I totally agree...their poor dorsal collapse and their skin was getting sun damage...but I will say I'm sure this womans and the man who had previously DID work hard, did care about the animals, and did really try to give the best life....I dont agree with everything they're saying but I think we need to look above...these people are ta the bottom doing the dirty work probly not making much money from it...the ones at the tops making millions are to blame...they cud have expanded the pools and provided better lives...but they chose to pocket the money or add rides...I see what the trainers feel..but they have to take in account that the people way above the CEOS etc...should have stepped it up because those pools look pitiful for a killer whale.

Recently watched Black Fish and am struggling to even listen to this ignorant woman trying to rationalise the reasoning behind keeping these creatures in captivity. I don't care how much good you think you are doing with them or how much you want to try to convince others that your job is in their best interest, it isn't, period. These creatures do not belong in captivity, they are in captivity due to human greed and ignorance. You will never be able to justify removing a calf from its screaming mother no matter how hard you try and if you think you can then you are disgraceful, immoral, and lacking any common sense or emotion. To justify this behaviour by commenting that the animals are merely living a different life in captivity as opposed to a worse life is possibly one of the most uneducated comments I have ever heard. Just ask a human who has been incarcerated if they appreciate being locked up for 23 hours a day, they have food, shelter, and books to read to enrich their minds so they should be grateful and blissfully happy. This woman and anybody else who condones these magnificent creatures, or any other animal for that matter being treated in this way should be embarrassed and ashamed. They are not caring people with a goal to protect and love these animals, they are destroying them. We as human beings do not have the innate right to take and control everything we see. Just leave them alone, in the wild, where despite what this uneducated, opinionated woman is trying to convince others, is where they belong, and where they want to be.

Thats great nonsense: "Just ask a human who has been incarcerated if they appreciate being locked up for 23 hours a day" This creatures are not made in the image of God - only humans are, so killer wales as all other animals are not feel ashamed and dont care if we are looking "all times" after them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Animals have freedom of action, man only has free will, and therefore only man is ashamed of his (bad) actions (sins) and when he always is observed... Animals dont have "such problems"....

I agree . The beginning of this video I was open to hear what she had to say. However , she sounds so ignorant. She says , killer whales ate the top of the food chain in the ocean and that they are extremely intelligent. Then later she is standing up for sea world and saying that killer whales and other animals in captivity live happy lives and well taken for. No wild animal should be kept in captivity unless it’s at a wild Sanctuary where the animals are unable to be out in the wild for medical reasons. Tilly was stolen from his family in the wild and then Auctioned off for profit. It’s disgusting to watch her go on and on about defending such a horrendous company. She obviously doesn’t want to admit what she did and what she continues to support is wrong. Someone should threw her in jail for 3/4 of her life and see how she likes it .

Many people have described Dawn as their "best friend". It takes a special kind of person to be that for others. By all accounts she was a source of joy in so many people's lives. Although I don't believe these animals should be in captivity, the trainers don't have a say in that. They are there to take care of the animals as best as they can and I'm at least happy to hear that the trainers are so passionate about giving them the best lives possible despite the circumstances. I hope Dawn's passion and work ethic has inspired other trainers to do the best they can for the remaining whales.

First of all I loved hearing her speak about Dawn. Their friendship seemed really special and it's such an honour for Dawn's friend to speak about her so highly and poetically but we all know that NO GOOD comes from killer whales being contained at Sea World. How many people have to lose their life to prove this?! Also, you can't compare owning a cat or a dog to whales being held captive. That's a nonsensical argument that shouldn't have even been brought up. The Blackfish documentary is one of my favourites and I've watched it many times. It does a fantastic job at explaining why the isolation and frustration of these whales being contained and forcefully separated from their mother's and children causes them to experience intense grief. She admitted herself just how intelligent and social they are. At the end of the day if these majestic animals were so happy and content in captivity then people like Dawn would still be alive. The whale's life expectancy would also match the ones living in their natural habitat and they wouldn't self harm or suffer from depression. Watch the documentary as it explains everything so eloquently. It even has previous trainers from Sea World explain how they're duped and brainwashed to believe that they're actually helping and the whales are there for their own good. It's all lies and I hope this lady realises this one day and no more humans are mutilated and killed. I mean, surely she doesnt want more trainers to die?? Tilikum alone killed three in his lifetime. After all, not one single human death has ever been caused by a whale living in the ocean. That's the only proof we need that the environment is not good for them. It destroys them in the end. Also; The whales don't breed naturally in these facilities which she said means they're happy. They're frequently artificially inseminated which is how come Tilikum was able to father hundreds of children before he died and this was their concern because he always showed threatening tendencies and they worried his predatory responses could be genetically passed on.

