You won the exchange. That's great, it gave you a substantial advantage, so if you play solid and consolidate, you should be fine and win the game Now, what is the first rule of solid play? King's safety!!! How to improve the safety of your king? Make sure to not leave it alone with no piece to defend. You broke that rule when you played g3, weakening the pawn structure in front of your already undefended king, instead of playing Bf1. Bf1 would have prevent all of black's threats. You refuted Bf1 by saying you wanted to keep the bishop on its diagonal, but it was only aiming at a solid pawn chain so I'm not sure what was so good about that diagonal. This move was a killer. You should earn this lesson from this game : When you are up, make sure your king remains as safe as possible. And to improve your its safety, keep pieces around to defend the king. And don't weaken its pawn structure!

Exactly what I was going to say -- never push pawns in front of your king if you can defend in another way.

Trying to stay calm and composed during the game, although it's clear that you're under a lot of stress. I played for 10 minutes and the results weren't as I'd hoped. Stress, panic, and running out of time resulted in many mistakes and missed opportunities. The solution turned out to be increasing the game time to 15 minutes. I immediately leveled up. Maybe you should consider that too? Greetings from Poland, Good luck!

It might help, but the mistakes in this game weren't clock-related. He's not seeing a lot of things that he normally would.

Patrick, an observation FWIW. Seems to me that in your recent games, you often lapse into playing "chess solitaire," i.e., thinking only about your plan and ignoring your opponent's. You're thinking, "If I do this, then on my next move I can do this" instead of finding your opponent's best response. I agree with other people's comments that you have good tactical awareness -- but you need to apply that awareness to your opponent's moves as well as your own! I think that one of the reasons you get into time trouble is that you take time to calculate 4, 5, or 6 plies into a variation, without checking whether that variation is feasible. I think it would be better to focus on the first 3 plies of a candidate variation before spending more calculation time on that variation. I'll bet that you can eliminate some candidate moves (i.e., some potential blunders) right away, leaving more time to calculate the blunder-free variations that pass your 3-ply test. You're higher rated than I am, so I offer these comments with humility. Would love to hear others' thoughts on this.

A quick follow-up comment. As an example of what I'm talking about, at 4:20, when you considered the candidate move Qf3, if you had asked, "what's my opponent's best response?," you certainly would have seen ...Qxg5. Having seen that, your tactical spidey sense might well have shown you Nxf7 as the way to set up Qf3.

Try not to get too fixated on your rating and the points for individual games. Your rating hasn't moved much in the past year, but you're clearly better than you were a year ago. Keep up the positive attitude!

Don't push pawns in front of your king unless there is no other option. Defending with the bishop was the better way. You were up material at that point, so all you needed to do was play defensively, trade down pieces, and you'd have an easy endgame.

Openings are good. Your tactical awareness is good, but positional understanding needs work. Once you were up the exchange your focus should prioritise King safety not pawn pinching. Bishop back to f1 NEVER push the g pawn if your opponent's Bishop is lined up against it. Just invites lobster pincer mate. Bring pieces around your King. Hold off on pushing pawns in front of King for as long as possible, when defending. If King being chased, move towards your pieces. Gives you better chance of surviving.

Yes, bishop back look no further. When you find the best move be decisive. g6 loses of course, not right away but you did not even see Qh1+ Why? Because you did not look along the complete diagonal but stopped at g2, whereas his actual move wins a rook. Now you are missing half moves, a fool's paradise thinking of what you will do to him on a move that will never happen. How do you leverage a bishop pair down a rook? No, you are done. Resign. Or play on and see how someone will finish you off. A learning experience, I guess. Analysis. Yes. then you take the rook. Out of sequence. Of course you did not even see your knight was under attack. Scan the board. You feel disgusted, and that is good because, you should feel that way, but get over it, It's ego. You're are beginner and you are going to have reverses. It's part of what makes a good chess player being able to get over losing. You need to adopt the attitude of a junk-yard dog. instead of a Pollyanna and that everything is going to be fine.

It's been a year, you have a very good level, but reaching 2000 like this might seem very optimistic. Maybe you could take some coaching if you have the time and money ? The results would be immediate I'm certain. Good luck with the rest of your journey anyways.
