Thank you for sharing. This is hands down, the best tutorial on real world multi-cam editing in Davinci. Your process is clean and answers many questions like, "how to color grade a multi-cam project efficiently". I look forward to seeing more.

Was so bizare that I went to bed thinking "I'll download Davinchi Resolve on my iPad to learn it a little", then woke up the next morning to see this in my subs! Glad I had the chance to sit down and watch, thanks for making this!

Hey that's awesome! I haven't spent too much time with the iPad version but it's great you can get started with it. I think my iPad Pro is 4 years old and it still crushes everything I throw at it. Pretty crazy honestly.

Great video! I love using Davinci Resolve! And my tip is if your serious about using Davinci Resolve, upgrade to the studio version. You have more plug-ins (like deflicker) and pro features like HDR, 120 fps & 32K video (probably for video walls).

This is great. Personally, one thing I do to simplify this workflow is that for any composite angles in the multicam I just build a compound clip with the camera angles I want to use and place that as a new angle. The compound clip acts similarly to a multicam clip, but the preview renders more consistently and you don't run into the caveats of using nested multicams which can create some annoying audio organization issues. Not necessarily faster, but simpler down the line in my experience.
@TeftyTeft Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I believe I tried compound clips before but I ran into the same issue where I couldn't nest a compound clip into the original multi-cam timeline if it referenced that multi-cam timeline before. So I'd either have to resync everything for each compound clip OR create a new 'Angles' multi that'd house everything all syncd up.
@avdpost Жыл бұрын
@TeftyTeft Fair point, they can't be referenced recursively. I guess I just ensure the embedded compound media is synced to itself (timecode helping here too since you can sync timecode in a timeline or compound clip) and I just make sure the compound clip is synced the rest of the footage in the multicam manually. The only advantage being I'm not opening up a can of worms later when doing other resizes for other exports or accidentally introducing scaling errors, since multicams can occasionally introduce problems theirin. But you're right, with the double nested multicam sequence you can refernce a master sync map multicam for overlays or supersource layouts. I could also see an argument to test the sync bin tools in the cut page to try to simplify the editing side of things too assuming the timecode is reliable. Regardless thank you for sharing. In the end your method keeps everything non-destructive.
@TeftyTeft Жыл бұрын
Agreed! I'd say if the edit is a fairly simple interview style multi-cam, then the cut page wins easily with the sync bin. I found that my sessions involving lots of different angles, plus a computer screen, and audio sync'd from a zoom recorder ended up having problems when I wanted to adjust things after the A roll was edited down from an hour+ recording session. Typically we don't know exactly what comps we need until after the first edit of the A roll. I actually thinks it's great that there's multiple ways to approach these situations in Resolve. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@avdpost Жыл бұрын
Very good point. I typically am editing multicam interviews that aren't mixing comps, just strick multiple cameras. But if need an alternate angle or a punch in I'll just duplicate and apply the zoom inside the multicam. And if I need to comp out a boom mic etc, i'll still lean on using a compound clip. But this method is something I haven't really seen in Resolve, so thanks agian for sharing the concept nesting multicams. Or another way to put it, build a multicam sync map, lock that in, then build the multicam from it.@@TeftyTeft
@DVR-Film Жыл бұрын
Why do you don´t use the synck bin in the cut pages. It is way easier and you have the clips on top of each other,
@TeftyTeft Жыл бұрын
Couple reasons. Firstly I prefer the ability to select any clip on the timeline and switch angles directly in the clip after the first pass. Often times we'll edit A roll first and then do an angles pass afterwards. And we usually don't know what comps we need until after the A roll pass. Secondly, if we build comps, then then sync bin/on top of each other method becomes a hassle when managing longer timelines (like an hour). So I've found it easier to build the original multi-cam sync, and then build the comps from that and organize in an 'Angles' multi for the edit. Bonus reason, coloring/adjusting/changing anything related to the original multi-cam sync timeline clips will reflect changes to everything from the comps and final edits. If we were just doing interview style edits, then the cut page would be faster IMO, but less flexible after the fact.
