She is one of my favorite artists. I was lucky enough to see her in recital back in 2006. Simply one of the best recitals I've ever seen.

Dawn Upshaw has been one of my favorites. I first met her backstage in 1989 after doing Susanna in "Figaro" while 6 months pregnant with her now 17 year old daughter. I seen and talked with her several times since and my admiration for her as a singer, performer, and person is ever strong. Opera Buff 1935

Dawn Upshaw has been one of my favorite singers since 1989. I met her backstage at a performance of Mozart's "Figaro". She sang and acted Susannah while 6 months pregnant with her now 17 year old daughter. I've seen her and talked with her several times since then and my admiration for her as a singer, performer and person has only become greater over the years. Opera Fan 1935

Indeed. 6 minutes into the 3rd movement, and one realizes that music really is a form of transportation. Breathtakingly beautiful.

I just had to watch this cli again after watching Sherrill Milnes give a master class to 6 young college students this past weekend.I think I would have been more relaxed singing under Dawn , although these students seem farther along in their singing development than most of the youngsters that Mr. Milnes had to work with for a short time. It certainly must be a great moment for young music students to sing under great singers like my Dawn, Mr. Milnes and others, like Carol Vaness at IU.

Dawn Upshaw is so friggin' intelligent, I love her! Funny that all the young singers presented material that Dawn herself is known for singing. I thought the soprano was fabulous -- lovely chiaroscuro sound. And the "unmemorized song" is actually a huge, 10 minute work. So no, that's not tacky.

I was referring to the 2nd student in this clip that Dawn Upshaw was working with, but thanks for trying to answer my question.

These students sang art songs, which Dawn herself has sung. (The Mirabel Song is on her first (of 3 ) Grammy award CD. The youngsters that sang for Mr. Milnes all chose opera arias beyond what they should be singing (except for maybe two of the kids). I wondered if they wouldn't have been better served singing art songs themselves for Mr. Milnes. Maybe he could have helped some of them more. I don't really know. But it's quite an exercise and great for the young singers, regardless.

It's at Yale. how weird. I initiatlly recognized the chairs, and then at 1:08, recognized two students with whom I went to school...
