This is the Part 1. of our episode 30, you can watch part. 2 at this link: • Day 1 on the PAN-AMERI... .
We made it to #prudhoebay. It is the end of our road up #north, the conclusion of 6 weeks through #Canada and #Alaska, and it marks the end of our journey in northern latitudes. From now on, we only go #south. Right, because it is the end of a road but the beginning of another one. The legendary #panamerican.
Around 45000 km across the #Americas! What an exciting thought. We are at day 1 one of this new journey and it is intense. Snow, mud, and broken brake pads, but also, amazing landscape, crazy fall colours and sun, everything is in this episode.
If you want to be sure you do not miss the rest of the journey, subscribe to the channel. See you next week, and until then, take care!

Hi Nick and Mathilde, My daughter and I have watched a lot of Eva's videos, so we learned about your trip through your connection with her. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us and for allowing us to enjoy the amazing scenery through you. Your beautiful French accent on your excellent English, Mathilde, makes it all the more enjoyable. My wife and I lived in France for several years (Savoie and Paris), so hearing you speak makes us "homesick."😊If you come through Dallas and give me a "heads-up," I would be honored to treat you to some BBQ or Tex-Mex or a Texas-sized steak. Bon voyage and Godspeed!

Such a good idea to watch eva s video with your daughter! She is such an inspiration for hound women. And thank you for coming to check us here on this channel and kind and motivating words. Mathilde comes from Haute Savoie we were so happy to read about your time around over there. Aaaargh we are still balancing passing by Texas. Plans are in the making but our visa is rather short so that might not be the easiest. We will see.

Ahhh!! The metal grinding sound!!! Yes, your brake pads were 100% worn out. Normally it is recommended to change the brake pads on all 4 wheels at the same time, every 30-35,000 miles (48-55,000 km). I would highly suggest at the next maintenance interval to replace the brake rotors as well! Definitely go with drilled/slotted rotors to help with keeping the brakes cool under heavy off road use and give longer life.

Its a good skill/mindset to just do something, even a simple job like brake pads. You have tools, you have YT university, you can do anything needed - helps for the future issues which maybe more remote too. You'll be doing your own services next, and some point on the world tour changing something broken or worn on a drivetrain and not even thinking you need a mechanic to help.
@NextMeridianExpedition
@NextMeridianExpedition Жыл бұрын
Exactly, it is good to put our hands into it already. Gets us slowly onboard with the fixing without much stress. We have quite a few spare parts that should get us going on some of the most “common” issues we can fix ourselves. For the rest we will need to be creative and seek help wherever. But overall: great learning experience!

Awesome! thanks. Your doing a great job. Small recommendation: Pace Yourselves. Take the time to soak up the places you go, you probably will never return. If you try to go too far too fast you might get burned out and then things can become miserable or atleast not memorable because it is too much of a chore. Maybe consider staying put for a week or two here or there.

Quick safety tips. 1. When you remove a wheel. Don't sit on it. Put it under the car, either under the side step or the axel. It could save your life if the jack collapses. This also makes it possible to jack the car back up coz the hub will not fall all the way to the ground. 2. don't trust random rocks with the weight of the vehicle. Some will crumble and cause the jack to slide. 3. Use wheel chokes in addition to the hand brake when working under the car. Other than that, great job. You may have seen this somewhere -> "Land Rover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948"

Super important advice from Rassy - but much better yet is the advice from Allen B, especially because u will be working on yr vehicle who knows where on who knows what kind of road surface - and some flat wood to put under the jack and jackstand in case the ground is soft and squooshy.

I followed y'all from Eva's channel. Great job on the brakes. I'm actually commenting to caution you about using precautions when jacking for repairs. You might want to invest in a jackstand or two. They aren't expensive and wouldn't take up much room. I lost a friend due to a car falling on him. Thanks for the videos. 😁

brake pads are easy to change but anytime you have metal to metal look at the rotor that the brake is squeezing and if its been worn down with grooves all in it then you need to take to a shop and get it turned or shall i say cut back to smooth or it ware out new brake pads fast some people ware them out so much they end up buying new rotors that can get a little expensive

I'm glad I found your Denali visit. That view at 8:03 is spectacular. I'm curious how you were able to drive as far as you did in Denali, since when I was there, you could only drive to the gate at Savage River campground at Mile 17 (?) on the park road. The rest of the trip to Wonder Lake needed to be on a retired school bus run by the park, as an attempt to keep the traffic down to a minimum, and thus keep the animals' natural behavior.

Loving you guys. Like many others, found you through watching Eva’s channel, and am now a subscriber. One suggestion, at times your music is a lot louder than the dialogue, so you might need to reduce the music volume a little.

Just a little thing that I noticed when you were fixing the brakes, your legs were almost inside underneath the vehicle, pls alway be mindful that when your Jack suddenly get out of its balance or what not , you don’t want your legs being caught when the car collapses. So that also works when fixing a flat tire. Just a concern fan of your channel. God bless

Yeah many have written about that and thanks for watching out! We will be taking many more precautions now!
@sjgoodie6593

And also the tires should be positioned under the rocker panel, for that reason, when the jack suddenly malfunctions, it sort of catches the chasis in that sense the vehicle won’t fall flat on the ground

Thanks for recording border crossing, most don’t and it is an important part of traveling from one nation to another. Canada and the USA always ask weirdly personal questions, kind of what you get in less developed nations compared to Europe/GB/Scandinavia.

I just started watching your videos in the past week and am really enjoying them! We live on the Niagara Escarpment near Toronto, Ontario, and often host campers through Boondockers Welcome. We also hosted two European overlander families this past summer. What is the best forum to meet overlanders who might need a place to camp on their way through Canada? Looking forward to more videos!

You guys should be getting more views.Your drone shots are first class. A thumb title of "Drone Over Alaska" would work! If you are not getting the views, chances are it is the thumb that is not pulling them in. Make every word count. They have to be universal words and high value words. Also an amazed look of one or both of you with the drone and a scene. (Simple) Look at Mr. Beast thumbs. He has it figured out.

Hi guys!! Matilde I have a specific question for you. In regard with joining Eva in your way to the end of Alaska (forgot the name of the last town) you did not take part on that end steps towards the end of it and the dip in the customary water. Instead, you staied back took care of the dog. Then, in your way back, Eva stayed back and you guys went ahead. Question? Why did you not went to the end of it. Why only your boyfriend and Eva did it. Was there anything going on between the two of them, and you got upset about it? Also, why the other car friend did not go with you guys all the way, when the initial plan was to do it? What made him part ways from your group? Was there something between him and Eva, and she did not respond to him, bcs she had other plans, if you know what I mean? And about your trip and the scenery, you show us.. I truly love it how YOU do it! With only so many words you could say a lot, accompanied by the beutiful pictures/ videos, YOU take!! Happy motoring, Guys!!! 🤗🤗

Hahaha. Hi! None of the above. There was only two spots left in the shuttle. And I already had swam in the Arctic Ocean in Norway and I had to edit an entire video. I had no problem leaving my spot. Also was so happy to get time with Vilk. As for Tom, he hesitated for a long time but for visa questions decided to stay in Canada so we could have more time in mainland USA. Voila voila.

I cringed when you were putting your head under the mud guard as you were working on the brakes. Not sure which jack you have but never, never trust a jack. Put the tire you took off under the car just as a precaution. If the jack fails and the car comes down at least the tire will stop it as a last resort.
