I have been watching thru-hiker videos for several years now. I couldn't tell you why I follow some hikers and not others. But something about you -- your genuineness and maybe your intensity -- made me believe in you from day one. I watch thru-hiker videos because they inspire me. They show me the pure power of the human spirit. I believe that the Trail (and the trials that go with it) bring out the best in people. But you, lady, you are in the hall of fame of powerful, honest, inspiring thru-hikers. It's been so much fun to see you persevere and succeed, despite everything. I am so, so impressed, Mosey.

I’ve watched you from the start but never commented. Showing your vulnerability is tough. Showing us that just shows how strong you really are. You are one of my all time favorite you tubers to follow.

What an incredible young lady. I know your family must be very proud of you. Thanks for giving me the motivation to step out on the trail next year. I am sure great things are coming your way. Stay positive!!!

You are absolutely amazing Mosey, not only for completing the hike and defying everyone's expectations, but also for having the courage to honestly share with us all your highs and lows along the way. That was a big reason I chose to follow your hike on KZbin. The KZbin hikers that only share the positive aspects of hiking do not interest me, because I know they are not being fully honest about their experience.

I was always taught that if there were never failures in your life, would you truely find success?? Finding something valuable to succeed at is soul touching. You dear, have found success. Thank you for sharing your journey, your thoughts, emotions, and most importantly, your beautiful smile. With all due love and respect you have earned from Texas.😊

I personally don’t see parts of my life as failures, I see them as lessons. But another way I look at situations is that maybe I’m not on the right path, and maybe the reason things aren’t working out for me, lead to something better, which I wouldn’t have found if things did work out for me, and I have found that to be the case. We must stay grounded and go with the flow, ride it out and not focus on what didn’t happen. I’m so happy for you for taking on such a big adventure when everything and not everyone maybe not supporting you. What you’re doing is a huge deal.

My favorite post of all of yours and I’ve followed you every day. Even with your doubts about yourself you never gave up. When I watched you summit Katahdin I was in tears but I was still worried about you in the Whites. Then you blew me away in the Whites blazing thru all by yourself. You have been provided with trail angels throughout SOBO and it has been a delight to watch you come close to the end of your AT adventure. After hearing you say on your next day’s post that you will cry every day after this, I hope you will be able to have immense joy over what you have accomplished and let it define your future as you have accomplished something that so few have. I have never heard that song from The Waitress, thank you for sharing it, I found it to be contemplative and healing.

I commented at the very beginning of your journey that you remind me of my younger self. I am twice as old as you and I will tell you life has gone well for me, though there have been many mountains to climb. I have the deepest admiration for you and all you have done. I will miss you when your journey is complete but will so happy for you on your accomplishment!

You didn't find the girl you used to be... you've always been her, you just needed to have confidence in yourself again. But thank you for being vulnerable and real, you never know who or how many people you may help by being honest, talking about the struggles and showing yourself come out the other side. Good for you and happy to see you closing in on your goal.

Hi, I started watching your videos after other through hikers I've been following this year (Jenny, then Captain & Sunshine) finished their through hikes. I was confused by your route in these latest videos, read the comments and still didnt have any clue. I scrolled back a few months and now it made sense, you've made the announcement to flip somewhere in Day 100 (late June). Good call! And now I can follow your videos without the confusion... :)

Hike on Mosey.

