sympathies to all those who lost their loved ones. No doubt we are much safer in 2023 and certainly more prepared. I was 21 years old and was in Canada on a fishing trip with some of the finest first responders I have worked with in my career when this all happened. We were so remote in Canada and technology still so limited at that time that by the time we even knew it happened it was already over. Thousands of American lives lost, 343 of the finest first responders included in that and a day that will never ever be forgotten. I spent 10 years as a 911 dispatcher and can tell you that the feeling they were having was that of being useless. You know you have a shit ton of emergencies going on, you have to remain calm, you have to remain clear and concise as everyone else out there needed them. I have never worked a hijack or dealt with anything of this magnitude but I can understand it to a degree. This is what true trained professionals do daily all over this world that most people overlook. From the radio dispatchers to the pilots, controllers, to the military, to people like flight attendant Betty Ong who tried her best to help this in any way she could America appreciates everthing you did and tried to do. You fought the best fight you could with what you had to work with. God bless you all!

I was a 411 operator for AT&T over in Denver, Colorado. When the cell towers fell along with the World Trade Center Twin Towers. Lots of calls were diverted from New York City and Philadelphia to our call center. I remember I was a month into a deployment for Intrinsic Action 01-07 with the 1st ID "Big Red One" out of Ft. RILEY in Kuwait when this happened, and watching this on the Allied network station when the first plane hit the WTC. The scope of our operations went from standby to full alert and crossing the border into Iraq. To this day this still hurts so bad listening to this knowing how it played out. Yes, I think there were a lot of political protests, and also people who may have had legal problems and needed to get back to their own country where they would be treated sympathetically. When we landed, the hijackers were arrested and then we all sat around the airport in Cuba for hours while they checked out the plane. I remember being so upset we went back to Miami and had to talk to the FBI, because we were supposed to be going to Disney!

But also, those hijackings to Cuba were extremely common from the late 60’s through the 80’s. Back then of course no screening, people could walk up to your gate to see you off or welcome you, and you often walked across the tarmac to the stairs to board your plane. I felt worse for my parents as we were on that flight last minute and scattered all over the plane. A super nice lady sitting next to me made a point of distracting me by showing me an album of her show dogs. My dad was a career diplomat and we all carried diplomatic passports, which violent hijackers would have loved. He would have been a great bargaining chip or used for public threats. But these guys just wanted to go home.

On this day, aviation was never the same again. I remember going through Air Force boot camp in 2008, my MTI told us what it was like after the planes hit the towers. He was newish to MTI job and he said he was like 2-3 hours late to work every day. The lines to get on base were backed up. Security forces had .50 caliber machine gun nests spread throughout every gate entry pointing directly at every car wanting to enter. If you wanted to prank the gate, that day was not the day to do it.

I was 17 and a senior in high school when this happened. I remember exactly where I was that day. I lived about 40 miles from the Flight 93 crash site. We heard at first that the plane crashed at a large hotel in the area. They later corrected that and verified the flight crashed in Shanksville. It’s near Somerset, PA, literally in the middle of nowhere. The plane flew over my town. My aunt and uncle saw it flying erratically over their house. They saw the numbers. All of the hospitals in the area were put on alert, and all emergency crews were sent there. My mom had to be lifeflighted that day due to having a heart attack. When they found there were no survivors, they dispatched one of the flight crews to take my mom. They had to get FAA clearance to fly, and they debated about it a few times. It was literally up and down for a few minutes. They made it to where my mom needed to be, but they were grounded after that. My mom was literally the only civilian in the air after the planes were grounded. It’s weird to think about how close we were to the terrorism in a little small town in Western Pennsylvania. It could’ve been me and my family and friends. You’d think more about it happening in the cities, but not in small town America. It’s crazy. I’ve been to the crash site. The way they memorialized the victims was just something. I also believe in divine intervention. Nobody on the ground was killed due to that crash. The only nearby buildings were a couple of houses that were maybe about a mile away. It’s like it’s holy ground, and it definitely feels like a sacred place. Those people were heroes.

After the heroic air traffic controllers grounded all the planes, civilians had to figure out what to do next. My brother worked at HQ for a large, national company. He was in charge of coordinating travel. With everyone landing where they weren't planning to, everyone wanted a rental car, and of course, the rental companies didn't have enough cars for this kind of event. He was making phone calls, finding out who had a car, and could they swing by another city/state and pick up so-and-so, who was stranded without a car, and bring them home. It took several hours to do, but everyone ended up with a plan to get back. This was perhaps one of the only times no one traveling complained about being inconvenienced. They were just glad to be on the ground and alive.

