I think it's how before the large tentacles come up, it's playing battle music, like they still might have a chance even after losing people. Then the dead silence. The guttural roar. And the existential dread of the music coming down to smash all hope, the terrified yells of sailors knowing all is lost fleeting under the organs wail. These movies have some seriously dark undertones beneath the wackiness.

I love how sadistic the Kraken is shown to be. It’s able to instantly pull a ship under (as shown in the early scene with the fisherman) but instead of killing quickly it takes its time snatching and tossing men like dolls, snapping masts to leave the ship dead in the water, all before the grand crescendo breaks the ship in half.

So many reasons I love this scene 1) the crew is kind and nice there not pirates or pillagers there just simple merchant men but we see them die a horrible death just to prove to us the audience how evil and cruel Davy Jones is 2) the kraken is treated as a real beast it’s not just myth the moment they realize what it is they bring out harpoons spears and axes weapons meant to try and kill it in this world the kraken is legend not myth Real but almost never seen 3) this is the most realistic depiction of the Kraken it’s a giant octopus not some thing with crab legs and giant tentacles (clash of the Titans *cough cough*) it’s almost the perfect creature to sink a ship as shown it’s tentacles snatch people of the deck it wraps itself around masts and snaps them like twigs and then finally coils around the ship itself and breaks it like an egg...... 4)the score is AMAZING many people forget Hans was in these films before the Nolan Batman’s and other films and this score doesn’t disappoint its menacing and horrifying as you feel the utter despair of the crew and see the kraken Just perfect 👌

Best example of inaccurate naming for a music score and the time it was used, is "Bootstrap's bootstraps." That score plays during the Dauntless battle in Curse of The Black Pearl, but the title implies that it's supposed to be the score that was played during Ragetti telling the story of Bootstrap Bill to Jacks new crew.

It’s been said already, but the switch to the calamitous blare of Davy Jone’s chorus on the pipe organs as those tentacles smash the ship in half send chills down my spine every time I watch this scene. You know it’s over. There’s no more hope for the ship or her crew. The Kraken will take them all. Beautiful cinematography coupled with stellar music scoring really etches this epic, terrifying scene in my mind.

I am addicted to this scene. Jones speech, the ship stopped by a strong force, the crew realizing their end is inevitable, the large tentacles snapping the ship like a Kit Kat bar and the perfect Hans Zimmer score accompanying it. It's a 10/10. Almost 2 decades has past since this movie came out and it's still so bloody good. A rarity in Disney's 2000s films.
