Day 5 of our 7-Day Challenge is a 10 Minute Strength Workout for Seniors and Beginners, the second strength workout this week to build muscle. We added this workout to help you get into the habit of doing at least two muscle-building workouts a week as recommended by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
While this workout can be done without weights, we encourage you to use two weights that are challenging for you, such as water bottles, cans, or dumbbells.
This beginner strength training video consists of 5 exercises each done twice for 30 seconds with 20 seconds of active rest.
Here are the exercises:
✳️ Chair standup (Sit to stand) or Squat
✳️ One leg lift and hold with arm up
✳️ One weight twist
✳️ Row and tricep kickback
✳️ Heel touch with single are overhead shoulder press

Hello friends , I have neglected the Strength Workouts for too long . Because of each of you , I completed this workout after 2 workouts tonight & have seen I'm capable of strengthening my body . Hello ladies. Thank you so much for your advice! I see I made a stupid typo. Of course you are a great team and not time🙈. The exercises were quite easy for me. I didn’t really have problems. I will repeat them, but not immediately. I know I need to challenge myself just a bit in order to not getting bored. I saved the Anniversary Challenge and the New Years challenge. I’ll start with the one that seems the easiest to me. I do like it when I can have series like that. Otherwise I think it is more difficult to avoid going from one level to another. In a series one follows the other, so no thinking necessary. Looking forward to tomorrow! Take care and hug Mochi for me. I have two cats myself, so I do adore our furry feline friends. Bye now!

I like short strength training workouts. They are doable and beneficial. I have been able to slowly increase the amount of weight for some of the exercises. One of the things I really appreciate about your workouts is how accessible they are, no matter one's age or current fitness level. Thank you!

Another routine I never tried. It was a great followup to your 30 day Beginner exercises, day 5 which I did intermediate style. This is a nice short workout that has a lot of oomph! Mom did great. The balance portion was a challenge because it was dynamic. Again, as always, thanks for a nicely thought out strength routine, April...Anastasia

Thanks my wife and I are now doing morning sessions in New Zealand with you and your mum. We use old plastic milk bottles for weights. Starting with a little water we weigh them on the kitchen scales and overtime add more water. You provide the motivation 😊

My most difficulty is going from sit to stand (I am 71). So I have been combining day 5 with day 4. My balance is not good at this point and so I have been sitting as your Mom. So thankful for her example. You guys are fun to watch and with only 10 minutes I know just when I feel I want to quit I tell myself it’s only 10 minutes. God bless you both. Such an encouragement to us seniors!

Thank you! That's the way to do it! Using a chair is not only smart but safe too! Mom uses a chair often! As a young 71yo it's terrific that you are exercising and combining the workouts makes use of different muscles! Balance is all about practice! Keep practicing and you will see your balance improve! Love these videos! With healing COPD emphysema & a healing broken femur very close to my hip, these exercises are perfect! I'm almost done with doing these twice. Do you suggest doing these exercises more or changing to one of your other videos? If i should change to another video, which one? Grateful i found you!

If you need more practice with these moves or want to get better with them, do them again or make it more challenging by increasing tempo or adding weights. i did the ex today, i enjoyed it, but i have to tell you that i was walking without a cane or walker and a cup of coffee in my rt hand and the life alert button around my neck and almost fell, but thanks to the ex im doing here i didnt fall. thanks

Here is a link to our blog that includes info on how to choose the right weight (with a video link as well): bit.ly/36XbTDs Here's a simple approach: Starting out with no weight or very light weights (water bottles, cans, etc.) is great to get familiar with moves -- as an exercise feels easy after 8-10 reps, add more weight or repetitions.❤️💪
