So glad to have seen this from you both. Tom Hardy did so much work to bulk up for Bane, and the adaptations from his comic book story were interesting. I hope you appreciated the stunt with the plane crash. You guys should look up some of the behind the scenes work because it's awesome. I recommend The Batman, with Robert Pattinson if you haven't seen it.

That's the thing about Catwoman, you can't really tell what side of the law she lays her paw. The good side, bad side, or perhaps the side that just best suits her. In the very early years of comics, she was of course a villain, but because of the era and the eventual Comics Code Authority, she was sidelined from 1954 - 1966. But for a few decades now she's been an antihero or an on-again/off-again hero. I'd say a lot of it has to do with if she's dating Batman or not, speaking of on-again/off-again.

Great reaction as always. And hey, Anne Hathaway is a national treasure. Ella Enchanted will always be a classic to me lol. Of course, Hans Zimmer yet again proves he does no wrong. What an amazing score. Michael Caine is one of the greatest actors I’ve witnessed. Period. His monologue at Bruce’s funeral is absolutely heartbreaking. Tom Hardy got a lot of flack for this role due to the interesting voice. I think it adds a cool dimension to the character that we wouldn’t have gotten without it. I don’t know how you thought about it, but Talia’s death scene is quite infamous because of how bad everyone thought it was. Out of all the takes you picked that one? I think even the actress thought the same as well. Again, thanks for the reaction, and excited to see what you have in store next!

I've had such a huge crush on Tom Hardy for ages, I was obsessed with him as Bane. So beefy. lol. And he filmed Lawless either just before or just after so he was still the size of a Mack truck in that even though he said he played the role "like an old lesbian" and wore cardigans the entire film hahaha

Christopher Nolan outdid himself with this trilogy! Great reaction!! That plane sequence was unlike anything I’d ever seen on the big screen! That was just insane!! And I love me some Tom Hardy!🥰 Alright for Marc’s whiskey sour and his 90 Shades of Grey faux pas!! I was like, “Alright you freak!” Kidding 🥸 I do love a good whiskey sour. The drink looked so refreshing! Especially in our Houston heat.☀️🔥 Anyway, I have not seen The Batman with Robert Pattinson but definitely want to. Terrific reaction as always!! I saw this as part of a marathon, the first two films leading directly into this release. It was definitely a long night, but amazing to see all three back to back. Honestly after finishing TDKR for the first time, I was a little disappointed, there had been so much hype for it, and I probably hyped it up too much in my head. That being said, I've watched it numerous times over the years, and I appreciate it far more than I initially did.

Nolan had always planned for 3 along with Bale, the studio may have wanted more but he wanted only 3 I think you may enjoy Spider-Man into the spider-verse and recently across the spider-verse just came out, 2 great Spider-Man movies 🎉
@DavidvsFilm
@DavidvsFilm Жыл бұрын
Ahhh ok good to know about the 3. When they left it hanging with Robin at the end, and the Bat Signal was back, I thought, “Ok this either leaves it open for another one with Dark Knight and Dark Robin lol (aka there were supposed to be potentially more films), or this is the end of the Nolan/Bale Batman series, and now Robin is assumed to take on the mantle of Batman off camera. I figured it was the latter, since there was actual dialogue about The Batman not limited to one person, but wasn’t sure.

The plane catching the plane stunt was already done in an 80s in the james bond film "licence to kill" the batman director Christopher Nolan is a big bond fan and so has incorporated some of the stunts in his movies (another one is in the previous batman film, the dark knight, when batman is hooked by a plane in China from a skyscraper... that happened at the end of the sean connery bond film "thunderball" from the 60s)

I also love that the titles are shown at the end of the movie (think 'bout ''Batman Begins'' & ''The Dark Knight''), 'cause ''The Dark Knight Rises'' actually refers to Robin as the new Dark Knight (instead of Batman's side kick). I love Marion Cotillard, but her death scene was horrible (unintentionally funny ). If you gonna watch with Marc another great action movie, watch ''Mad Max: Fury Road'' with Tom Hardy (and an incredible Charlize Theron). Another great recommendation of a movie with Tom Hardy is ''Locke'', a really intense and unique thriller with a tour-de-force performance by Hardy, written and directed by Steven Knight (who also wrote ''Dirty Pretty Things'', ''Eastern Promises'', Spencer'' with Kristen Stewart as Princess Di, ''Peaky Blinders'' & ''Taboo'' an 8 part series with Tom Hardy. First two movies are also highly recommended, haven't seen ''Spencer'' yet, but I found the dvd a couple of days ago).

Hey guys! You’re so fun to watch. Your puns have me regularly on the floor. 😂 I remember loving and enjoying this movie when I first saw it in the theater. The feels~ were strong. But truth be told, I never really go back to it, I don’t think I’ve seen it that many times after the initial release. The Dark Knight is a total opposite for me in that regard, I’ve re-watched that one countless of times. To me, personally, unlike “Rises”, The Dark Knight (2008) stood the test of time and it’s one of the best movies ever made.

I wanted to point something out. Remember - back in Batman Begins - Ra's al-Ghul's (Arabic for the Demon's Head) and Bruce Wayne's conversation at Wayne Manor about immortality. "Is he immortal," or "cheap parlor tricks to conceal his true identity?" In the comic books, Ra's (pronounced Rey-sh) is essentially immortal due to his access to what are various naturally occuring Fountains of Youth around the world - the Lazarus Pits. Let's just say that the man is ancient, and every time he's mortally wounded or near death, he's placed inside of one only to be healed and restored. And in the comic books, Bane himself WAS born in a prison, in the Caribbean nation of Santa Prisca where the corrupt government sentenced him to serve his father's prison term before he was even born because his father had died. To remain a down-to-earth comic book film, they seamlessly combined both the Lazarus Pits and the Santa Prisca prison into one. Also, I think it's quite poetic, and done beautifully here by Christopher Nolan, to turn the very science fictional/fantastical Lazarus Pits into a a real-world object and location, and - since Talia al-Ghul escaped - is it STILL playing a role in Ra's' "immortality," since having descendents/continuing bloodline is a form of immortality. It's also immortality if people - especially one's own progeny - sets out to complete the life's work of that person, and succeeds.