Oh, Mosey! You had me laughing at the start when you talked about 12.6 miles being a relatively short day. Go back and watch a video from the beginning of your hike and see what you would have thought then. Yesterday, I hiked out 10.89 miles in about 5:20 hiking time (I paused the app during breaks) where I set up camp. I don't have trail legs and I was tired. This morning I got up and hiked another 5.81 miles back to home. It was shorter coming home because I took a much more direct route home and this day hiker feels it some, but now that I've had about an hour with the pack off, I could go again and get 10-12 miles in for the day if I was motivated. Now that I've sat down, I've also stiffened up. Mosey, you are a wonderful young lady, and we all have episodes of depression. That doesn't mean we are clinically depressed. I like to say that I have lived multiple lifetimes, in reality, it has only been phases of this lifetime. You've been through a phase, and now the trail has been a phase, although a much shorter phase than some in people's lives, but I think it has been a time of discovery for you and I think you know you've been discovering or rediscovering the Marissa you needed to find. Obviously, there's still a fighter inside you and often it is the people who are tenacious who succeed in life. For instance, many business owners failed at multiple businesses before they hit on one that gives them the successes they were seeking. Failure is a lot like victimhood, we can all play the victim if we choose to because, in some way and at some point life has treated virtually all of us badly. Some choose to lay and wallow in their victim status, others pick themselves up, dust themselves off and continue on. Maybe in the grand scheme of things, this hike was you picking yourself up and dusting yourself off. Now, carry on, Mosey!

This video 🎉made 🎉my 🎉 day week month so far? You were in many of my favorite places! The observation deck is where I always take visitors. I also hugged a tree during your New Jersey week by the State Park office and you stayed at my most magical close by place: I repaired the shelter log book there about a year ago… I have a writing throne I write on there (no one else knows it is a writing throne but I don’t mind)…. What a delight times infinity! I also love that song… it is on my “Emotional Roller Coaster” playlist. Thank you for reminding me. Now you willl be in Stokes State Forest where I have been a part of storytelling and poetry events. The naturalists there are amazing. 😊 You have blessed many with your videos and presence on the planet, Mosey. Grandma Gatewood would be so proud to know you.

Twenties are hard. It definitely gets easier. I think many more people than you realize have false starts in their twenties, though it can seem like everyone around you has a career and family (or whatever they're after) all sorted out. You'll be a wiser, stronger person for all the different things you've tried. You've certainly shown your ability to persevere on this hike. Keep at it. This is where the good part starts.

So close to the end, yes I know you're done already, and the body is saying no? Well you've got a strong mind now (and probably always did) and a strong body AND a strong will. All 3 of these will take you a long way if you want it to. The 20s are hard for numerous reasons, mostly because we're supposed to know what we're doing and I think for a lot of us that doesn't happen until we're 28 - 35, so all that angst and self doubt in our early 20s is pretty wearing and demoralizing. Of course it doesn't help when people say things like you should have done this or that by now, etc. You've got this Marissa and no one can take that away from you except yourself. I hope you'll keep us updated about your future as lots of us have become big fans

Rissa, the Kingdom is within, honey, and you are just fine- Life can be a fragile balance and especially for women. Women’s healthcare alone is complicated and so easily, an imbalance in our hormones, vitamins and minerals can turn the world into an emotional crisis. You are clearly a reliable, conscientious, thoughtful person- any employer would be fortunate to have you! Turn every negative thought, feeling or word away and replace it with a positive memory. Chin up and feet forward- The Camino de Santiago from St Jean Pied de Port across the Pyrenees Mtns and down into Spain and all the way to Santiago and if you’re up for it, on to the “end of the earth”, I hope is next for you! Watch the movie: The Way. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Way to go Mosey! So happy you found yourself and rediscovered your self-confidence. John Calvin opens up his Institutes of the Christian Religion saying that all wisdom can be summed up in our knowledge of God and the knowledge of ourselves. The skills required to know ourselves (our true self created in the image of God) are similar to the skills necessary to know God. 😊

Catching up on your videos. Don’t know if you’ll see this. I expect most people experience a little depression in their lifetime. If it’s reoccurring or feels like an unusually long time, please find a therapist or psychologist. It’s not a weakness and you’re not alone. Best of luck on whatever you doing bit that you’ve finished.

You and @badbathikes should find some other musically-inclined AT thru-hikers and do an AT-inspired musical. Surely someone has written an AT-inspired musical by now.