Two pals of ours drove back to LA from NY that day after managing to get a rental car pretty quickly after planes were grounded. They keep in touch to this day and said it was like driving home in a long funeral procession. They actually bought a CB radio at a truck stop and used it all the way. Blessings and peace. I was in the air on a flight from Tulsa Oklahoma to Los Angeles California on 9/11 during the "attacks". I remember the plane turned left then it turned right then it turned left again. I got scared because I knew that wasn't normal and I was already afraid of flying at that time. Pilot came on the loudspeaker and said, "we have to land because of a problem in the pressurization system". We proceeded to land in Albuquerque New Mexico instead of Los Angeles. When we landed the captain came back on and said, "I'm captain (so and so), the man who lied to you. We will be getting off the plane now and you will hear about the events that have transpired in our country...".

I had been working for AA reservations for one year, and was on my way to work in DFW across from the FAA building in Arlington. I had a 6 month old at home. I took calls for four hours before I lost composure and had to go home. So many scared people trying to locate their loved ones. It still weighs heavy on my soul.

I'm currently at 1:13 in the recording, and for at least the last 15 minutes the information is being passed around that it wasn't Flight 11 that crashed into the first tower and it is still in the air somewhere. In hindsight, we all know now exactly what happened, but listening to this really brings home the utter confusion of what was happening in real time. All those different air traffic controllers, officials, dispatchers, military, the flight attendants, trying to share information but not really having a clue what was going on. I always think what an awful day that was, but until I heard this, I really didn't realize what a horrible day it was for all these other people that were truly involved.

They were doubting it was AA 11 for hours - the media was reporting it was a small plane in the first tower, commercial jet in the second tower. There was a report that someone saw AA 11 which threw off ATC & the company for a long time before they realized it was a false or inaccurate report. I was working at the Capitol building that day on the House side/Lobby/Gallery as a uniformed officer (now retired). We heard about the first attack via the TV that was on in the House Lobby. After the Pentagon was hit, I walked out of the House door on the East front and saw the smoke billow into the air from the attack. We then saw a huge aircraft with a white belly fly directly over our building. The Capitol's Inspector issued orders over the radio to evacuate the building (we didn't know at the time that the airplane was US military; we thought the worst). Her superior denied the evacuation, but she went ahead with it anyway, and Congressional staff ran out of the building. She had strength, and, after that day, our respect. Listening to these tapes and watching video is still heart breaking to this day.

My husband’s twin niece and nephew were supposed to fly on flight 11 but ended up missing the flight because his niece started having a panic attack out of nowhere and she had to be seen by medical at the airport. She had never had that happen before. When we found out what happened, we were freaking out cause we thought they were killed. And because all the phones were jammed with people trying to find out information, they weren’t able to call their mom for hours!!! My poor my poor sister in law was freaking out because there was so much misinformation for the first few hours as to which airline had struck the towers and the pentagon so it was truly a nightmare. 5 hours later she finally got a call from my niece and she told her why they weren’t on the plane. Talk about raw emotions. Our family felt so conflicted because we were grieving their loss and then so overwhelmed with joy that they missed the flight but then we felt SO much grief for the families of those who perished. I can’t believe it’s been an entire generation that has past since that sad day. And a lot of those kids don’t even know about it. It’s never been part of a history class in public schools and that makes me so mad! This generation needs to know what happened on that day and the hero’s! I don’t have any clue WHY it’s not being taught or talked about in schools. It’s a travesty in my opinion and a total disrespect to those who sacrificed their lives to save others! I STILL pray every day for the families of those who perished and I still watch the first documentary from the Naudet brothers every year on the anniversary to make sure I never forget the bravery of that day.