I was struggling to think of any more movies or tv series to suggest and then I had a WILD idea. There’s a Walking Dead videogame series which is INCREDIBLE. Now, I know this is David vs Film, not David vs Game but hear me out! They are story-focused rather than gameplay-focused, your actions affect the story, not only in the short term but also the ending and which characters live and die. If you play the games in order, your actions even carry over to the next games. It’s probably one of the most immersive experiences I’ve ever experienced and the storytelling is up there with some of the best films and tv series. The gameplay is very simple so don’t worry if you’re not a gamer because it’s essentially point and click. You could play the game in hour-long chunks and then give a small commentary at the end of every session - because your commentary is what we come here for. I know I probably haven’t convinced you but perhaps you could do a Patreon poll to see if anyone else would be interested in it?

Thanks so much for the idea Alex!! Obviously I haven’t done any game play, but I’m not opposed to the idea. And u make this one sound really cool! I watched a lot of The Walking Dead series, so I’m familiar with it, and I can see where this game could be scary/suspenseful as hell lol.

I remember going to see a movie (Ghost Protocol?) In Imax just because they had a sneak peak of this. It was the plane scene! If it hasnt been said, the plane scene was practical. I police charge gets me every time. The one cop who's scared, but shows up in dress. I know theres issues with voices and acting, and Bane story in comic is little more interesting, but I still enjoy this movie.

Bane unfolds the pages of Gordon's undelivered speech... BANE 'The truth about Harvey Dent is simple in only one regard - it has been hidden for too long. After his devastating injuries, Harvey's mind has recovered no better than his mutilated face. He was a broken, dangerous man, not the crusader for justice that I, James Gordon, have portrayed him to be for the last eight years. Harvey's rage was indiscriminate. Psychopathic. He held my family at gunpoint, then fell to his death in the struggle over my son's life. The Batman did not murder Harvey Dent - he saved my boy. Then took the blame for Harvey's appalling crimes, so that I could, to my shame, build a lie around this fallen idol.' 'I praised the madman who tried to murder my own child.' 'The things we did in Harvey's name brought desperately needed security to our streets... But I can no longer live with my lie. It is time to trust the people of Gotham with the truth, and it is time for me to resign.'

I consider this the weakest of the trilogy but by no means bad. All trilogies must logically have a 'weakest' entry. Most of its sins arise from trying to do too much in one film, covering both the Knightfall and No Man's Land arcs from the comics. Maybe it could have benefitted from being split into two at the point of Batman's defeat to Bane, but I respect Nolan for not resorting to that crassness.

"Deshi basara! Deshi basara!" "What does that mean?" "Rise." This movie is a disaster. The pacing and editing is inconsistent. Characters act completely in congress when compared to the other two movies. The worldbuilding is non-existent. The themes and allegories make no sense. And plot contrivances stretch the suspension of disbelief to the breaking point, multiple times. This is Christopher Nolan's worst movie to date. Tom Hardy's Bane is the best thing about this movie. You can subjectively enjoy this movie, but it is objectively a terrible movie at every level. Fun Fact: The final chase sequence before the bombing, where the countdown of the time-bomb is eleven minutes, is depicted in real-time. Becoming Bane Fact: Tom Hardy accepted the role of Bane without reading the script. He was verbally told that he would have unprecedented access to extensive stunt training and equipment that he could enjoy knocking around. To prepare for his role as Bane, Tom Hardy gained thirty pounds and studied various fighting styles. Tom Hardy has several large tattoos on his chest and arms that had to be covered using heavy cake make-up for this movie. Tom Hardy, standing at 5'9", had to wear three-inch lifts to make his character Bane appear as tall, or taller than co-stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, and Sir Michael Caine. Bane's theme is the "deshi basara" chant, which really is "rise" in Moroccan. Becoming Catwoman Fact: Anne Hathaway has revealed that during her audition, she thought that she was auditioning for the Joker's on again-off again girlfriend/partner-in-crime Harley Quinn. It was only after she had a discussion with Christopher Nolan that she found out that she was auditioning for Catwoman. Anne Hathaway has said that she was a complete nervous wreck after her audition. The first time her agent phoned after her screentest, he said he had good news and asked if Hathaway was sitting down. Hathaway immediately screamed "I'm Catwoman!" and ran around the room in a frenzy. Unfortunately, her agent had to calm Hathaway down. He had called to let her know that she'd been invited to host the Academy Awards. Hathaway has said she was so shocked she went numb at the offer. Fortunately, shortly thereafter, her agent phoned again to let her know that she had been offered the part of Catwoman as well. To prepare for her role as Catwoman, Anne Hathaway worked out five days a week on a regimen that involved vigorous exercise, stunt training, and dancing. She called it her most physically demanding role to date.

As usual thank you SO MUCH for the trivia! I enjoyed each one of these tidbits of info. Especially the one about the 11 minutes- I really do love those kinds of elements in movies. One thing I'll say about this movie that honestly surprised both Marc and me is that we did not get up to use the restroom once. That is highly unusual ESPECIALLY for a movie this long. So plot holes and thematic problems aside, at least it entertained us enough to keep our seats lol

Yeah, you can still get enjoyment out of even terrible movies. I love plenty of terrible movies and I loathe a few well made movies. And on balance, this movie is at least watchable. Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
