China makes some great cheap phones. Redmi and Umidigi, for example. The latter of which has very solid, non-meme, 70-120$ phones with 10-30W chargers included. Just gotta keep jumping companies to save a bunch of money. First Huawei made great value phones, became huge, became overpriced like Samsung and Apple. Then it was Oneplus, then Xiomi.

@@Rspsand07 my mom recently bought one of those cheaps Umidigi phones, and compared to my sister's same price realme phone, it seems pretty garbage. It's insanely laggy and seems in quality more like the phone shown in this video. The realme one (C11 i think it is) seems pretty decent overall.
@thefiestaguy8831 Жыл бұрын
The phone was made in china for about £10. The screen protector and charging cable combined probably cost them no more than 50 pence to make. Apple don't give you a screen protector or charging plug because they don't have to - their brand is big enough that they know people will buy their products without a plug or earphones, and won't refuse to buy them simply because there's no plug or earphones. If a brand new mobile phone company came to the market however, and sold a brand new phone but sold it without a charger or earphones they might find their uptake isn't that great.

Yeah, it’s immensely frustrating when parents (or anyone, really) refuse to listen to you because they just _must_ be right. Even more frustrating when it’s a field you know a lot about and you know for sure they don’t understand at all. Older parents and tech. It’s like trying to convince a flat earther they don’t understand science. Head, meet brick wall.
@TennysonPesco Жыл бұрын
@@archgirlThat's pretty much all due to the misconception that older people are wiser, more intelligent, etc. than younger people just because of age. Since older people have more "life experience", they must be correct about everything by default and there's no way they can be proven wrong by a younger person Obviously there are quite a few cases where age does translate to experience etc, but when it comes to the age old scenario of 'mum who has no clue about technology', then chances are a younger person (e.g. their son/daughter) will know a fair amount more than her. Unfortunately, a lot of older people let the "I'm older = I know more than you" thing go to their heads way too much
@archgirl Жыл бұрын
@@TennysonPesco Yes, very true. Although, I will say, it’s not _always_ on account of age (although that’s certainly one of, if not _the,_ biggest excuses used). Not exactly the same kind of situation, but I recently had a 30 year old woman insist that Linux isn’t suitable, in any meaning of the word, for any task whatsoever. Her reasoning? Because it doesn’t support the rootkit anti-cheat implemented by Riot in the game Valorant. Because Valorant won’t work on Linux, Linux is completely incapable of doing anything at all, and nobody on Earth should use it for any reason whatsoever, no matter the use case. I was astonished, and highly amused. But that tends to be the kinds of things you frequently hear from those who don’t use it. I take no issue with those who don’t want to use Linux (for whatever reason), but it’s frustrating when you frequently hear that those no reason anybody should use it at all. Even more so because you frequently hear that kind of sentiment from those who have never even tried to use it, and from those who don’t even know enough about their own machine to tell you why Windows would be better.
@drunkenhobo8020 Жыл бұрын
@@TennysonPesco Not only that - a common theme in many of these scams is greed. Either by thinking they're getting an exceptional deal and pulling one over the seller (Hah, an iPhone 15 for $100? I'm robbing them blind!) or the sort of phone scammers that Kitboga et al. cover (Hah, this guy is putting more in my account? I'm robbing him blind!) I'm really surprised he didn't think of that/go that route. That's also what most other people on KZbin do when "reviewing" weird/sketchy chinese android devices. There are a couple hardware info apps that let you see the real specs without needing a PC and there are also ways to find hidden apps and services. I saw a video where someone even found a hidden app that lets you change the displayed specs (as most of these devices use more or less identical hardware and the different variants, such as storage capacity, are set through an app at the factory). It's also interesting to see if there's anything obviously sketchy running on such a device, like maybe a nondescript system app with many/all permissions that could potentially be spyware.

Damn, an MT6582, that brings back memories. My second phone had a MT6592, which was a 8 cores SoC and already massively better than the MT6582 (and there was also a MT6572, which was a dual-core). Even for the time, it wasn't great, but it was a decent mid-ish range phone, "the time" being around early 2014. On top of being a 10 years old SoC, I remember the Android 5.0 firmware being incredibly buggy on those, with unstable drivers and a lot of apps not working properly, Mediatek was just providing it as a base for the OEM, but no one ever modified it. It's crazy that they're still selling scam phone with the exact same hardware, you would think even the crappy SoC would've improved, but no.

The only problem was that I couldn't find a working TWRP/CWM recovery for them, so I had to be careful with what I modified on them to avoid a soft brick. Still ended up running Xposed Framework with GravityBox and other cool modules. Both had pretty much stock Android 4.4 KitKat, so they were ok to use despite the low-end specs. With those fake phones, sometimes you can use ADB to find hidden apps they use to set stats and stuff, then run them and edit it to even more ridiculous numbers and stuff. Like you can be "proud owner" of new Android 16 phone before Google even thought of making one. :-D Because they often leave those behind, they just aren't listed in Android. Also fingerprint sensor usually is just fake and anything triggering touch screen in sensor area will unlock it, fully counting on use never trying anything but registered finger. Same goes for other stuff too. Also you likely would have to use ADB or something to sideload apps, making sure they are compatible with actual Android version there. Since it can be that old.

The item's title alleged "HDMI to USB" but the description, which I did not read very carefully was actually describing "USB to HDMI", and that was the only option (not that it had two options which included "HDMI to USB"). I raised a complaint, and the seller refused to refund. AE sided with me and I got a full refund, and kept that "USB to HDMI". Since then, I read the descriptions carefully in order not to get scammed.
