I love your videos lol the comedy level is brilliant as is the learning!!! You break it down in a non dictative way and it's great to watch her learn as you talk everything through. Well done and thank you guys for your time, info and help in making these vids for us. "you know what this is, yeah, battery acid" lol well done!

Not knowing her history...the desensitizing is very necessary. It will teach you a lot about how she was handled. Cruel owners like the whip and some of her reactions, at first, might be to the whip. A good video, well done and educational on a necessary starting point in any horses education and its importance is often overlooked.

Why thank you, I agree, share me with your friends. (LOL). Honestly there are a lot of good horseman out there doing the same method I am. I follow the DUH method for the most part, I didn't come up with it. I just practice it. The reason we posted the videos is to make people aware of Second Chance Equine and the work these folks do. We hope to get 5000 members across the country to join our ranks so we can keep doing good work on behalf of the horse. Thank you for your kind words.

You are dealing with fear. Find a starting point just like I did with the spray bottle and keep the pressure on him until he relaxes. He may drag you all over the place but keep the pressure (light as possible) on him. He horse will only learn on the RELEASE of pressure. It's simple, not Necessarily easy. It will work.

@BarrelsPolesandJack Horses remember the past but live in the present, this allows us to erase mistakes and start over with them. Nice feature huh? Just find a starting point and be as soft as possible but remember your horse will learn from the RELEASE of pressure. Don't quit too soon. Good luck.

@Kruizinby Why thank you. FYI it was "horse dissolving battery acid", I had to look everywhere to buy it. And by the way thank you for clearing up that nagging question about chickens. You're pretty comedic yourself.

Sorry I took so long to reply. My rope halter is thinner and stiffer than your head collar. It also has 4 knots on the nose piece that applies pressure when needed. They are not too expensive and are sometimes called mustang halters. The horse tends not to lean on a thin rope halter because its uncomfortable. On a thicker banded halter it can lean on it all day long.

@jlgoody1 The time line depends on the specific horse. The key will be when the horse relaxes. Signs of relaxation are standing still, taking a deep breath, cocking a hind foot, blinking an eye, licking the lips and lowering the head. Make sure of your timing, the horse learns from the RELEASE. Young horses have a smaller attention span, older horses can go all day. Just be sure the horse gets it before you quit. Otherwise your teaching it the wrong thing. 3 issues sounds fine.

@animallover2233 The horse is most likely striking at the bag because it feels uncomfortable with it, so just ignore it and keep walking away. Do not take the pressure of the bag away until the horse is cool with it. IF HE IS STRIKING AT YOU then you need to go back to basics and demand respect. I would be backing that horse up and moving its feet like there was no tomorrow. Be careful.

Thanks for the videos. This little mare is so amazing. What breed is she? She looks appy in the face but has pinto markings. I love the video of you riding her out in the trail course.

About the fly spray, my gelding doesn't tense up at all. He explodes. Now, he was a rescue and has many issues we are working on. And slowly building up to more difficult (for him) things. But water (any liquid really) is something he just will not tolerate. Before being within 10 feet of a mud puddle would send him rearing and bolting. Now, he will walk over or beside them. He will get close to a creek but not cross. But water hose, spray, things like that; he is terrified of. Any suggestions?

Hi there, I'm Silver. I recently adopted a 6year old pregnant Quarter horse mare who was in a really bad situation just like Fancy and I'm deaf. I would love it if someone could give me a transcript of the videos where I can read it and understand what he's saying because youtube close captions only translate on how his voice sounds not on really what he is saying at all.

Well mister and I overcame the dreaded plastic bag with very little fight. Moved on to spray "just water" and he used to hate it but did not even flinch. I have posted some pics on facebook (Jennifer Stevens) if you want to look at them you can friend request me and I will accept. I have no idea how to put pics on here. (In my pic on Facebook my hair is really blonde and curly and my sister with really dark hair is in the pic w/me).

Apparently not. Once you start this exercise you must finish it otherwise you teach the horse he can remove the pressure of the dreaded plastic bag by bolting. Face the fear, find the trust.

Isn't it fair for the horse to start thinking - this is getting gratuitous? Or, Why continuous at me, starting to think you are teasing me.