Some of the whales actually kill themselves by ramming their head in to the walls repeatedly, until they die. They shouldn't be kept in the pools for that fact alone. There's tons of other issues that happened to the whales that are kept like that, and she didn't mention it at all. There's some other ex-trainers that started speaking out against SeaWorld, you should watch some of their interviews. Some accounts said that Tilly didn't want to give Dawn's body up before he was so attached to her and he had no toys to play with. It's a morbid thought, but he saw her as a toy at that point. It's horrible.

They lived in a small pool as opposed to an enormous ocean. Whales stay with their mothers their whole lives; you took him when he was just two. Noone, SeaWorld, you or Dawn thought about the happiness of the Whales. Separating them from their family, their home and leaving them day after day to work and make SeaWorld look good, and those trainers, but not caring what would make these beautiful creatures happy. I think that these trainers are truly wonderful ppl and no doubt these amazing creatures have changed their lives, but I do agree that these types of places are better if they are shut down once the last generation of whales pass away, they should stop breeding the whales (which often is done through artificial insemination). She’s right when she says the animals can’t be released into the wild, they won’t survive but they are put in a situation where they are living partial lives. Yea they get fed and there are no predators or dangers to them physically, but they deff are not living their lives to the fullest. They are built to survive in the wild, they’re not in need of rescue or anything, they’re not endangered they thrive in their natural habitat. They can’t be compared to pets that require far less space and share the same living environments as we do. Dogs and cats etc. can thrive in our environment, whales can’t thrive in our environment. That being said I also don’t agree with exotic pets of any kind. But either way I enjoyed this interview, I think you are both caring ppl who care for humans and animals alike, but I think there’s always room to demand a better life for these creatures we love so much :) RIP Dawn she sounds like a wonderful human being

Lyndsey nailed it. This was a devastating event. It destroyed so many lives, human and whale. The way the world is going, Seaworld and zoos will be the only place to have exotic or rare animals for people to be able to see them in person. No, not as big as the ocean, but the majority of the whales were born at Seaworld. The trainers love these animals and devote everything to care and perform with them. Accidents can happen anywhere at anytime. It wasn’t Dawn’s fault. It wasn’t Tilly’s fault. It wasn’t Seaworld’s fault. It was a tragic, heartbreaking accident. Dawn loved those whales like they were her own kids. She would be heartbroken to see the trainers get pulled away from the whales. How confused they must have been when their human friends stopped playing with them in the pool. The rise in whale deaths increased shortly after that.

People like you, enablers, are to blame. What the fuck is a slave going to do with the “love and dedication” of their torturer?

A very interesting (and likeable) woman. I can tell she cares about the orcas. But she is getting very defensive when talking about orcas in captivity and I believe this is because she knows this is cruel and selfish. Nobody gains anything of value from seeing an orca in a pool - I’ve never seen an orca in person and don’t need to, I can watch them online or on TV in 4K in their natural environment.

