Same, but in my setting Orcs are border line horde enemies. A scout party could be anything from 4 or 6 orc grunts, a Raiding party+camp could be anything between 20 to 80 orcs and then Warbands often are around the 200. So now I've trained my players to treat orcs like a serious threat, no individually but in groups as the Orc in charge is either the most cunning or the strongest amongst them and 60% orcs will offer the chance for the party to hand over a "fee" to let them on their way. I've created my own stats for orcs mostly the same from 5e but different variants like Runts, Grunts, Warriors, Raider, Ravager, War Chief, Warlord and WarMaster.

Dope idea. Hell, if you want to, you can actually make a half-orc character that is half-orc and half-halfling. You'd have the same stats as a regular half-orc, but your height is shorter than the average half-orc. It might be interesting to have as a twist, where you and the party thinks this isn't the case after a good few sessions in, despite you initially believing you are a halfling or part halfling. Just when everyone's accepted that your half-orc doesn't have halfling blood (your PC included), the DM reveals that the mayor's husband had an affair with an orc woman many years ago and that you are the result of this relationship. His wife might not have found out, but being the mayor's husband, he could pull some strings that made you a part of the community.

orcs are some of my favourite monsters, with demons and yuan-ti. I especially love Yurtrus and Shargaas. Entire tribes of Yurtrus are really fun to use, and can be used if you want to include a disease into your game. Shargaas is cool too, just a bunch of goths, like a group of 15 year old tumblr users outside of the Donna Kebab shop. Making new orc gods are fun too

Luthic actually really intrigues me as a goddess. This video and reading comments reminds me of my orc bard- his dad was shunned by his tribe due to being "weak" a.k.a. actually intelligent and acting normal & not a raiding brute who's always battling. Soo he went and opened a hotel + tavern that became a city's landmark and my bard was a baby when this happened, but at least he's a clone of his dad thank orc gods. I would've made him half orc but it just doesn't "fit" right.

I'm fine with the stat negatives, it gives something to go with roleplaying-wise. Unless you're going for an Orc Wizard then you're really just wanting it for various knowledge-style checks and for saves, and there's not too many INT saves. You could honestly just roll 5 stats instead of 6 and just give your orc 8 INT and be done.

I once played an orc who was was smarter than your average orc and just decided to walk out a set up a nice cabin along the road warning travelers of the orcish presence and offering to guide them through the mountains in exchange for giving anyone they coming through the mountains good word about him and typically trading hides and thus he became a folk hero guiding caravans through the mountains safely and trading valuable hides for things he needed

I once had an antagonist Orc who was actualy quite wise. He had a wyvern mount and he wanted to unite the ork tribes and ensure orc dominance. He was a pretty cool guy and had respect for the party as they had bested his most talented generals. He managed to get betrayed by his own tribe and became a helpful npc in the follow up campaign.

Lmao, I find it funny how all of you are complaining about a simple -2 to intelligence in 5e. I play 3.5 mostly, and let me tell you, I'd played official races that had a -6 to stats. Not to mention, all races except for Humans and Half-Elves have a -2 to something, so finding Kobolds and Orcs with a -2 to a stat was perfectly normal for me. Besides, it gives more chances to roleplaying, so why are you complaining? However, I would like to say that I really enjoy your videos. that extra die on ccrits might be kind of useful to eldritch smiting hexblades you know bedcause hexblades curse is a 10% crit instead of 5. low damage rolls are still gonna suck but the hexblade still gets a better chance to crit and they have accesss to weapons with 2 dice (2d6 greatswords) that with pact of the blade are automatically +1 weapons.

Spoilers for Storm King's Thunder My party and I just finished surviving the Orc raid on Nightstone, and they were pretty terrifying to fight. Granted, it was 20 orcs(including an Eye of Gruumsh and Warchief) vs. 6 PCs. We managed to edge out a victory, but my Goliath plays the Tank role in our party and I spent a solid 5 rounds at 1HP.

We were all only level 2, so didn't even have 2nd level spells, let alone Fireball. Earlier in the campaign I had reinforced a bridge with boulders to create a funnel into the keep of the town, so to get in they'd have to scale the sharply sloped cliff or cross the bridge, and we were able to hold the bridge during the encounter.

For some mathematical reference on how minuscule the HOrc's crit bonus is a d12 (The biggest damage die) does 6.5 average damage. You crit 5% of the time E.G. 5% of the time you're doing an extra 6.5 damage. This averages to an additional 0.325 damage per attack. It feels really powerful when you get it, but makes little to no difference overall.

Orcs will actually breed with anything strong. Trolls, ogres, and any strong warrior they see worthy of bearing orc children. Half orcs are classically half human but they can be half dwarf too.
