Dawn Garland is a transpersonal integrative psychotherapist and non-duality teacher.
In 2012 she had an awakening after many years of severe depression. She then had a number of years 'blissed out' before an energetic movement, often called Kundalini, led her to study various therapeutic modalities.
Dawn now holds talks on non-duality whilst assisting others to integrate their awakening experiences.
We spoke about topics such as:
- The initial awakening
- Integrating an awakening into daily life
- Non-locality
- The value of psychology once there has been an experience of non-duality
- Trauma
- Kundalini experiences
- The link between mind and body
- Free will
- Eckhart Tolle haha!

I agree with her evaluations on listening to the body and emotional patterns. I’ve done an incredible amount of work w plant medicine to heal myself and she’s articulating what I’ve experienced. It’s kind of disorienting bc your usual pov and patterns are gone and it’s just odd. But life goes on and one has to navigate with a whole new pov. It’s fascinating. I’ve defaulted to humor. I find a humorous perspective on just about everything.

Thank you so much Dawn! A lot of this can come across as really dry, as you mentioned, and that was definitely not the case here 💙

When shit hits the fan, then this( nonduality) doesn’t help, but if there is ( really) no one, then it’s crystal clear that nothing can be done about what’s happening. It’s not possible to integrate this message with any method. This Lady and Richard Sylvester they both seem like sincere people, but I don’t think that the sense of self disappeared in neither of them, they just understand this message very clearly, in my opinion( especially Richard) and can explain it almost perfect. I saw a KZbin video with Richard where he was talking about Nisargadata Maharaj and saying that when he said I am that, that he must have been talking about this same message, which was clear giveaway for me, that there is still sense of self in him. Newer-less they both just trying to make living with this. . No harm in that ✌️

But I mean...it’s not that there’s //nothing that can be done// either. Like, if you insist on making objective philosophical statements, then I mean, ok, but otherwise there’s nothing contradictory in the apparent continuation of life. It’s just that the FELT ONTOLOGY behind it has been sucked out. This is by no means passive. Who would be passive? Action or inaction can still happen. My point is, there really is no such thing as “percentage of a person left”-the message itself makes that very clear. It’s just really, really simple, and does not denote the presence or absence of any behavioral patterns, etc. Psychology still exists/not exists, as does everything, just for no one real.

@spinozasdreams people are already functioning in society without any control before the me sense fall away, the control is illusory same like the ME sense, so after it falls away there is no problem with functioning in the society, you can continue being whatever you been before.

@@birdwatching_u_back action or inaction can happen that’s true, but you are not doing it, it’s like suggesting someone to make the wind blow the other direction, it can happen, but it will be clear to you that you didn’t do it, when the me sense disappeares, it’s clear that you are not doing anything, as well as that nobody is doing anything, and suggesting someone that they can do something is like suggesting that they can make the wind blow in certain direction

@@ccr7712 Idk this is still taking a position on things-a REAL position-that they are “passive.” They’re just...what they are. If someone is lit on fire, you can still make the suggestion that they put themselves out rather than “wait for putting themselves out to happen.” When the speakers use passive language like that it really doesn’t mean anything, and it’s easy to cling to it as if it does. They’re just trying to talk in ways that our everyday language doesn’t permit, but remember, language is nondual as well. Advita English can be helpful but it is still concepts and stories trying to illuminate something else.

Well...how to say it nicely... Some people simply shouldn't talk about awakening. 😉 I also had an awakening experience like she described in 1997. What then followed were nearly 20 years of trying to return to this state, while identifying as "pure consciousness". Then suddenly it became clear, that consciousness/awareness is just another form of I and it doesn't exist. It's a totally made up thing. This veil (of being....whatever) is a breeding ground for the most absurd concepts - like therapy, spirituality, transcendence etc. In a way, as long as there is the sense of being (...), there will automatically be concepts that build on top of it. I don't want to play Nondualty police, but it's obvious that Dawn has a very dualistic sense of talking and it's not the words - the energy speaks for itself. Thanks Alex for inviting different characters to your podcast - I really love your style of asking questions and being "authentic" also with your story of being a seeker. Very appreciated!