What happened to Dawn was an accident that no one would like to happen. Dawn's dry, swaying ponytail caught the attention of Tilikum, the orca. The hair looks like a toy or seaweed kelp. Orcas don't intend to eat humans but play with their trainers. Orca in captivity has nothing to do with planning ahead for an accident like this. Orcas are innocent creatures that would like to socialize with humans. Orca was given by God resiliency to adapt to different environments, whether in the ocean or swimming pools like in SeaWorld and any weather. God showed us in the "Believe" show that the orca is not only a kind of animal but has new talents that can work with trainers to entertain humans and give everyone an awesome and decent show. Orcas are not rebellious like humans. They have animal instincts but can be shaped by the movement pattern, where the trainer is professional to direct or work with them.

the comparison to domesticated animals like pets is so foolish and obviously inaccurate it’s almost hard to believe they would even try making it. a poodle cannot hunt and obtain food in the wild like a wolf would, because of centuries of domestication and artificial breeding practices. orcas are wild animals that only began to be captured 60 years ago. training does not equal domestication. how on earth can these people possibly be so thick?
@randyrauch
@randyrauch 2 жыл бұрын
Oh really. You’re telling me dogs, cats and horses that are held in captivity around the world are domesticated? So that’s why it’s OK to keep them? Wild horses are captured every single day and then taken to someone’s home and held in a stable. So they can ride on top of them, have them do work on the farm and even compete with them in competitions. So they can profit off them. The point of this conversation is to understand that many millions of animals are held against their will and should be out in the wild. So if you’re going to get mad about orcas in captivity, you have to get the same anger towards horses in captivity. That’s the point.
@GHeinz
@GHeinz 2 жыл бұрын
@@randyrauch yes...dogs and cats and horses are domesticated. that is totally uncontroversial. whether or not wild horses are captured and made to work is orthogonal to this conversation. maybe i would come to the same conclusion about those horses as orcas, but that is not the topic here. the truth is there are many serious issues to be raised about many animals that humans keep, but it varies from animal to animal and is beyond the scope of this conversation. the comparison in the interview was between orcas and house pets. i’m not “mad” about captive orcas, i am saying it’s very dishonest to compare domesticated dogs to orcas because the history of their relationship to humans is wildly different, and many varieties of domesticated dogs have been bred in such a way that they are unsuitable for life in the wild, which is not the case with orcas. it’s very simple.

I don't even know where to begin lol . Omg I wish I would have kept going instead of clicking on this video. 1st I wanna say , the death of that woman is sad. Incredibly sad. She had a husband a life , it's sad...and im sorry this lady lost her best friend. 1st , people become friends and build relationships with people they work with all the time , SeaWorld doesn't hold the patent on that. I don't know why this woman is trying so hard to glamorize and make the pitch that SeaWorld is a wonderful, magical place. I don't know if she's been paid to do that? I don't know but it's very far from it. I also don't know why we've heard no stories of the horrific way they obtained these Orcas...the suicides , Orcas beating their own heads into the concrete. The sunburns , the grinding of teeth to the point that teeth had to be extracted. Very few Orcas were born in captivity. The majority were stolen from their parents , their pods , as baby's, the one's that survived the journey, most didn't. Nobody talks about the grief those parents feel their whole lives. She does talk about how Incredibly smart they are but not how they grieve for their young just like people. These top predators as she pointed out many times , are forced to allow people to lay on them like couches. To do tricks for food , how humiliating and degrading that must feel. Yes they do feel those emotions..especially when they're forced to fetch a ball like a dog. This video this host and this woman are disgusting. I don't care how hard they try , they cannot justify what SeaWorld has done for decades to 1 of God's most beautiful, intelligent creatures. They were not meant to cohabitate with humans they are not humans! You both should be ashamed for trying to glorify this prison called SeaWorld.

