Resting before hitting the Smokies is a good call. I'm sorry you had to eat all the ice cream. I hate it when that happens. 😂

Too damn funny! You are the 1st hiker I've seen say "embracing the suck" while smiling, as they're hiking thru the AT rainfall! That is the right attitude for making it to Maine.

The flower at 3:42 is a trillium known as a Wake Robin. So pretty. The one at 3:49 is a yello trillium, even prettier! Thanks for the flowers.

You are doing great Molly! Eating breakfast before hiking made a big difference for me…it took me about 500 miles to realize that, so you are a much quicker study😂. Getting 10-12 miles in first thing when you’re fresh, hydrated and fed makes for a much more pleasant and efficient hiking day. Good luck in the Smokies!!!

Thanks for the peaceful cloudy trail view. Always appreciated and beautiful moment in time. Cheers to your gratefulness and smile despite the misery of the weather. Kudos to the treat of ice cream. Great morale booster. I hope all is well with your husband. Wishing you safe passage, good fortune and mighty fine hiking. Happy Trails!

I feel so bad for you, having to eat that ice cream just to get the jar. 😊 You can always mail food to yourself further on up the trail. Another great video!

Love that ice cream! If you keep feeling tired and down you may have allergies, you're from the west, the eastern trees are all pollinating now. Especially maple, ash, yellow pine, river birch and oaks are all at a very high level. 🌳🌲

Listen to your body. Do not be afraid to take a zero when you need it. You cannot hike fast of efficient if you're tired or injured. Although I was doing photography during my first thru hike and was able to hike fast to make up for it, I had 79 zero days my first hike and 64 zeros on my second hike. I started both thru hikes in March and finished both in September. This is a whole new lifestyle for your body, listen when it is talking to you! You are doing great! I don't really think that you will have a problem finishing, you got this! Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun! geek AT '90 & '02, PCT '08

Cool plant with the big green leaves and a yellow flower 🌼. There is a dry anti-chafing cream meant for cyclists shorts. It’s called chamois cream. Most outfitters carry it in the cycling department. It will help you prevent a worsening condition. Hope you feel better and get all well soon!!

Rainy, cool days like these are why I was thinking that your Oregon background would be a key asset. Not that it's fun to be in the rain, either in Oregon or North Carolina, but you have had some experience in handling it. I hope the Smokies (which you will be through by now) were dry for you. Always dicey.
