Ski Resort is Wolf Laurel, which is now known as Wolf Ridge - I love Big Bald - Max Patch is nice but has road access so there are always lots of folks - Big Bald does not and is a 5 mile (plus or minus) climb on the AT so all that's up there are hikers and that's nice - congrats on another good day - onward and northward

I used to live at that ski resort you saw from the top of Big Bald! Really miss that place. Hiked up the mountain several times and even did a 4 mile hike from Big Bald to Street Gap when I was pregnant!

Bear hang rock sack chucking - try turning backwards to your aim and throwing it over your head. First few will miss and come straight back at you, but when the branches are high, it's the ticket. (Learned from a traditional Scottish sport involving heaving things, and they throw "backwards.")

Wolf Laurel is the ski development... Meeting viewed of and impinging on the AT. Easy to get lost divergences in there when snow. Big Bald a real fav .. Right??

For the rope hang try standing just underneath and with your back to the limb that your targeting and throw that way. You're sort of throwing backwards and straight up and you'll get a better arc. Look up "strongman sandbag toss" and you'll see what I mean. Share the technique with others and you'll be a trail hero with stories of your conquests and trail genius being told for generations. Songs will be sung. Epic poems, written. Scotland has William Wallace. France has to Joan of Arc. We'll have Nahamsha.

Hey Taylor! I hate I was late to catch up with you at Sam's Gap before you reached Big Bald but glad you had a pretty day to hike this section. You are knocking out those miles. What is the thru-hiker phrase "10 by 12" (10 miles by 12 noon) for a successful day? Soon you will hit Damascus and Mount Rogers area. My favorite area to hike. Enjoy the wild ponies!

Boiling water on a picnic table is a dangerous situation. Most tables are not level and wobble. When a fellow hiker sits down and the table shakes the boiling hot water off the stove, you or some else could get badly burned. Just sayin!