I live in NY. My kids are 20 & 22. I do know that 9/11 was taught in their high school. In fact I think they actually watched some of the footage in class too. I’ll never forget what I was doing that day. My oldest had just turned 1 and I was a stay at home mom. I was talking to my mom on the phone and had the tv on in the background. I remembering seeing the first plane hit and thinking that it was ‘just’ an awful accident. Then the second one hit. I told my mom to turn on her TV. I remember being glued to the TV (because the internet wasn’t really a thing) and going through a roller coaster of emotions. For those of us who lived through 9/11, at least for people in the US, our lives changed that day. I remember being sad, scared and just had a general feeling of vulnerability that I hadn’t felt before. It definitely opened my eyes to terrorism in the world but I’m pretty sure our response since 9/11 really hasn’t made us any safer. I think we have more enemies now and their smarter, wealthier, and have even bigger weapons than a plane.

I would agree this should be taught in every school. This was my first “you know where you were” when this happened. I had just got to work that morning. Shortly there someone said a plane crashed into the WT center. We went to the cafeteria becuz we knew there was a TV. I went back to my desk and called my mom after several attempts becuz I couldn’t get through. As I was talking to her about the news she said she was watching and was shocked. Within a minute she sighed so loud and said OMG! I asked what happened, she said another plane hit the 2nd tower on live TV. I remember her saying “this is a deliberate attack on the USA.” I left work shortly and I remember driving home from work. It was a sunny day and weather was nice enough to drive home with windows open. At the stop light, all I could hear was people’s AM news radio stations. It was such an eerie day. I felt lost and numb that day.

I was an active private pilot at this time. I was at home, wasn't planning on flying so I just watched. I woke up to the WTC on TV. Listening to this is fascinating to me, the confusion and the terror. I felt so bad for the controllers who were helpless to prevent anything. I was happy to get back in the air but I was not based at an air carrier airport, so there was little danger. Just the same, I carried a gun for a month when I flew.

9/11 changed my work for years after that. I worked at an air force base and the next day after, the base was locked down so tight it took me 4 hours to get through the gate so I could get to my work place. Nothing was ever the same at work after that. Longer hours, non stop overtime, shifts staggered so people could get on base quicker due to security measures. Barricades were put up all over the place at the gates. The ripple effect that one event can have on the lives of others is mind boggling.

How much of the reaction do you feel was unnecessary? I'm thinking back to when COVID first hit... Seeing big sheets of Plexi glass in stores with holes in them, or people wearing face shields made for liquid splashes to keep other people's air away from them... Seems like the way of our country (or minds in general) is when something bad happens, we try to fix it by making sure it never happens again instead of making sure it never happens in the first place. Of course that would mean these horrific events would have had to be expected and planned for by otherwise good people. Anyway, too many bandaids and not enough knee pads.

The controller who impressed me the most was the one who vectored all the traffic away from Flight 93. Awesome job. I am an ATC, but was off work that day. I was based in OK then, but now in TX. It wasn’t just commercial aircraft who were grounded. All general aviation was too.

Just of curiosity, how could Boston Center tell that American Airlines Flight 11 was descending near Manhattan? I'm nether a pilot nor controller, but I've listened to just about everything related to 9/11. After the hijackers turned the transponders, the planes was only tracked with primary radar, which apparent doesn't give altitude information. Since they don't know the altitude, can they determine that the plane is changing altitude by speed? I was wonder because wouldn't it be the same if they were climbing?

I'm a nurse and worked swing shift. My phone awakened me but I missed the call. I had radio on and heard something described as a bizarre radio "story". Half asleep I turned on television to the twin towers burning. Listened and check all stations showing same LIVE picture. I was shocked and dumbfounded. Phone rang again. My best friend called crying and asked me if I knew. All I could say, "I'm watching." My eyes welled up and my throat tightened. I was in shock at was unfolding before my eyes. When I had initially heard the radio I thought it was a ORSON WELLS type radio story. Horrific and unbelievable. I screamed when I saw the plane televised crashing into one of the Twin towers. My friend on phone,.. I told her thank you for calling. I was speechless. I sat in shock and mesmerized by the television accounts unfolding. To this day I vividly remember the news. I couldn't move until it was time for me to go to work. Work was surreal. Our shift had been affected by this. One nurse her fiancee worked in TT. He was accounted for alive later into shift. Such a sad day for America and its people.

I was teaching 8th grade at the time in New York State not far from PA. Our superintendent sent an email saying to continue as usual, but I had spent my planning and lunch watching the towers collapse and couldn’t act as if it was business as usual. I saw the fear in my students eyes and decided to throw out my plans and let them talk and and ask questions and know that I was afraid too, but my job was to keep them safe and told them I would do whatever I could to make sure they were. Inside I too was terrified and I didn’t breathe until the last student went home. It is very interesting for me to hear of the experiences of people who could have been my students.