@@Living_EDventures hey Ed? Do you know the difference between a domesticated and wild animal? I could let my 12 year old terrier with degenerative disc disease, narrowing of the spine , loose to either live or die but what would that profit? Who would benefit from that , her? Do you think she could survive out there on her own? Is that the same as releasing a Orca back into the ocean?? Dogs were not created to live on their own in the wild , even with family they were not created to live in the wild , that makes them feral, they were created to cohabitate with man. Btw , I did not raise her I rescued her. Her owner , who could not care for her put her up for adoption. Because of her condition noone would adopt her she was going to be euthanized. Her living conditions were despicable. She slept for years on a cold cement floor and was so matted and flea infested she was better off dead. I didn't steal her from her natural habitat, force her to make money for me , in return for food. I am providing a better life for her , for the few short years she has left. Infact she's laying in my bed right now on top of $182 Bamboo sheets and a $90 pillow made by Purple , to give her more comfort , give her a better more restful sleep because she was forced to go without medical treatment to fix the degeneration in her spine. So what I would like to know Mr Man , is what other stupid comment is going to come out of your mouth???? Interesting interview, to hear about what goes on behind the scenes. Sadly some very bizarre comments like enriching their lives, comparing them to dogs & they only breed when they feel safe! If they have enriched lives why do they have worn down teeth from biting at the walls/gates. Why do they attack each other in the pools. They are artificially inseminated not breeding, alot of calves die at young ages. They are bored, frustrated, anxious animals that eventually snap under the pressure of unnatural living conditions. They should all be placed in sea sanctuaries asap.

The irony here is that shelters are at capacity with unwanted pets. Domestic and exotic. Everyone runs out to get a "cool" pet only to abandon it at a struggling non-profit. I can't tell you how many people throw fish in bowls/tanks, lock their dog in a crate 40 hours a week, or clip a bird's wings and keep it in a tiny cage yet simultaneously tell us zoos/aquariums are bad. Look at what covid did to the dog population alone. It's disgusting. Dogs are not accessories but are certainly being treated as such. SeaWorld's animals have world-class care 365 days a year. This woman Lyndsey for sure has love for animals, I can see that. However, it is still cruel to take those animals out of the wild ( I understood that has stopped because they only breed in captivity now, am I right?), at least in the past they did and that was utterly wrong to start with. Also I find that if the amount of trainers, will diminish, this kind of unhumane practice will at one point cease to exist.At least I sincerely hope so, because however you look at it, however you make it look beautiful, as if it is all ok, in the first place it is a pleasure for the humans.And they use theses magnificent mammals as little dogs in a circus. That to me, is still a cruel practice, although those mammals get used to it. I bet that the first mammals that were captured very much in the beginning of this industrie have suffered tremendously while they were taken out of their native environment! Yes I must admit it looks amazing and it must be amazing to be part of that or even to train them, very special, however the fact remains that they don't belong in a confined swimming pool where they have become like little fish in a bowl. So I sincerely hope this industrie will sizzle out at one point in the near future.

Well I agree with much of what you say. But as long as you’re consistent with all animals. This means people need to release their horses that they keep in stables and show off in horse shows around the world. Not to mention horse racing. And if we’re going to yell at Seaworld, then people need to let their cats and dogs go free. Because they are not meant to be kept in homes and apartments around the world. Not to mention to profit off breeding and dog and cat shows. And anyone keeping a bird in a cage also needs to stop doing that. I don’t have a problem with a few marine parks around the world as long As it’s well regulated and limited. I believe we have learned a lot from sea world in caring and taking care of such magnificent creatures. 😀

@@randyrauch Spot on! Most of these people pick and choose. Most of them probably have pets they got as babies but complain about something they don't have.

There was one mistake made that day...And I assure you, the whale didn't walk up to Dawn ( My she rest in peace.) Dawn got in to close to the water With Tilikum, and the rest is history.

SeaWorld are to blame! You put a traumatized 12,000 pound apex predator in a fucking tiny pool performing tricks for dumb humans! Tillikum was stolen from the wild at 2 years old! Y'all deluded

this must be the most annoying interviewer/ host of all times. Always interrupting and talking over her. Besides, they both have horrible opinions, the animals belong in the sea, everything else, esp these tanks, is torture for them.

@@albertawheat6832 I agree that these parks are motivated by greed. However, my point is that people overlook the trauma caused because “they learned so much” at these parks. People that support these parks are not motivated by greed but their curiosity which defines their morality. In some ways, just as much fault as the marine parks for enabling.
