I finally get the RTX 3080 Ti to run in the ridiculous MSI Pre-built. Well it kinda runs.

Can you consider them "hot swappable" if you've got to spend half an hour getting to them? 🤣

I bought one of the original Aegis models back in the day because it claimed that it's easy to upgrade. Good God I quickly found out that that couldn't be further from the case.

Im pretty sure Silverstone is one of the few, if not only, reputable companies that makes power supplies in weird form factors lol.

Instead of just going "this MSI computer is complete propriatary garbage, avoid", we get Dawid spending hours of pain and suffering to enertain us with a complete demonstration of just how awful it is. Thanks!)

I think you basically just had a sunk cost fallacy with this computer. You just built a completely different system inside of an MSI shell, and in the process defeated the purpose of the original video which was to see how the performance would be would be with a graphics card upgrade. I'm still skeptical if that old board is actually dead. Could that adapter cable just not work properly?

What an adventure! You traversed the PC of Death, conquered the Proprietary Valley of Hell and eventually got your noble Stead (the 3080Ti) to perform on the Battlefield... at 75%... which is better than the fainting it was doing at the mere sight of the Battlefield when it was Gung-Ho at 100%

Solid retrofit though! Makes sense to just remove anything extraneous you won't use and have a modern system inside. Switch to like a 3060 Ti and you'll basically have a 1080p beast machine.

Maybe it always crashes in the menu because it's allowed to render as many fps as possible. That kind of behavior was killing dozens of 3080s and 3090s in that Open World Amazon game I can't remember. You can try limiting the fps using RTSS to eg. 120 fps and without the power limit set to 26 %. Then if that works and you are actually in the game, you could disable the fps limiter using a hotkey (Afterburner settings) and see the whole system slowly melt into a single blob of magic goo.

Every time I watch a Dawid Breaks Tech video followed by a Dawid Mends Tech video, I always think I am watching a mad scientist rather than a PC builder.