I will never ever forget this day. I was driving to work early as we always had our Management meetings on Tuesdays. I was in shock and almost numb. I arrived at work and we sat and cried and said a blessing. I sent everyone home and immediately drove back home to take my kids out of school and take them home. I was a 411 operator for AT&T over in Denver, Colorado. When the cell towers fell along with the World Trade Center Twin Towers. Lots of calls were directed from New York and Philadelphia to our call center. It was an emotional time for all of us trying to console callers when we needed consoling too.

Can I ask where you’re from? And what was it like where you’re from on that day? Was everyone glued to their tv’s and were the citizens talking about it? Did people go home from work or anything like that? I’ve always been curious what the feel was like outside the US. I was 13 at the time and didn’t fully understand the implications and how big a deal it was. It wasn’t until I saw videos of people from all around the world standing in silence, crying, and showing respect when I lost it the most. I couldn’t believe so many people would care. Of course now looking back it makes sense. If it happened in the UK, for example, I would’ve been just as saddened as if it was in my own country. It’s awful that it took such a horrible act to see, but so much of the world bonded on that day. It still makes me sad to think about it.

We're your neighbors here in Canada, and I have lots of friends in the US. It was the video of those terror*sts slamming into the buildings, for me, and the people falling or jumping to their deaths. Knowing what the loss of life would be, and of course being so shocked to see the buildings crumble, It was watching the people who were able to get out, turning and seeing the destruction and then bursting into tears was gut wrenching for me. I was especially saddened when the recordings of people on the planes calling their families to say good-bye came out. I mean can you imagine getting that call? And what you'd feel like, because you missed their call? I loved watching the documentaries to learn all about the heroes of that day too. I think most of the world thought the same as I did. It was such a tragedy, and such a senseless act of violence, people were sad and angry at the same time. And the fact that something like that could happen in America, it could happen anywhere!

I remember this day very well. I was crying when it happened and it still makes me cry to this day. It's been 22 years and a lot of us will never forget! These people handling the aviation logistics don't get the recognition they so much deserve. R.I.P. to all those souls we lost that day. 🇺🇸

It melts my heart listening to everyone trying and trying to step ahead, now I know you are way ahead! Lessons that sometimes can just be experienced this way I guess. I know your country is meant to be built in love, for that reason I'd like to say that not only were those who did what they could that day are heros of your country, they are our universal heros. A day that will never be forgotten as long as I'm alive. As an ex-flyer, we still see all aviators, no matter from which nation, as a global family, and may my family all be remembered with joy and happiness (zl). Our passengers were always placed in our care for the duration of their journey. This day, their fate and ours was beyond our control. For a job we were trained hard for, the realisation must have been horrific for the crew and passengers, and no training could ever prepare you for that. Tonight, over twenty years later on listening to this video, and, as I always do on the 11th September, I raise a glass to my crewmates, passengers, those on the ground and all others affected by this most hideous of events on this fateful day. It was the day the world changed. May your G-d be with you and grant you peace, irrespective of your faith.

As millennials, Our grandparents lived through World war 2, a truly biblical event. Our parents saw Vietnam and the civil rights movement although those were very different and less alarming situations. Millennials were supposed to be in for a fun ride, "The end of history". And things were going so well until this. This was a truly horrifying event, absolutely unbelievable. The destruction of the twin towers feels like a mix of the Titanic and the destruction of the Colossus of Rhodes. As a new Yorker I still burst into tears watching these videos. Every September my happy life takes a break and I start sulking and watching these and spend days crying. I'm still in disbelief at it all. The War on Terror made everything worse, and was a traumatic event in itself. And then we went through COVID, Jan. 6, our country is in such a mountain of debt, while we're facing climate crises endangering people around the world. What a world.

I vividly remember Oklahoma and columbine...but these were simply not on the same scale. 9/11 is a biblical event, if we make it 2000 years from now it will be spoken of the way we speak of Pompeii, the chain of events it sparked....COVID was as bad. Jan 6 will be in our history books and mandatory reading until the US is no more. And climate change threatens to be bigger than all the above. We'll still have more Oklahoma's and columbines in the meantime but they won't be anywhere near as existential.
