Day 9: What is your motivation to craft? Whether it's spinning, knitting, crochet, weaving, or something else, you like to do your craft (or else you wouldn't do it)! I'll tell you what motivates me in this video.
I don't spend enough time on myself so this challenge will focus on me spinning for myself (mostly) and sharing some personal projects--and personal growth with y'all.

I started knitting mainly to keep my hands busy while I quit smoking. In the process I learned that I loved the learning and problem solving. This year I have branched out to include spinning and weaving. When I finish something I feal like a little kid, "Look Ma. See what I can do." There is something in that pride, wounder & joy that is good for the mind and soul.

My crafts are my sanity. They are a huge creative outlet. I have sewn with a needle and thread since I was 4 years old. My mother taught me how to crochet when I was 6. My signifiigant other taught me how to knit when our son was 6 months old. Paper, glue ,paint , crayons a pile of junk? Gimme! I am always disecting and rebuilding things in my head the things I see.

I think what I love most about our crafts is the sense of accomplishment & pride I get once a project is done. Especially if I’m wearing it & someone admires or compliments it. I like being able to say, “Thanks! I made that.” Plus the self confidence from having skills that not everyone can do. I also got an added health bonus! My Dr was on the verge of putting me on some kind of blood pressure medication bc it was on the extremely high end of “normal”, but when I took up spinning my blood pressure steadily went down! On my last check up, last week, my BP was in the same range it was 30 years ago! (Back when I was 18, single, no kids, no bills, no pressure, no stress!)

On weaving, I find I really need to beat the weft down in the shed to get the fill I want on the fabric that is being created. The sustainability part is what I like besides customization options for making my own clothes. Also, the making process teaches me patience, in a different form to have the end result I was hoping to achieve.

Hi Jennifer, I hope you're OK and that you've had a good Weekend. ❣ This is a great question . I've been able to Knit for a good many years. I suffered a serious back injury which forced me into having to stop working over 20 years ago and so through the years I've done many different Crafts . I started Weaving on Lap Looms and then in 2020 I came across a channel on KZbin weaving Wallhangings. Well then I got a larger Loom and that was when I thought about Spinning my own yarn so Christmas 2020 my Presents were 2 Drop Spindle Kits. But I have quite a lot of yarn from Knitting and then in October I saw someone making a Crochet Scrap Blanket and Baskets. So now upto date I've made 2 bedsize Scrap Blankets and 3 Scrap Baskets, about a dozen pairs of Scratch Mitts, Beanies and Cot Blanket. Those are for our Grandson last year. He's just had his First Birthday. Well you did ask!!!!🤣 Happy Spinning, Weaving and TDF Take care and stay safe Fibre Friend Lots of love Jen xxxx 💖 ❤🧡💕❣🫂
